    Here's a story I wanted to share about the U.S. Army Draft: My father and I took my Vietnam War veteran grandfather to Washington D.C. several years ago for the first time for him to see the Vietnam War Memorial Wall. He got drafted in 1967 and he got injured by shrapnel from a land mine (in addition to getting shot), so he got sent home and received a Purple Heart. However, 6 of his buddies didn't make it back home, so before the trip he made a list of all of their names and where they were located on the wall. As he found each on the wall, he got very emotional knowing that he managed to come home (though injured), get married, have 3 sons, and live another 50 years, but 6 of his friends didn't.

    Peoplo love to talk about North Korea's obssession with war, but deny this reality in the south.

      It's called self defense. They need a strong military being surrounded around North Korea, China, and an untrustworthy Japan.

    That was a very good video. Thank you. The goodbye scene looks exactly the same when the son or daughter goes into the military.

    This is timely. I've just finished pre-reading a book (Until Tomorrow, Mr. Marsworth) before my 12 year old will be reading it. While not regarding the South Korean draft, it involves the Vietnam war and conscientious objectors/dodging the draft, then in the U.S.

    That alternative service really feels weird and definitely seems like a punishment. 3 years, in prison, really? There has to be other things they could do in the military that doesn't involve using weapons like logistics, cooking, being a mechanic, etc.

      They gotta pass physical training then get to that point i believe, they must know how to handle weapons and the basic of it, also psychological prepared and work as a team wherever shit hit the fan. You can't go on the easy way in military, at least that's how mandatory service in my country works. Even cooks, mechanics etc...also fight if they have to.

    This may sound harsh, but if S. Korean women aren't having children, maybe they should be drafted as well. I truly don't mean for this to be sexist, and I don't believe that they should have children if they are not ready. However, it sounds like a logical argument. Of course, have in place exemptions for motherhood, but with the fast decline in population and ultimately soldiers, it could be a feasible next step. Militaries around the world have females conscripted, with many volunteers in other countries.

    Update: Kiyoon went on to get face tattoos and become South Korea's biggest booty bandit in the prison!

    To my South Korean bros, just do you military time as soon as you turn 18 years old. Get it over with, so you can go on with your lives. Dodging the draft or delaying your entry into the military is only going to make your situation worse for you.

      That's not fair since women don't have to do military time. All South Korean men should dodge the draft, that way it's fair

    • @roythousand13
      @roythousand13 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @danielplayz4421 , I know that women don't have to serve, which I think is bullcrap. If the State of Israel can draft their women into the military, why can't South Korea?

      @@roythousand13 that’s why I think draft dodging is the best option

    • @roythousand13

      @danielplayz4421 ,draft dodging is a serious offense among South Koreans. Men who dodge the draft are shamed beyond imagination, and their opportunities are taken away from them. South Korean women wouldn't be in a relationship with a draft dodger, and employers wouldn't hire a draft dodger, either.
