It's funny how most Indians don't value Paul John (which costs only around 3300 Indian rupees, equivalent to $40). They'd rather buy Glenfiddich 12 (it is expensive here in India as it costs $85). I tried them both, Paul John offers more money for value.
I love seeing pictures of the stills! Whenever I'm trying a new malt, I always look up photos of the stills from that distillery. That would be a great marketing feature, to have still shape on the bottle and point out what the shape does to flavor!
Amazing. Wonderful, very helpful review. Generally avoided Indian whiskeys though I knew there were many adventurous distillers in and around Bangalore. This brand I must try. Thank you once again for great review.
I remember seeing a PaulJohn offering at Costco but decided it was too much money at the time (I still have a lot of Scotch to try). But after this review I'd be a lot more inclined to try it. Thank you.
Nice video Bill, Paul John have some great expressions as you probably know I've reviewed them all, the Zodiac one you referred to is known as the Kanya and is a limited edition. See if you can get some other Paul John's!
Got this last month and after getting some air in the bottle and letting it settle down for a while it has interesting and unique flavors. Fun to try malt whisky from places other than Scotland picked up a Kavlan distillery select and a Nikka Coffey Malt as well, the Nikka is outstanding. Cheers
I enjoy watching your reviews ... I have tried Paul John Brilliance as well as Select Peated ... both are awesome, completely different flavor profiles and cannot be compared .. but I loved Select Peated more ! These Whiskys are more expensive & hard to find in India than the US :)
Yes, I would recommend Amrut Fusion! BTW - Except for Amrut, Paul John & Rampur - most of the Indian Whiskies are a blend of molasses based neutral spirits (which is Rum) + some % of scotch, malt & grain whiskies ... some cheaper ones may also add flavor & color to make it taste like Whisky :) ... so if you want to be adventurous, then you can try "Blenders Pride Reserve", "McDowells Signature" & "Rockford Reserve" ... I tried couple of these while in India & they are OK to Good :) Again, these cannot be compared with Amrut or Paul John but are still best of the 'local lot' .... BTW - I had picked up Paul John Brilliance from DC Costco a cpl weeks back and I got it only for $36 + taxes ... Paul John Classic Select was $ 65 + taxes but I didn't buy that and it sold out fast!
The Select Peated is great which has a harmonious balance of peat and rounded characters and so is the Classic Select Cask. Both offering rich textures and jam packed with flavour. However I find the Classic my favourite as its just so creamy for a Indian whisky. If you like peat then try the Paul John Bold!
You can try Solan No. 1 or Solan Black or Solan Gold if that's available there in your country. As far as I know it is available in Canada. It is one of the few non molasses whiskies from India. Cheers :)
The Peat now used in Paul John is actually sourced in India and not Scotland, it specifically comes from the regions of Rajasthan, Jammu, Tamil Nadu & Assam...just to take note
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary Yeah probably when you reviewed the whiskey like 3-4 yrs back, India wouldn't have had that much Peat, so it makes sense that they would have imported Peat from Scotland
Whisky Dic , you asked for suggestions on other Indian Whiskys to sample. Somebody's already mentioned Amrut Fusion Single Malt, which has won of lot acclaim worldwide. Apart from that, see if you can get hold of Rampur Single Malt produced by Radico Khaitan Distillery; just amazing!
Interesting. I never knew there was such a thing as Indian Whiskey! By the way, I saw something interesting at one of my accounts today... I know you have already done a video on Crown Royal, but there is a "limited release" Crown Royal Mesquite. Possible to do a review on that?
Great review as always! How about tee's with the wording/logo on the back? I personally cant stand tee's with wording on the front, maybe I am getting old..lol ;}
The Whiskey Dic I'm only an alcoholic when I wanna be lol. But no I was just taking a break from the whiskey\whisky to give my taste buds a break. I probably won't buy the bottle you have there but the glenfiddic 12 year will make me just as happy lol
I received this bottle as a gift from a viewer. I just did a quick search, it seems that Total Wine in Shrewsbury has it for about $65. Still a decent price for it.
I think the only 2 whiskey's worthy enough to be tried are Paul John and Amrut. We got Rampur recently and that's pretty horrible. Apart from that, 99% of whiskey made in India are molasses (sugarcane) based. Tends more towards rum actually. Which is why we aren't allowed to brand and sell them as Whiskey outside of India.
It depends where you are, I guess. The maddening thing is one store will have one expression of a single malt. Another store will have another expression, and yet another store will have a dusty bottle of another expression of malt from the same distillery... I have been pretty lucky in finding different expressions of Amrut just by hunting around. If I saw the Brilliance I would grab it on the spot because the search among forty or so stores in the area so far has given me no brilliance! Then a store that I haven't been to for a while (I typically shop at one or two a week and want to bring my purchases under control and down to a bottle a week) will get a few bottles in, and it sells out before I get there again. Wasn't it you who had a merry chase looking for J&B not that long ago?
Angel share is high in India. Apparently our angels are just like out politicians, they take bigger cut
After watching this review, I bought a bottle. It is a very pleasant dram. This is my first taste of an Indian whisky and will not be my last. Thanks.
Love to get messages like this!

Loving the bloopers. Thanks! Sounds like I have to look for this one!
They're fun to include. I always save them for the end of my editing so I have something to look forward to.

Funny you mention that... there are a TON of bottles that base their shape off of the shape of a still. Check out Glen Moray.
Amazing. Wonderful, very helpful review. Generally avoided Indian whiskeys though I knew there were many adventurous distillers in and around Bangalore. This brand I must try. Thank you once again for great review.
Thanks. Worth $60. Will order some soon. Very modern facility in Goa.
You could try Paul John bold and edited. If you want to try other single malt there is Amruth and Rampur(new).
Amrut Peated CS. First Indian Whisky I bought and I will be very happy to own it again :-)
I remember seeing a PaulJohn offering at Costco but decided it was too much money at the time (I still have a lot of Scotch to try). But after this review I'd be a lot more inclined to try it. Thank you.
No problem! I hope you like it!
This bloke is so frickin passionate about spirits. Glad i found your channel
I'm glad you found the channel too!

Thanks for the clarity on that one. I couldn't find a lot of information on it! I'll keep an eye out for more!
Hey you should compare paul john brilliance bold and nirvana

Nikka coffee malt is awesome!
Great review Bill-Always interesting different parts of the world 🌎
The Amrut peated cask strength is good
Hi, you may consider reviewing Rampur, another 1 single malt from India
Yup! Im planning on it!
I enjoy watching your reviews ... I have tried Paul John Brilliance as well as Select Peated ... both are awesome, completely different flavor profiles and cannot be compared .. but I loved Select Peated more ! These Whiskys are more expensive & hard to find in India than the US :)
That's crazy to hear. Any other Indian whiskys that you suggest?

Nice review. Please review Rampur's range of Single malt whiskies,
Now I have to add this to The List of whiskies to be on the look out for!!
Without a doubt. This is a good one!
The Peat now used in Paul John is actually sourced in India and not Scotland, it specifically comes from the regions of Rajasthan, Jammu, Tamil Nadu & Assam...just to take note
Thanks for that! Not always easy to find that type of info so I'll look into that
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary Yeah probably when you reviewed the whiskey like 3-4 yrs back, India wouldn't have had that much Peat, so it makes sense that they would have imported Peat from Scotland
Make sure to cast your vote for what you think of this whiskey! Stock It? Buy It? Try It? Ignore it? bit.ly/2tY6UM0
Go for Rampur, since you have tried Amrut I think you are going to like Rampur as well.
I've heard that one suggested before. I'll look out for it.
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary make sure you get the Rampur select single malt only and only that.
Whisky Dic , you asked for suggestions on other Indian Whiskys to sample.

I have a contact at Crown. Let me reach out and see!
The Whiskey Dic Cool! I was very intrigued, to say the least, when I saw that label
Great review as always! How about tee's with the wording/logo on the back? I personally cant stand tee's with wording on the front, maybe I am getting old..lol ;}
I considered that but wasnt sure what to put. I'll give it some thought but I'm open to ideas
I'll keep an eye out for this one if it happens to pop up on the shelves.
It's probably there it's pretty common
I've seen Amrut, but haven't seen this one at my main liquor store. At least not recently. They're pretty accommodating with request though. Cheers!
If you get hands on paul john mars orbiter limited addition review the same and make an unboxing video
Try Amrut Fusion. I've enjoyed this one.
I knew this one would come up. I think I really need to get my hands on it.
Review "Rampur" double cask
Amrut Fusion, Amrut Amalgam
I haven't tasted any whiskey in about 2 months. This video makes wanna go out and buy a bottle lol
If you're an alcoholic, then don't fall off over this.
If you're NOT an alcoholic, I'd suggest finding a way to buy this.
The Whiskey Dic I'm only an alcoholic when I wanna be lol. But no I was just taking a break from the whiskey\whisky to give my taste buds a break. I probably won't buy the bottle you have there but the glenfiddic 12 year will make me just as happy lol
Then by all means save yourself 150 bucks
Do a full paul john series
Try Antiquity
Try and review PJ "Edited" please!
Definitely looking forward to that one
You must try RAMPUR whiskey
Love from Kerala India
What shop do you get that at? I'm in mass and dont mind driving an hour to find the place
I received this bottle as a gift from a viewer. I just did a quick search, it seems that Total Wine in Shrewsbury has it for about $65. Still a decent price for it.
I take it back, that was new jersey. Shrewsbury has it for
41.99!
Sorry to be late here, but you can get all of the Paul John Single Malts in Massachusetts at Norfolk Wine and Spirits.
Glad to hear it! I'll check it out

You need to try Amrut fusion.
This is meh compared to Amrut.
I have a bottle waiting for review :)
Amrut is a great whiskey from India.
Title should say barley. But great review!
Thank you! I fixed the typo
The Whiskey Dic Thank You! You taught me a little something.
Fantastic! Love that. The barley thing or the maturation thing?
The Whiskey Dic Both, though TBH I still don't understand what they do with all that peat they ship in.
Maybe I'll cover how that whole thing works in a future video probably a good idea. Long story short they dry the barley over smoke from the peat
"EYERASH" I can see two nationalities getting a little bent out of shape over that one. Still, a great review, thanks!
After I said "3...2...1... go" at the end, I burst into laughter again.
Review rampur asava
Sure wish I could find this expression, but so far all I got was the Edited and the Bold...
That's surprising. I would think that it would be the other way around.

That was me!
Are the lights flashing on this video or am I menopausal again?! 🙄
Sometimes I have trouble with my lighting because the wall behind me is so dark. You may he menopausal but that's likely unrelated :)
Your thumbnail says 86 proof, but the bottle is 46% ABV xD
British proof
Amrut 🥃
The whiskey dic? lol
Disappointing everyone since 2015!
Subscribers are called Dic Heads
Nonetheless, Amrut suppose to be the best and well known Indian whiskey brand of India.
Sure are!
