    I completely agree with your statement that, "Ardbeg is Peat done right." and that "Laphroig is gimmicky with how Peaty they are"... That's exactly how I feel! I really love the expression ardbeg gives.

    I recently finished my first bottle. it was also my first Islay. My initial thought was, I don't hate it.. As the bottle went slowly emptied, I developed an appreciation for it. By the end of the bottle, I was a fan. I like it quite a bit.

      Funny weird how for scotch INDEED the Islay peat smoke CREEPS UP on your taste buds..... Just poetic how you describe your coming of age with flavor on this one for I too FULLY RELATE on how it creeps up.... Just so INTERESTING AND COMPLEX it is sip, after sip, after sip........... CHEERS!!!!

      Laphroaig did a number on me when I first bought it. The peat smoke was subtle at the beginning and I was somewhat disappointed considering everyone was hailing it as a peat monster, but as the months passed the damn thing actually started tasting like a bonfire + the iodine taste finally revealed itself... Love Islay!

      @@cato451 No I just drank the lagavulin 16 and ardbef 10 as my first one and second one (I bought them at the same time) and from the first dram I just loved it. Needless to say I only buy Islay/smokey/peated whisky's. For example 1 that I have that is not from Islay is the Talisker 10. For the rest what I have now is an ardbeg 10 (I always have this one) the lagavulin 8 and the Laphroaig 10 batch 14 cask strength. Next week I go afther another ardbeg 10 and my port charlotte 10y heavely peated should arrive soon too. My bottle off the 5 wee beastie is just finished, I drank the last 3 drams today. (It's weekend)

    After completing the first bottle, I’m hooked. I have noticed that after the third drink I get the taste and smell of a dirty ashtray from my old 70s Firebird. And I haven’t smoked for over 35 years. On a suggestion by a Ralfy video, I added half a teaspoon of Ardbeg to a drama of Irish whiskey (Tullamore D.E.W.) and found it quite enjoyable . Interesting videos, keep up the good work.

    Another great video from way back! I watched this while drinking Ardbeg 10 for the first time… the nose is awesome, the palate a touch rougher and spicier than I was expecting. Kind of took my breath away at first. Dropped a cube in and am now Working on my 5th sip. I think this would taste better to me with more iodine taste in it.
    This will take some getting used to. I only picked it up because the Caol Ila which I went to the store for was 90 bucks! Hell no. I haven’t had Caol Ila, wanted to try it but that’s a bit steep. The Ardbeg 10 was just under 60 so figured what the heck. I think I will eventually like it, I’ll just have to keep at it 😎

    Well I just scored a bottle of the Ardbeg 10 and upon nosing it I do smell an asphalt freshly laid tar scent. The beginning of the video will be in my mind when I sip the Ardbeg 10 again. The taste is unique to me and is something I will have to get used to. Right now this seems like a whiskey for someone who has smoked but doesn't anymore. The majority of the taste I get is smokey ash taste. You can get the taste of your cigarette and more with the Ardbeg 10 but no ill effects.

  • @SuperKrisco
    @SuperKrisco 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is the first one I drank with the video - it was great fun! I can definitely get tar now that you mention it, and there's a mild sweet note that I can't quite name too. It's got a little bit of hotness to it, which is very pleasant in this winter weather. For me it benefits a lot from a few drops of water. Very pleased to have this on my shelf, and I can't wait to try the others. The Corryveckan is at one of the bottle shops I visit, but it's just over 10,000 yen which I think is a bit steep.

    • @Kvs-vf9nt
      @Kvs-vf9nt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SuperKrisco Ow yeah that's high end price for the ardbeg 10. Wow never saw it at more than 52 euros. And if the price is 52 euros you get a free dram in the bar where I buy it. You can choose offcourse not a 1000euro one but defenitly something like for example a lagavulin 16 or even a lagavulin 12.. I had an Octomore dram of 3cl and didn't had to pay it. I bought an ardbeg 10 for 52euros and a laphroaig 10 batch 14 cask strength (150euro) and the Laphroaig was normally 155euro priced. But he said I sell it for 150 to you.. the owner is a very chill dude and not a snob that's why I like to go there. The first time I went there I had 6 drams and didn't payed for a single one off them. Okay I bought 2 bottles off not so cheap whisky then too but yeah.. Still other shops won't do this.

One of my FAVORITE home malt blends is a nice healthy dram of Speyburn 10 @ 43% with a drizzle of Ardbeg 10 and swirl in the glass------nice to give it a good five minutes and perhaps a few drops of premium spring water swirled in too....... I get a nice caramelized barbecued smoke effect on the palate-----just wow.... Really fun trial and error to discover something special---or a not so special. Tried this Ardbeg 10 mix on the basic plain jane white label Bushmills and holy shit did it open up doors........ @@TheWhiskeyDictionary if they can wait 12 years to make that gem, I'm sure I could wait for sometime. Love from India! Also, just an added request. Please do a few reviews of Indian whiskeys. Loved the one on Paul John.

      Cheers Bill, well I tried it neat, I don't dislike it, normally I drink my whisky with ice and a splash of water. Trying new things drinking it neat. First I get smoke, salty as well. Going to give this a try with my normal ice and water

      Did you have another Islay whisky named Caol Il? also peaty and smoky, but expensive and not very popular, J.Walker use it in his blends

      I've actually had it a few times. I'm a big fan. I had their 18 year just last weekend at a Kentucky Derby party of all places

    I bought a bottle of Ardbeg 10 when I was first getting into single malts. Needless to say it was very interesting. I don't think I was ready for it when I got it so it sat on top of my refrigerator for like 2 months and finally I said screw it I'm gonna drink it and by the time I got to the bottom of the bottle I was enjoying it. But I haven't gotten another Ardbeg sense. Islay whisky just isn't my cup of tea lol

    • @TheWhiskeyDictionary
      @TheWhiskeyDictionary  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Louie Jones totally reasonable! Islay isn't for everyone. There are few that I've had that is call "casual sippers"

      +Louie Jones Islay is like the black coffee of whisky. You've just gotta get used to it, but it takes commitment!

    They opened in 1997. Became whiskey of the year in 1998. How can a 10 year old scotch be 1 year old?

      +Steve Walther They continued to age the whisky in the warehouse despite the distillery being closed down.
