The pointcloud is made using Reality Capture, but heads up there is a new version of Meshroom available which will also make you a nice pointcloud and it's free and open source: alicevision.or...

Can anyone tell me why my vertex colors don’t appear after converting to cubes? I’ve checked the box for colors and a previewing in rendered and material preview but they are all white

Quick tip to safe others from the frustration I had:
The "Render"-option in the addon does not work in any blender version above 2.9
If you want to export images or animations from the visualiser be sure to use a blender 2.8x

Hello, I have just started learning Blender and I am using Blender 4.1. I am trying to render from a point cloud, but no matter what format I use (I even tried the files from your video) , I cannot see any colors. When I first downloaded it, the point cloud visualizer was not available, so I found a file on GitHub and added it to my Blender. I think I am experiencing a similar issue with the colors. Can you please help me with how to fix this?
this changes everything I thought you could only do this on unity, quick question though is it possible to unlit the ply to remove the lighting?

Does this have the ability to deal with ply point cloud sequences? For example, if you capture with a volumetric video at 24 FPS with an app like Record3D, and export the data as a ply sequence, can this add on cache/cycle through the point clouds frame by frame?
It would be so incredible to see a feature that would allow us to do horizontal, vertical animations by excluding and splitting the model by an array number!

It's a fantastic tutorial and at least for me it has a superb applicability in biology. Could you please tell me how did you get the scene in your github space? That would be my final piece of the puzzle - to have the pointcloud rendered in such a way that can be visualized on any PC (running windows10) without any other software (that the default 3DViewer in Windows).
Thank you for your effort and the wonderful explanation. Everything works well except for the render and I made sure that the point cloud is visible in the active camera frame.
75 $ very very high price for import pointcloud in Blender. Educational version ArchiCAD, Revit support import point cloud, and it a free and not need to pay any more.

Every time I reder my pointcloud the render saves just like the original pointcloud without any changes I did in blender ( adjustment of color/ size). Does anyone have an idea what I do wrong?
Hey! Just downloaded the 1.9 version. Using Blender 2.8 on Mac M1 I load the point cloud in and select draw but see nothing in the viewport. Any ideas why? Thank you!

I'm importing a ply file that *only* has x,y,z data and I'm struggling to create a mesh out of it with this tool (or anything really). Any idea on what to do with limited data? Getting a lot of errors saying I dont have color data.

Hello good afternoon, great tutorial, but I have a question, when I try to load the models in ply, it seems that everything is fine, but they do not appear anywhere. You know it can be. a greeting
I have an issue with an exporting point cloud from meshroom. When i import the ply file into this add-on it says that "missing vector normal" so the point cloud has no texture (even in Cycles). Ithink i messed up with meshroom nodes in some way. Any tips how to fix this problem? i would be very grateful if u could help me to solve this problem ;(
I fixed this by bringing the PLY into cloudcompare, clicking the cloud until the yellow box shows up, then top left edit>normals>compute normals>save as .ply
I'm waiting for a photogrammetry addon for blender. I know there are free photogrammetry softwares available. But I'd like to be able to do it all in Blender.

You need to make sure you’re exporting color from whatever photogrammetry program you are using

Create a new empty, load and draw the PLY file. You can then do Filter -> Join in the Point Cloud Visualizer menu.
Hello. Very interesting tutorial. I have a request. I would like to know, if I can use this for my purpose. I have two point clouds ( .xyz format) . Can I use this Blender for comparing them and to identify the difference between them? And in addition, I have a .pcd file saved from the rosbag file of kinect 360 camera. I could not find a way to save the 3d pointcloud in ROS, I am so far able to just save the just the outline of the area in points, not the actual 3d pointcloud. Thank you. Karishma
You can import .ply and .ABC files natively, apparently there are add ons for XYZ and PCD so if you wanted to import them compare the point data.. visually? or I guess viewing the statistics that should be possible

usa a camera to take pictures, and then use the pictures to create the cloud in some software (Agisoft)
Nice work! Is it possible to change the color of a subset of points? For example, change all the points belong to bed to blue... points are of course selected manually.
I'm not sure how you'd do it using point cloud visualiser but you might be interested in cloudcompare point classification which allows you to train for detecting certain object types and colour them: www.cloudcompare.org/doc/wiki/index.php?title=CANUPO_(plugin)

There are various way point clouds can be helpful. I use it for accident reconstruciton.

Curious what process did you use to create the point cloud initially? Is it a laser scan or done using photogrammetry?
It's photogrammetry done using a smartphone camera and reality capture.
@@Nicko16 It is a really clean looking scan, nicely done, might I ask how many photos roughly were used for this?
