    Going back through recently and rewatching some of these classics. This is where Greg's TH-cam journey began and at the time I bet he had no idea where it was gonna go. Wow this is definitely one amazing aircraft for sure.

    Hey Captain Greg, when we chatted last time about the Mitsubishi, you didn't tell me you had this video in your archive. I found it by accident and man what a treat. It brought back a flood of memories which I enjoyed.

    This may very well be the best video of all time. From the music to the views. Absolutely amazing. I am envious of the folks that get to enjoy this flight.

    I love the video. I have worked around, been at airports where I watch them come and go and unfortunatly I haven't been able to fly in one. Thanks for giving this pilot a flight in his favorite small aircraft

    bman2101 and jagmotorsports-
    You both have very good comments. Let me just say that I looked at both the MU-2 and the Cheyenne 400 before purchasing the MU-2. They are both really great airplanes. The performance of the 400 is superior in many aspects as you both have mentioned in your posts. One of the main reasons I went with the MU-2 is the plane is still supported by the factory. That is very important to me and I am very happy with the decision.

    I'll be flying a MU-2 tonight from Cleveland to Cincinnati and back again. I normaly fly a 172R so this is a big deal to me. I don't know how much time I will get at the controls but Im looking forward to it.

    I agree with you. I the future I am going to try and include more shots from the cabin and also of cockpit activity. Trying to be the videographer and pilot at the same time is a challenge! Thanks for watching.

    That's cool. I read your letter in one of my Flying mags where you stated "The only thing better than owning an MU-2 is owning two." The subject was "Most economical turboprops" or something to that effect and you were disagreeing on why the MU-2 wasn't included in the lineup.

    gregmink, love your MU-2 vid. I use to go flying in my friends MU-2 I think the number was 768MA, or 764MA we took off at ful 3120' runway and I mean we used every single inch of that runway, the vsi was pegged on climb out we passed 16,000' over Corona a/p (kso) landed at Blythe, CA a/p in 28 mins block-to-block. What a friggin rocket ship! I love the MU-2. Three-in-the -green and thanks for the post.

    A Marquise or Solitaire have 406 usable with 90 in each tip tank. Fuel burn is around 100 gallons the first hour and then 90 every hour thereafter. That is at a high power setting.

    I love the way the prop rpm shoots up as the prop levers r moved 2 the full 4wd position prior 2 take off on aircraft fitted with Garretts, u notice this at 1:45 into the video. I remember this being a metroliner passenger. Who was the pilot?

    @gregmink  15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    ArmandStanger-loved your comments. Thanks for the feedback. Looks like you are a MU-2 fan. Welcome to the club! No, there is no right turning tendency on the plane. Maybe just bad piloting skills on my part.

    This is an uncontrolled airport so there is no talking to ATC. ALthough all intentions are broadcast over a common frequency. You can talk to Denver Center once airborne.

    I wondered what an mu-2 looked like. I'm not a pilot so this is all new stuff to me. Always interesting to see people comment about things they didn't like when no one was holding a gun to their head to make them watch it!

    Gary- Thanks for increasing my traffic! Come on guys, lighten up on (Gary) jagmotorsports. He has a 400LS and likes it. Nothing wrong with that. It is a great airplane. Really cool looking and fast. If it is RVSM equipped than I can tell you that I am jealous. I wish the MU-2 could get above FL280. But with no RVSM, flight above FL280 is off limits. I'm just happy a Conquest II owner didn't chime in with any comments! This debate would have really heated up!

    I just saw that you used to own/fly a Rice Rocket, You might be too young to remember him but Roy Clark of Hee Haw used to own one of those. I never got to fly one but always wanted to. Keep up the good work.

    • @gregmink

      I didn't know that. Love the MU2.

  • @jagmotorsports
    @jagmotorsports 15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    MU-2 speed 315 kts tas, Cheyenne 400LS 340 kts tas
    MU-2 max service ceiling FL310 (depending on model), Cheyenne 400LS max ceiling FL410.
    The 400LS holds many world time to climb records that no MU-2 or any other plane has been able to beat. If you say you like the MU-2 better, that's certainly your opinion. But to say it blowns the Cheyenne out of the water is just wrong based on any statistic. My comment "finest aircraft in the world was just to have fun with the pilot who made the movie.

    Apparently THAT was the sound-score that was beamed to the Mitsubishi populated attack force, on it's way to bomb Pearl Harbor. The lads on the street corner say that Ya 'ave to half-butcher their car's sound systems to get it to cease. ;-)

  • @jagmotorsports
    @jagmotorsports 15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Piper didn't stop making them because the design was bad. Piper built the plane to meet a request by the U.S government for a plane that had certain speed, and performance criteria for U.S. Border patrol and for other agencies but unfairly gave the winning bid to the Beech Kingair which didn't even come close to meeting the spec. With no contract Piper could not continue to built aircraft since it was so financially strapped at the time. The plane still holds many world records to this day.

    I agree that the 400LS was a great design. I have some experience with the airplane, but I must say, the MU-2 blows any of the Cheyenne aircraft out of the water.

  • @bman2101
    @bman2101 15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Im not arguing with you at all. The MU-2 is a better all around airplane. There are some aspects that the 400LS has that the mits falls a bit short on, but they dont make much of a difference. For example, 20ktas in speed difference wont make a big difference in the time it takes you to get there. maybe about 10 minutes. Cant fly the 400LS in the 30s without RVSM which is REALLY expensive. The MU-2 will get you same place in the same time for less than half the cost. Its also a better value.

    Theres no such thing as a turbine rating. The minimum ratings to fly an MU-2 are Private/Multiengine, and in the US, be properly trained under the SFAR.

    Arrrrg, turn off that darn noise! Otherwise good video. A cockpit video system, especially one that uses standard cassettes always helps you make great videos. The feds will love you for dumping it in there too.

  • @jagmotorsports
    @jagmotorsports 15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    capceo- You flew one for several years? What serial number? Your TH-cam page says your 16 and is full of flight sim movies? If your 16 then that means I've been Chief Pilot of our company and flying the 400LS since you were 4 years old. If any 400LS does not get 340 knots true then the pilot does not know how to fly it or doesn't know how to maintain it. Geeezz, I have a little fun with a pilot who flies a MU-2 and a storm of controversy erupts. Atleast it's bringing hits to your page Greg!

    Of all the videos I've watched of yours, this is the only one I cannot 'like'. Please don't put music soundtracks on them; I love hearing the actual cockpit sounds, ATC etc that you put on your Premier I videos. It puts us 'armchair pilots' in the driver's seat ;-)

    It would have been a really nice video except for the horrible soundtrack. We aviation enthusiasts want to hear the sounds of the flight - the engines, the radios, the cockpit, etc. Not some crappy music overlay. Thanks for posting the visual component, anyway.

  • @moneylab2860
    @moneylab2860 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Love the MU-2, love Telluride, but couldn't watch more than a few seconds of this due to the horribly annoying soundtrack.
