I just loved seeing that ... I have about 1200 hours in the Rice Rocket .... Such a beautiful plane to fly ... Hard to believe for those who know the plane and it s reputation for noise outside the plane ... it was quietter inside than it was our Cessna Citation C500 Jet. Beautiful Plane ... thanks for the video. !!!
Had a MU-2 in SYR for years, beautiful plane. And yes it had a unique howl when taxiing so you always knew the MU-2 signature from anything else which was cool.
Worked at an FBO as a teen. One of our frequent customers flew one of these. It was an awesome plane but it was by far the loudest plane we dealt with at idle and during ground movements. They definitely have a mixed reputation. Safe when flown by the numbers but easy to be caught out when flying outside the normal parameters (engine out, etc).
About 23 years ago, I got to ride along in the copilot seat of an MU-2 flying night express. We flew from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia, Philadelphia to Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh to Cincinnati, Cincinnati to Pittsburgh, all between midnight and 8 am. That included sitting in the pilot’s lounge in Philly for 20 or 30 minutes. That’s a fast airplane.
I remember being 16 year old kid and my father had a 58P and to the right was the smaller version of the MU..I made a good friend with the guy who wash and took care of the MU he open the plane for me several times and just the smell ..pure leather was an experience…what an aircraft!
Worked on dozen and dozen of them. Mostly rebuilding that great Garrett TPE 331 engines, know them inside and out. Along with the other fantastic turboprop the Rockwell Turbo Commander
In the us? Im looking at buying one and would love to get in contact to know I have someone that could do it and approx what it costs as well as what to look out for How can i reach you?
Good to see my old aircraft is still flying. It was a great plane to fly . You just had to learn to remember it had spoilers and pay attention to cross wind landing. Was a great short field are craft. It used less runway than a 58P Baron. Thanks for some old memories.
Are you sure this is professional flying? Nice aircraft and I am a big fan to TPEs. Please don't kill yourself with these stunts. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido
Until the pilots were trained to fly it a bad safety record. Back when I was a kid at CGS there was a corporate pilot there the flew a King Air and an MU-2 for the company. I asked what they were like. He said o"n a dark nasty night the King Air was like your mom getting you home safely. The MU-2 was like the crazy hot b*tch you picked up at the bar giving you one heck of a ride." Never forgot that even now 45 years later.
Don't stand under the tip tanks when you bleed off the tank pressure before fueling or it's a kerosene shower. I hear they taxi halfway decent with the gear up.
One of my favorite airplanes! I’m 56 and I remember seeing one as a kid at Myrtle Beach Grand Strand Airport. I remember how loud it was, I always wanted one.
Really nice video and glad to have another MU-2 in Europe! There are for sure 15 plus another 2 with doubt. In the ‘90 I flew all over Europe onboard a Solitaire. I love this plane so much that in 2018 I wrote a small book about it.
What a rocket! I love these and the lancairs but understand you must fly to a higher standard to be safe in them. The MU2 I believe has specific engine out procedures because of the powerful flaps.
Great vid. I flew in a MU2 in the mid 80s in Australia. Not long after that flight, the same plane crashed. I recall they had a series of bad crashes, I don't recall the reason. Great plane though. Cheers
WOW what a nice low altitude flight going low over houses and threes !! Taking off from a grass strip is pretty wild 2 !! Thanks for a nice flight in a nice airplane from my time I enjoyed this video clip !! 😅😅😊😊
It is a great plane on paper and from the people who have flown them before, not expensive as well, actually you can buy them at around same price as modern single piston. Visibility isn't very good it seems, even compared to planes of the same era.
I might have lost my mind after all these years, but I seem to recall that the original MU-2 was introduced by Mooney, and became Mitsubishi a little later. Anyone else?
I can't remember the last time I saw an MU-2 .Cold easily be 15-20 years or more. I live along the approach to 31-13 at Chicago Midway. At the time, there was an over night freight delivery operation, flying MU-2s there. I'd see (or hear) a Mitsubishi several times a week. They stopped operations there, and I've only seen ONE MU-2 since then.
That thing killed more Texans than the 6 gun did…in A&P school we had the last “moo cow” to come off the production line…Mitsubishi drill holes in the spar and donated it to the school… Definitely not a plane for rookie pilots.
I say, it is very rare indeed that I watch a video on TH-cam that I really enjoy. This one is just exhilarating! Love the moan of those Garrett engines. What a treat. The aircraft is US registration. Has it recently been sold?
Faster than some jets on some flight segments, high wing loading, no ailerons - spoilers instead - very big flaps to support a broad flight envelope. The MU-2 should be treated like a jet. Too many pilots got behind the curve flying this plane, which is how there were more than its share of crashes. The FAA decades later scrutinized the original certification and found nothing wrong, but mandated a Type Cert. 40 years ago a guy in my neighborhood flew the MU-2 and said he regularly beat original Citations between SLC and LAS Vegas, on block times.
There are 2 in service out of Windhoek Namibia. One was running for DHL to Johannesburg Int. almost daily. Now DHL have possibly bought or leased their own plane in their Colors.
Had a 74 j model i bot on 81 and flew for a few years. Got it to take the deep dive into eagle vail and grand canyon. It was very very smooth, twin Garrett cruise about 245. BUT boy was it loud and a fuel sucker. Anyways enjoyed it but sold it a few years later and got a 182T whi h did the same thing just quieter and a heck of a lot less expensive.
This looks like the longer subsequent model. One of the drawbacks of this aircraft has to be the very short wings providing minimal lift which means they've got to be flown very fast. The local airport was partly renamed after a local operator that died flying one.
That is absolutely false. It is a high wing load design, makes it less forgiving of poor pilot skill but better in turbulence than most aircraft. This is one of the best short, unimproved field aircraft available. Used to see a lot in remote areas of Alaska used as air ambulances and supply transports. The Kodiak’s now fill that role in part due to availability and to reduced pilot load. The mandatory annual type training has dramatically improved safety record but also limited the mission role of the MU2. Brilliant aircraft, still nothing can match its combination of speed, efficiency and capability
My cousin had that plane for couple of years but he got rid of it because the repairs and maintenance is expensive and parts are hard and expensive to get so he is sticking with his Cessna 414 Chancellor.
I used to work at a hanger where one of these were kept. The pilot said it was kind of a scarry plane. Every landing felt completely different than the one before. Yikes.
I used to work line service at an FBO and one day a Falcon 50 came in from Japan with top level Sony Corp execs on board. Right after they deplaned the three Japanese pilots were standing around outside as an MU-2 landed and taxied off. They were obviously well familiar, and they all started pointing at it, laughing and joking in Japanese. I never knew if that was a good thing or not…..
The Mu-2 B-60 Marquise was the fastest (and noisiest!) turboprop I ever flew. With a vmc of 99 and a vyse of 152, it demanded respect. You could fly into places that you couldn't safely fly back out of. King Air docile it was not.
Only someone is unfamiliar with aviation would point out the age of an airplane they are not cars its a totally different situation ive flown 60 year old airplanes not unusual
company had 3 F's. Parts man in AGS caught Stevens Aviation out on a demo flight in C90. He pulls up beside the little C90 feathers right engine in a K model and PULLS AWAY !! ROFLMAO

even quieter with 5 blade MT props
Don't let the woke people hear you calling it that😂

300 kts or close
Now that is cool, that must have been a really exciting flight. I haven't even seen an MU-2, let alone flown one one. Awesome in-flight footage!
Thank You. It was an awesome short flight.
I remember being 16 year old kid and my father had a 58P and to the right was the smaller version of the MU..I made a good friend with the guy who wash and took care of the MU he open the plane for me several times and just the smell ..pure leather was an experience…what an aircraft!
Wow, that's a sharp looking aircraft. Thanks for posting.
Worked on dozen and dozen of them. Mostly rebuilding that great Garrett TPE 331 engines, know them inside and out. Along with the other fantastic turboprop the Rockwell Turbo Commander

Got about 3000 hours in the rice rocket back in the 1990s
Cool plane. Thanks for sharing !!

Happy Landings,

agreed.. this looks a bit "stunty" for my taste.. i hope they know what they are doing.. this is a very serious aircraft
Until the pilots were trained to fly it a bad safety record. Back when I was a kid at CGS there was a corporate pilot there the flew a King Air and an MU-2 for the company. And they are a bitch to fuel.
Don't stand under the tip tanks when you bleed off the tank pressure before fueling or it's a kerosene shower. I hear they taxi halfway decent with the gear up.
just gave a LIKE within the first 3 seconds.... OMG what A BEAUTY....
The LOUDEST little propeller-turbine powered aircraft ever produced!
That mountain range is giving you one hell of a fight !
One of my favorite airplanes! I’m 56 and I remember seeing one as a kid at Myrtle Beach Grand Strand Airport. I remember how loud it was, I always wanted one.

What's the name of your book?
@@rumingjiang69 The misunderstood Mitsubishi MU-2
Love this video! Must be wonderful soundproofing in the aircraft. (Thank you for NOT adding music!)
Super klasicni avion. Iz vremena kad se govorilo: "If it looks well, it works well".
the best utube ever mu2 with double flame out with ice in mountains. part 1 and part ❤😂2, the guy had balls of steel
What a rocket! I love these and the lancairs but understand you must fly to a higher standard to be safe in them. The MU2 I believe has specific engine out procedures because of the powerful flaps.
Gotta love those Garretts
got to fly in North America, Mu-2 , 111MA. a real special treat
Great vid. I flew in a MU2 in the mid 80s in Australia. Not long after that flight, the same plane crashed. I recall they had a series of bad crashes, I don't recall the reason. Great plane though. Cheers
The mu-2 must be flwon by the book the design was actully recertified by the Faa but was done with flying colors
Autopilot went ape$
Holy cow, for its size, it approaches pretty fast. Must be an adrenaline to fly this
I flew the mu 2 in the late 80’s. Didn’t have a clue what I was doing back then but loved the plane
When I was a kid I remember Roy Clark the Opry Star always fueling up his MU2 at Memphis Aero on the way to Nashville.
WOW what a nice low altitude flight going low over houses and threes !! Taking off from a grass strip is pretty wild 2 !! Thanks for a nice flight in a nice airplane from my time I enjoyed this video clip !! 😅😅😊😊
a nice functional designed plane
One of my fav aircraft. Used to watch the overnight courier load up at my local airport every week.
Awesome aircraft ✈️👍 noisy but awesome
It is a great plane on paper and from the people who have flown them before, not expensive as well, actually you can buy them at around same price as modern single piston.
Visibility isn't very good it seems, even compared to planes of the same era.
Thanks for uploading!
I have always loved this design. 70's
Wow super cool 👍 What a great flight experience 👌
Thanks. It was a really nice flight.
Loved the Rice rocket
Now THAT is a magnificent looking air machine.
love t❤he garretts

Not sure when it was sold, but it was recently. Also, Thank You.
Two companies that make both cars and planes. Flew and drove them both. Mitsubishi and Saab.

My favorite private prop aircraf but never flown on its but I like it’s because of the beautiful design and silhouette look
Absolutely one of the sexiest GA planes ever built.
Great onboard flight footage!
Always liked this aircraft
That looks amazing!!
I used to work for Aero Taxi in KRFD and flew cargo in these death traps lol I also flew the Beech-18 flying parts for Chrysler
Loudest aircraft I have ever heard outside the Phantom.
Never had the chance to hear a F-4 IRL but this one's a loud one even inside in flight.
Excellent trip!
There are 2 in service out of Windhoek Namibia. One was running for DHL to Johannesburg Int. almost daily. Now DHL have possibly bought or leased their own plane in their Colors.
Cooooooooooooooooolllllll man !!!! very nice aircraft ! Classic !
MUITO BOM ESSE TURBO PROP 👍👍 🇧🇷
2023: Only 3 seconds of play, then pause, then 3 seconds of play, then pause... I always loved these planes.
Beautiful plane
To me, still an excellent prop liner!
Fantastic machine!
I used to fly N334EB and N495MA. Noisy as hell!! but fast
Edo my friend, very nice video, I like this plane, I don't think I've ever seen one, plus the fuel pods for more range, nice
Oh yes it is. A really interesting and beautiful design.
@@edostuffEdo my friend, I agree with you 100%, have a nice weekend
That's a quiet interior.
There's one on a daily commute between Windhoek, Namibia and OR Tambo, South Africa 🇿🇦.
theres a couple of these at the airport where I work I was always interested in this plane
Nice flying
It had some bad PR, but what a great plane. Flies more lik e a jet. THANKS
Very loud, very fast, very big props,

BUT boy was it loud and a fuel sucker. Anyways enjoyed it but sold it a few years later and got a 182T whi h did the same thing just quieter and a heck of a lot less expensive.
The full-span flaps are STILL ahead of their time... can't think of another twin that has them.
MU-300. AKA BeechJet/Hawker 400. Still Mitsubishi design. Good catch my guy!
This looks like the longer subsequent model. One of the drawbacks of this aircraft has to be the very short wings providing minimal lift which means they've got to be flown very fast. The local airport was partly renamed after a local operator that died flying one.
I think stall is 80 so you can fly this crazy slow

cool aircraft
Could you please explain: What is it about the MU-2's handling characteristics that requires additional type-specific training?
Onde foi este vôo?
Are those fuel tanks at the end of both wings?
I always thought those were kinda dangerous.
I used to work at a hanger where one of these were kept. The pilot said it was kind of a scarry plane. Every landing felt completely different than the one before. Yikes.

noticed his flight director was a FD-112V ,,self contained FDl and HSl in one case made by Collins

It was a fly by.
I’m glad I wasn’t on the plane for the fly by. Seemed a little “ brave” for my liking…
