    Great Squeeze song!!!
They did different styles but these early rockers were great.

Chris Difford's lyrics and Glenn Tilbrook's Melodies, Vocals and Guitar, Supported by other great musicians made for a wonderful band, So many amazing tune's.

Great song from a great band, 'Take Me I'm Yours' was one of the very first singles I ever bought. Cheers all!

Talking of Lennon, this was performed in his flat`s kitchen.

The lyrics are very skilfully put together. More than the clever rhymes it's the concision of the storytelling, so much implied in so few words.

Well said and good point but I’ve always found squeeze to be loquacious. The wordiness is part of their genius but it does get in the way sometimes. It also makes their songs hard to sing along to-professional-level breath control required 😂

I ever liked The Squeeze. My favorite album from them is their 3rd one "Argybargy" (1980). So much great stuff on it.
I grew up with british punk and new wave music like Squeeze, Stranglers and Sex Pistols. Great to see them on your channel.

😄 Any of their other singles would also be a good call.
I had to smile when Andy mentioned a pregnant pause during the _first_ verse. I've always thought she visited the doctor because of morning sickness. I'd never noticed the connection to "Positively 4th Street" but it's there all right.
Jools reminding us of the days when it was cool to play piano with a ciggy dangling from the corner of your mouth.
There's also "up the spout", which I think is mainly London. Search for the doggerel poem "The Bleedin' Sparrer" for explanation. A "packet of three" was what you night ask the barber for in them olden days when he said "Anything else, Sir? Something for the weekend, perhaps?" if you were too embarrassed to visit the chemists shop. The TV play was past the watershed and my bedtime, and featured a backstreet abortion in the days when all abortions were basically illegal.

Such a wonderful song, poignant and bittersweet. Might be my fave Squeeze song except for perhaps Pulling Mussels from the Shell

Tilbrook reminded me of Steve 'interesting' Davis in this video! This is probably my favourite Squeeze song of their many hits, just ahead of 'Cool for cats'. I think of Squeeze as a very likeable band but they lack a cutting edge for me. Great reaction as usual guys, Cheers.

One of my favorite bands! You’re not going to find a better 3 album run than Cool for Cats, Argy Bargy and East Side Story. I believe “Tempted “ is their biggest hit in the states.
Speaking of John Cale , music 2024 John Cale - How we See The Light.

    Dear Chaps and Chappettes,
Great song. I have always considered the lyrics as a great poem. What have I got to say? Basically, everything that Jon said. This song along with "Cool For Cats" are just great lyrics. I think that I am right in saying that both songs are from 1979. Urban social realism? I was 17 in the Midlands in 1979, and this is the world that I remember.
Two songs from (way) outside of the box to raise your day. This time from Brazil. The first song I heard from a compilation put together by David Byrne.
Jorge Ben - Ponta de Lança Africano (Umbabarauma)
If you are listening to this song and not moving, check your pulse. You may be dead.
The second song, I heard when I got the album
    Jorge Ben - Taj Mahal
Both tracks are from the album, Jorge Ben - "África Brasil". This (for me) is one of those few albums where every track is great.
Keep up the good work chaps
P.s. I am filing this under "you learn something new every day". I recently listened to a (mighty fine) interview by Lydia Lunch and Tim Dahl with Meredith Monk. Lydia asked Meredith what music she listens to and she mentioned piano music by Federico Mompou (1893 - 1987). This was completely new to me. So I went to youtube and had a search. It feels to me a little like Satie without the whimsy, but folks may want to give it a try. You may have to be in the right mood, but I really feel like I have found a new gem for my own little bag of treasures. Enjoy

Okay. I wanted to mention a video with some of Mompou's music. I went down the rabbit hole for this:
Guiomar Novaes plays Mompou Jeunes filles au jardin
      This is from a 78 from 1948
And here is the man himself
Federico Mompou « Jeunes filles au jardin » /1976
      Enjoy

    "Good bye girl" anyone?

  • @terrysutton8452

Their lyrics were way too British to allow them to break the American market, but in fact their lyrics were very universal. Also, there are definitely country and western influences there, even more so in songs like ‘Labeled with Love’. I really don’t know what category you would put them in. I would just call them a very smart pop band.

Another artist who absorbed country and western was Elvis Costello. I am not going to suggest a particular song, but I am sure Jon could suggest one that would wow Andrew 😊

@@terrysutton8452 Hope sell is well, Terry! Jon had me give Elvis Costello a go last year. I wouldn’t mind hearing some more though, as I recall I quite enjoyed this live performance. th-cam.com/video/gMW7ZV4HrRw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Ap5zZbSdyuXJb5Ty
