    Look at your back foot positioning Backside and Frontside. It's basically in the same place on the stringer. Going Front side, you need to load the rail more, with the toes more closer to the edge and you heels almost off the stringer.
    Your last wave was best because it had the best lock down of the tail. Most of the other waves, you rushed the steps and didn't wait for the lock.

    • @LongboardSessions
      @LongboardSessions  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Super cool Brian... I notice that both you and Ben have your lead foot pointing somewhat straight forward while cross-stepping and especially(obviously) nose riding. I do the same, but recently felt more stability of the board while having my feet pointing more towards the rail and less towards the nose(cross-stepping), although that of course could just be because I don't have my inside rail dug deep enough into that face of the wave for stability?

    • @LongboardSessions
      @LongboardSessions  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your foot is perpendicular to the stringer it will technically be more stable. However as Jack Doughty pointed out a few videos ago, if your foot is perpendicular than your hips also have to point a bit more perpendicular to the stringer which is not ideal. The compromise is to have your foot at more of a 45 degree angle, but cross step closer to the inside rail. Work on keeping the rail enganged in the face of the wave and you should do this automatically. I struggle with this as well

    • @LongboardSessions
      @LongboardSessions  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Another way to think about it is you want your hips and upper body to be in a regular walking position as if you're strolling down the side walk, but your feet pointed at a 45 degree angle. It's not a natural position for us humans so you have to work it out as much as you can on land to build up the muscle memory

    • @LongboardSessions
      @LongboardSessions  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh that's great! My board is a 9'6" COS Chingona. Fiberglass board. I've never even tried an epoxy so I wouldn't really know the difference. It seems most traditional noseriders are fiberglass though

    Hey mate, great videos I've just binged a heap of them. As someone that is working on their cross stepping are you someone that ever had the bad habit of shuffling? It's something I'm working removing every surf but any tips would be great!

    • @LongboardSessions
      @LongboardSessions  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks Ross thats awesome! Well, I started longboarding only a few months before I started this channel (after short boarding my whole life) and knew that shuffling wasn't the way to do it. So I basically started cross stepping from the beginning. However, after a few successful cross steps you quickly realize how shuffling is actually much harder. You lose contact with the board when shuffling which makes everything very unstable. Cross stepping keeps the rail enganged the whole time... and that's the key.
      The only tip I can give you is to NEVER allow yourself to shuffle. If you want to move forward, cross step. You'll wipe out tons of times, but once you get the basic feel for it you'll never go back. That being said, even the pros shuffle every now and than, but basically only when they want to get their feet over the fin a bit more. So it's typically only when going backwards and on very rare occasions.

    • @michaelburk9171
      @michaelburk9171 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unlearning bad habits you've already committed to muscle memory is more difficult then learning. IMO. Try cross stepping on land and mind surfing. In the water take just 1 or 2 cross steps. Seems kinda strange, but try moving your back foot smoothly over your front foot then back. Even if you just touch down on the deck with little or no weight transfer.

  • @richardfowell5687

    • @LongboardSessions
      @LongboardSessions  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have you watched wingnut's art of longboarding? It is a SERIOUS piece of longboard surfing treasure and Wingnut gives some GREAT tips on the fundamentals of longboarding. If you haven't watched it you should and it would be some great food for thought for you and maybe even some video material! A small "longboard sessions reacts" video could be cool or maybe even touching on some of the categories he talks about in the video. "cross stepping" "noseriding" "the take off" "cutting back." As I said absolute treasure!
