Your videos are exellent! This afternoon I tried the open shoulder stance and finally managed to crosstep forward.Doing it backwards it's a lot easier. Now I see this video and I feel I'm on the right path. Mahalo!
Hey there.... getting all these tips on fixing the loose fin is awesome.. Almost as awesome as the channel.. keep it up, your persistence is an inspiration.
What I have always used for loose fins is simple and effective recycling. Used plastic box strapping strip of about 50mm long x 12mm wide. When you install your fin, place the strip evenly across the fin box. Then lever the fin down into the box across the strip to line up the screw with the sliding nut. You should end up with a little excess - cut with a craft knife. You can adjust the placement of the tape from font to rear for the best result. Tighten that nut and get your feet back in the wax!
Oh that's a great idea Karl! And fairly permanent as well. I like the idea that the plastic strip goes along the whole side of the fin... that's if I'm understanding you correctly
When I have a loose fine, I fold some thin cardboard around the bottom of it... Like a playing card or piece of a cereal box. Decent temporary solution!
The last fin I bought came with plastic shims that you could use to secure the fin and keep it from wobbling. Any thin piece of plastic may help. You could even use paper if it’s just a single session.
At minute 6:17: you might try to disengage the rail for a second (a simple hip movement toward the beach). Thus, allowing your board to slide down the face a foot or two. Then as you re-engage the rail again, you're back in trim, and still set up for the nose ride. -- this technique will allow you to steer the board from the nose in such situations (and keep you from loosing the wave).
100%. However, Im still so stiff when i'm noseriding.. I need to figure out a way to loosen myself up that way adjustments are easier. I just need to chill haha
Love your videos. To tighten up your loose fin: Cut a rectangular piece of aluminum from a beer can and fold it into a sharp U shape, which surrounds the sides and bottom of the fin. Add additional u sections, depending on how loose the fin is.
Love your videos man! I had exactly the same problem with the loose fin, took off too much to get it into the box. I've tried a whole bunch of things, and most of them only work for a session or two. The best long term solution is still to just coat the bottom of the fin with some resin. Let it dry properly, and give it a go. Keep adding coats until you get a nice snug fit. Keep on making these great vids, I'm learning a lot from them 🤙
Thanks Joe! Glad they can help! Yea it seems resin and taking your time is the way to go. I think I'll make a video trying all the temp solutions, but finish with doing it the proper way.
I could feel your pain Brian!, some sessions just feel like you are hitting your head against a wall. My local point breaks in Noosa Australia are similar to the conditions in this video. As you mentioned rushing in a controlled manner to the nose has helped me with longer nose rides. Been watching Tommy’s video too and been using his tips to help with my riding . Looking forward to what he can offer in a future video.
Hello! I'm from Rio de Janeiro. Your videos are really cool. It's improving my surfing a lot, thank you. To stabilize the fin, place a piece of straw perpendicular to the fin box before attaching the fin.
Loose longboard fin hack: Empty tooth paste tube, used as a shim. Cut it open. Cut a rectangular shape, big enough area to fit down over the sides and the base of the fin box, dont be worried about overlap. Place the shim over the fin box and lower/push the fin home. Shim fills out the gap. Excess raises either side of the fin, remove with a sharp blade.
Excellent. I like this idea because a toothpaste tube is very waterproof. Some shim ideas I can see breaking down over time... however I could be wrong
Awsome , and yep, reresin and sand for a more permanent fit on your fin, and that way you can get it exactly how you like it! I’m workin on trying to add a lil more style when I come out of my nose rides, I found that I was concentrating to much on hanging that’s all I was trying ,tens are still tuff, but five I’m not bad at! I’m having a lot more fun again trying to put some flair and different style techniques coming off the nose! Myself I find that doing a few style rides loosens me up so I’m more relaxed when I start hanging! Your long boarding definitely has improved tremendously, keep it up! Always stoked to watch your vids!
Agreed. I tear a small strip from a wax box (the waxed paper lasts longer) slot it under the fin and push the fun down then you can tear the excess pieces off of either side of the fin.
we stay the last two weeks in France and I had incredible waves and beautiful weather, the surf was pumping but my endurance was not good... Doing crossteps and improve my hanging five was not so easy, but your videos helps a lot👍
You improved so much since last videos Good job 👏🏻 I definitely love the back foot rail tips, did it on my last sessions and it’s easier to go in the nose 👃
To fix the problem with the fin I did cut a rectangle of plastic from a soda bottle. About 4cm x long of the fin bottom Then I just placed center over the box and press with the fin gentle to do a mark then I did four small cuts on the ends and put it in between de box and the fin
Hi dude, love all your videos and find them so helpful. I need some advice on learning to cross step, I manage a couple of steps then I either fly off the front or the back.
Thanks!! Well that's a loaded question haha! I have about 20 videos on cross stepping, but the first thing you should do is learn how to surf in the 'cross stepped' position. Meaning, take your first step and stay cross stepped for the rest of the wave. This will get you so comfortable in that position and makes cross stepping feel way more natural
I just add a bit of strong tape on the base of the fin. Permanent if you leave it in or remouvable if needed. If its placed well cant even see it. Great videos watch them all the time. Cheers Dude
@@LongboardSessions Yeah a ding repair kit would be more then enough. If you fix your own dings just use tape till you have a repair to make. That way your not wasting as much resin, it should only take a little amount of it. A local ding repair shop might be able to brush a little on for you too.
When nose riding, do you look at your feet and nose of the board as you walk? Or do you look at the face of the wave in front of you and use intuition to guide your steps?
You want to look ahead of you at the wave. Occasionally you'll see a longboarder look at their board, but it's rare. In surfing you typically always want to look where your going. And you can still see the board while your looking at the wave which helps
Hey bud videos looking good hopefully you get out this week I got out on Wednesday after the storm was super harsh today Thursday January 6th was a good day for an hour work schedules haha but a final comment I hate using the leash as you know I'm a short border so I don't have that big bord problem but I'm the same with you buddy can't stand those damn things LOL
I use some pieces of plastic to wedge into fins. All of my fin boxes are a little bit different, and some fins are just a slightly different size. I can't stand loose fin boxes. Almost unsurfable
@@LongboardSessions the cardboard from a wax box (sex wax) works well because it is a little bit malleable so the fin can sandwich into the box. The problem is that it gets squishy in salt water and eventually deteriorates. I tend to swap fins so often that it doesn't really matter to me.
also... if you ever come out to southern california... hit me up! I feel like Malibu first point would be a game changer for you. It is a hell of a lot easier to noseride on a proper point break than shifting New Jersey Sandbars.
Loose fin, shim it with some newspaper. The newspaper will swell a bit when it gets wet. This is how George Freeth got fins to hold in the original wood finboxes he designed.
2 years late, and you’ve probably already fixed it, but maybe there are some others with the same problem as far as a loose fin. Duct tape is a solution, but I’ve always found it to be too thick. A piece of electrical tape works much better in my opinion. I’ve got a loose fin and I put a strip of electrical tape on just one side of the base of the fin.
Your videos are exellent! This afternoon I tried the open shoulder stance and finally managed to crosstep forward.Doing it backwards it's a lot easier.

Oh that's awesome! Yea opening up your shoulders helps so much... i'm especially finding it useful on frontside waves
Hey there.... getting all these tips on fixing the loose fin is awesome.. Almost as awesome as the channel.. keep it up, your persistence is an inspiration.
Yea for real! I have to make a video testing all these out as well. Thanks for the kind words!
Great go! I've watched it through once and immediate reaction is that I feel like, despite your frustrations, the middle section looked best!
Agreed! Forcing myself to focus on the board setup helps quite a bit... i gotta do that more often

I always put a piece of duck tape around de base of the fin, that way its not that loose
Sounds like I need a to buy some! Quite a few duct tape comments haha
Agreed. I tear a small strip from a wax box (the waxed paper lasts longer) slot it under the fin and push the fun down then you can tear the excess pieces off of either side of the fin.
Love it. How long does this last? I imagine the box will start to break down over time even tho it is waxed
@@LongboardSessions used it last weekend. Still stiff as a board four long sessions in!

Wow sounds like an awesome trip! I gotta work on improving my fitness as well... I was totally wiped in this video
that looked like a fun surf sash bro! you are really getting that hang 5, makes sense!
thanks rey! you been out at all? or skipping the winter?
You improved so much since last videos
Good job 👏🏻

I learn a lot from each of yr video.
for loosen fin box, just try plastic drinking straw.
hope it helps.

Thanks so much! Yea tape seems to be the way to go
Sick, your surfing is looking epic bro. Also FCS fins do a spares kit and it has fin shims inside it. 🤙
Thanks so much! Oh interesting... I"ll see if they have a kit at the surf shop!
I've heard thin tape works. Best solution is take the time and brush on a little resin but it is a lot more work then tape or a shim.
yea I think it sounds like tape is a good temp fix, but resin would be the ultimate. I guess most surf shops would carry a bit of resin?

Great vid. For your loose fine you can cut a piece plastic from a coke bottle and wedge in both sides if you need.
Thanks Paul! Yea It seems like any piece of plastic shoved in there should work... who knew?? haha
Loose Fin: As with nearly all surfboard issues. A few strips of duck tape works perfectly.
duct tape fixes everything haha
LOVE your videos, man! Cuz of you my 2022 goal is to hang ten!! 👣
Thanks Anthony! If you're already hanging 5, next weeks video will help with transitioning to 10!
@@LongboardSessions Oh nice!! I can't wait! Yeah when I hang 5, for some reason bringing my back foot also to the nose just feels so scary 😶🌫

Cut out a piece of soda can and jam the thing in there! Just a little rectangle will do
Also you are surfing great! This session looked amazing!!
Thanks Nathan! Someone else mentioned the soda can as well.. who knew?? I'll give it a shot
I put a strip of duck tape on the sides of the fin and jam it in.
love it! I'll try it out
I usually cut some plastic packaging in a strip and wrap it around the fin. Stop the fin movement. YNWA 🤙
all of the things I thought people would scoff at are all the things people are recommending haha!
ynwa !
Clear packing tape for your fin.
Great idea! I can see that holding up as well

I suggest you to put a little piece of plastic(plastic bag) in the fin socket before you winding the fin. Enjoy surfing🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭
Ah interesting Idea! I'll give it a shot
Big secret to noseriding: weigh around 150lbs and buy a huge board.
hahaha yes sir! I'm only 130 lbs so it doesn't even need to be that big😂
Yes, duct tape. Permanent solution. Of course I never take my fin out.
yea seems like that’s a good solution. I’m gonna try a few.. maybe make a quick video
Duct tape
Seems to be the best temp fix! Or permanent maybe lol
