Glad I watched your video. I'm in the market for a booster for our new RV. You raised an interesting point. The main reason we want one is because we find campground wifi is weak and undependable. You made mention of it not working in that case. I understand it won't boost their wifi but wouldn't it boost the signal THEY receive? When a lot of campers are on the campground wifi it drags the shared signal down considerably. Would this not give us an independent boosted signal? Thanks
No Dale, unfortunately for your situation a product like this will ONLY boost cellular phone signal. Similarly, something like a WiFi Ranger will ONLY boost the signal strength, and do absolutely nothing for quality or upload/download speeds.
Hi Marc, thanks for the video. I will be buying a booster within two months. Can you compare the Weboost to this hiboost? Which is better? Also you told use about Visible hot spot with use of the HooToo Wireless Travel Router a few months ago. I got both yesterday (the HooToo is not available so I got the RavPower Filehub, maybe it is not the same thing) and I am having a hard time trying to figure out how to set the router up to use it the way you use it. Please think about doing a video on that setup. Thank you. Don
Hey Don! Actually if I had to choose I'd choose the HiBoost as I really like the app to check status, and it's $50 cheaper. As for the Visible/router setup, check the pinned comment on that video where we've posted explicit step by step instructions. Let me know if you still need help after that.

It's all in how you are in putting your date of birth. It's asking for a different format. You need to input the date in the form DD/MM/YYYY not MM/DD/YYYY.
Barely, and I mean barely! An inch front and back, I have to fold in one mirror, and I can't put any kind of lift or have the Yakima roof rack on. LOL!
How close to the the indoor antenna does your phone have to be to pick up the amplified signal? Does it perform any better than your Weboost? How long is the outside and inside cables?
KJ, we've found that the inside antenna works best when it's within about 10 feet of the mobile device. It's range is limited intentionally, otherwise it could generate a signal loopback with the outdoor antenna. While we didn't show the side-by-side results in this video, we ran the exact same test in the exact same location using the weBoost in our episode 39 th-cam.com/video/sRMMyiu1WIg/w-d-xo.html . The results are just about identical. We actually didn't measure the cable lengths, but both are substantial. We're sure that Hiboost's customer service team could answer that via phone or via the chat utility on their website.

Looking forward to this. My weBoost Drive 4G-X RV unit has been a disappointment; even with a replacement 12v power supply from the vendor my download speed improvements are consistently less than 20% of the attainable speed with no boost. Not worth the hassle of setting up the antenna mast. I suspect there is something else malfunctioning in the unit but I can't seem to convince their customer support folks.
Sure thing, Don. You're probably trying to enter your birth date as MM/DD/YYYY as we do in the US, whereas you'll note that the website is asking for the format DD/MM/YYYY as most other countries do.
Although we didn't compare them side-by-side in this video, we ran the exact same test on the weBoost in our episode 39 th-cam.com/video/sRMMyiu1WIg/w-d-xo.html . Both episodes were filmed in the exact same location, our driveway. The results are nearly identical.

I was considering picking up a WeBoost, but wanted to make sure that it was compatible with a regular Win10 desktop first, my main office machine while I'm on the road...
Thank you Michael! The answer is a big, "it depends." If your PC has a mobile data card (like a built-in hotspot), using it with a booster would be seamless. Just power everything up and go. However, assuming that your PC only has a WiFi radio, you need a mobile device with a data plan and its hotspot feature turned on. In fringe mobile signal areas, the booster will improve the signal strength between the phone and the cell tower, whereas the PC will get its data from the phone's hotspot function.

Marc, are you aware of any "shootouts" or comparison tests of cellular signal boosters? We have a booster made by Wilson but it only works on 3G (still plenty fast for most uses). I've been very happy with Wilson's customer service, but I'd be willing to consider another mfr when we upgrade.
Well, we didn't do side-by-side in this video, but if you go back to our Ep. 39 on the weBoost (Wilson) Drive 4G-X RV you'll see that the quantitative performance is nearly identical. Specs are identical, and the performance was, too. We tested both in the exact same physical location, our driveway -- which has really crappy, virtually unusable unboosted signal.
@@GrandAdventure Thanks! I wasn't necessarily referring to your testing -- although that is very helpful -- I was thinking of a Consumer Reports style test with multiple units from different mfrs. Obviously the chance of CR themselves actually testing cellular boosters is slim to none, but perhaps the equivalent of DPReview.com -- but for cellular gear instead of cameras.
@@GrandAdventure Thanks! I was just being lazy. I thought you might know of one. I'll do some searching and research before we buy a replacement booster. If I find a good website I'll pass it on. I noticed that Gary (below) said he was having some trouble with customer support. Hopefully that's a fluke. As I've gotten older, customer service has become more and more important to me. At the same time, generally speaking, customer support at many companies seems to be an afterthought at best. When I've called Wilson, they always answered quickly and put me in touch with a tech who clearly had a clue (I'm a technician myself). The last time I called they actually offered to send me some better (lower loss) coax cable for us to try, absolutely free. I hadn't even asked, they suggested it. Of course, my experience could have been the exception, who knows? Also, while customer support is important, if a company has a product that has clearly better performance for a lower price, I might overlook concerns about support.

I'm already paying AT&T for unlimited wifi in my truck. The only problem is it goes off when we shut off the truck. Anyone know what I have to do so I can keep the truck's wifi to remain on after we turn the ignition off? The range is supposed to be up to 50 feet so it should reach into our trailer. Is there a 12 volt booster someone may know of just in case? Thanks, happy n safe travels!
You're not looking for a booster. You could change the way the truck's router is powered by connecting it to a hot (always on) power lead, instead of switched to the ignition the way that it is now. You'd have to take care, however, that the power draw isn't substantial enough that it would draw down your battery to the point that you couldn't start your truck. Understand that a booster is simply a signal amplifier. It doesn't "provide" signal. It takes the signal already being received by your phone, or other mobile device, and simply strengthens it in weak signal areas. It uses your mobile device's existing voice and data plan.
@@GrandAdventure Yep, thanks again. I guess I should have a switch so I can shut the router off before bedtime. Any idea about how many hours use of the truck's router we have before the battery runs unsafely low? It's new good battery.
I'm wondering if I keep the trailer 7pin plugged into the truck that the RV batteries can also be used?
Oh man! I won’t be able to watch but I’ll catch the replay later. 🙂😉
We love to have you here, Marla, whether during the premiere or thereafter. In any event you will be able to enter the drawing for some time after the premiere.
Take my money!
