Bore scoring is a Porsche reality that hit my 30k mile 997.1. I ‘bit the bullet’ and got a rebuild to 4.3 with Nikasil liners, forges pistons and rods and a whole host of other goodies. It’s an absolute beast now, and in everyday driving, as fast as my 991.2 GT3.
FACT : The 911 is considered a Supercar because its consistently been an Autobahn killer for Decades.....this C4S is a 190 mph capable car.....might not be the quickest getting there in todays world but it will do it 7 days a week and twice on a Sunday !! Its the Heritage that sets a Porsche 911 out as a Supercar !
Guys love these cars , I bought one last year c4S 997 , it’s one of my childhood dream cars I always wanted one but since I am a family guy I soon forgot about them, however it’s surprise me the lazy day to day ideal daily sports car can jump into hyper mode at a press of a button. Strong quality built cars and it performs like no other car once you drop the pedal to the metal! Mine is a 6 speed manual and aero factory kit and rebuilt by previous owner from Hartech rebuilds specialist which was the reason I bought it I looked for this example for years and finally happy
There were also a GT3, GT3 RS, Turbo S and GTS models of 997 (along with a Sport Classic model). Regarding Bore Scoring, it’s not just internet hype, the liners of the bores were made of a material which will score eventually. How you drive it (allowing it to warm up properly) and proper servicing will help.
Awesome vid guys😁 👍, i have a 997 c2s convertible auto. Im glad you brought up the bore score and ims, as it is overhyped topic. Just to mention, im glad your filming in Pontypool 👍

Funny enough only 911 I've driven is a 2005 997.1 carrera 4s automatic convertible. Despite not driven anything that powerful at the time I wasn't impressed by the performance but loved the handling and engine noise

Before I got my 997 and after I got my 997 I never thought of the 911 as a supercar. It's a high end sports car. One of the only last purpose built sports cars left. The others being the Miata, the 86/BRZ, all the exotics of course, the 718, and maybe one or two others I'm forgetting. Chassis and engine built for one intended purpose. Yes, it's a true sports car and that is rare and feels different from a super sporty sedan or coupe based off a mass produced car. However, it's just a sports car that is built in an era where there aren't enough of them. Supercars are sports cars that take it to the next level. I feel that some 911s fit that bill. However, the non Turbo or GT cars are not. What the "lower end" 911s do great is they actually have amazing engineering. It really is the perfect car for gearheads who want a "practical" car (and a bit of money). I think they have superior engineering and manufacturing processes over cars like Ferrari, Mercedes, and BMW. It is an amazing overall car that literally no car on the road can match in its ability to smply do it all.
Thanks man! 🙏 You do have a point, they certainly are designed to be tourers. I can't bring myself to like the Roma 😬...or any modern Ferrari for that matter 🙈 lol - Drew

997 C2S has wide body and 3.8l engine, per the C4S, just in 2wd format. Base Carrera is narrow body with 3.6l. Small point, but the C2S got the widebody with the 997 model.
As much of a bummer the torque converter is , I think it makes the auto ones perfect as the 'everyday supercar' , if it was harsh and always making you feel excited it would be a weekend toy rather than the everyday car If you get me 🤣🤣 but saying this I'm not the biggest of porsche fans 🙈
Absolutely dude! Kenny drove it most of the day, and he said the auto box was a pleasure. Yeh, less temptation with an auto box 😂 Thank you for watching as always dude! 🙏 - Drew
My understanding is that it’s the IMS that affects approx 5% of these cars, but bore scoring is due to the inherent design flaw of this engine so will eventually happen to all examples sooner or later. It’s just hoping that you get an example that has had it sorted already, or will happen after the end of your ownership. Is this not correct?
I have been in the market for a 997 Porsche and all 4 cars I was super close to buying it was subject to bore scoring results and all 4 came back with some scoring on it. Even with low mileage under 30,000 miles have it. Scoring happens in colder temperature while the car just sits there during the winter months. So I think the scoring on the 997's % is a lot higher than that. To replace the engine due to scoring easily will cost over $30,000 USD. So now I gave up looking for a 997. I am now in the market for a 991.1 manual. It's too bad because the 997 body is perfect size.
Supercar, I wouldnt call a C4S a supercar. Certainly a great sports car and worthy of praise. However short of a 997 Turbo, Turbo S or GT2 spec its not a supercar.
