I think I first encountered this show with my father at a rental store called Hollywood Video. I remember the Robo Koopa episode vaguely traumatizing me for a somewhat silly thing, Mario and Luigi got this mech suit in the episode and Luigi controlled the lower half, an animation error led to Luigi's face still being inside the mech suit despite Luigi being visibly outside of the suit in the same scene. It bothered me since my kid brain couldn't rationalize why there where two Luigis, one of which was creepily still and had lifeless eyes.

OMG Such a fun idea. I always wanted some elements of the animated characters in the games. Especially "Koopa". He was such a different design and character than "Bowser".
@@WarDragonOfTheLight Not only it's cool and better when it's made better; but also the fact that Nintendo pretended it doesn't exist, makes this unlikely to get DMCA'd.
Oh wow! This really brings back some nostalgia! That looks amazing! I would love to play this! I was a loyal fan of this show when I was like 9 or 10. Ahhh...good times.
I love every single thing about this. Mario's blank canvas personality allows him to be extremely adaptable to any form of game and for a cartoon that was obviously so heavily drawn from in later inspiration for certain characters and personalities (like Luigi) it would make a wonderful homage to one of the leading events that helped kick all that off. The super show had such an abstract, wacky, and unique look to it, that I think it makes this project REALLY stand out on its own and looks wonderful for it. I really wish Nintendo was more open-minded about stuff like this because had it been a property I personally owned, I would be getting this fellow on the phone right now to work on this project officially with an actual staff and budget. Simply astounding and beautiful work, Mr.Lopez.
In the 40th episode of the Super Show, "Plummers Academy," during the live-action segment "Glasnuts," Mario and Luigi were literally met in their house by Mikhail Gorbachev himself. Now, this carries a lot more significance than it may seem at first glance. See, the Super Show was actually the first time Mario and Luigi were given actual personalities: Mario, the strong-willed leader, and Luigi, the easy-to-scare understudy. But their personalities weren't limited to the Super Show; to this day, both Mario and Luigi have still retained these personalities in almost every official Nintendo game they've appeared in. This is huge, as it means the Super Mario Bros. Super Show is canon to the Mario universe. What this also implies is that, seeing as the live-action segments are explained to be a prequel to the cartoon segments in the opening transition between live-action and cartoon in every episode, all of the live-action segments are _also_ canon to the Mario universe. Thus, in conclusion, Mikhail Gorbachev canonically exists in the Mario universe; and not only does Mikhail Gorbachev exist in the Mario universe, but Mario and Luigi have canonically met and interacted with Mikhail Gorbachev. Thank you for reading my thesis.
I remember way back in the day when this cartoon used to have cover versions of popular songs in the action sequences. Captain N: The Game Master and even a few episodes of the Super Mario Bros 3 cartoon used to do that too until they changed them to generic instrumentals to avoid copyright infringement. My personal favorite was their version of Kenny Loggins' "Danger Zone".
I grew up on the Super Mario Bros. Super Show! That was how I discovered Mario and have been a fan ever since. I completely agree that the weirdness has been dialed back and, honestly, it was that weirdness, that made the show and the characters lovable and magical. This rendition is a gorgeous and brilliant idea! Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
Ah, this was a big chunk of my childhood. I vividly recall I'd get discs of this show, raid Netflix and other sites just to find episodes, and binge watch it. I can't wait to see the finished project, because as both a gamer and an artist, this is something that I would freaking LOVE!
I watched it growing up! Still a fan of the show and the characters and the games. If this were to ever come up to where us the fans can play it oh you bet I would be busting blocks to get it!
I gotta say it looks AMAZING! My fondest memories of Super Mario Bros Super Show was the first thing watching when I came back home after school from grades 3 to 6. Oh, the memories...
As a little kid I always ran home after school and sat watching the clock until the show came on. Seeing this game being made has ultimately brought 2020 from a low to a high for me.
Considering what kinds of weapons ACTUAL ninjas used back then and Nintendo's hatred of fans and Susan Wojcicki-level greediness and wickedness, I'd say "Poisoned Arrows" instead of "Sacred Ointment" since the latter sounds too pleasant when we're basically talking about the possibility of Nintendo false-flagging this along with many other games.
When i was younger, about 12 years ago i wanna say, my grandmother would take me to Hasting (rest in peace) and let me pick out a movie or something when we didn't have cable and during those months i was able to watch shows like He-Man, the Smurfs and, you guessed it, The Super Mario Super show. i was quickly enamoured with it and i was so thankful for my grandma taking me to go get dvds. This is crisp childhood right here
The super mario super show was the first thing I watched as a kid (early elementary age) on youtube (not counting when family would watch something with me in the room) which led me to watching the other mario shows. Whenever I used to watch this, I would see sunshine videos by chuggaaconroy, but I didn't watch them for a while due to fear of getting in trouble. Eventually I did watch them because of the fact my mom used to play the game and it stopped working the day I was gonna get to play it for the first time. From there I slowly watch a larger variety of youtubers, got more of an interest for all games, and even made a friend who watched chugga, so this show has a special place in my heart. If it wasn't for this show, I might have never started to watch youtube as much, never had made that friend, or never had gotten as much of an interest for games. So to summarize: I gotta give a nice thank you to this show for what it may or may not have cause... Thank you super mario super show.
This month marks the 30 year anniversary of this show... Hard to believe it has been that long! Working on this video definitely took me back!

All i can remember is the scene where Luigi throws Mario's vinyl into the fireplace saying "There, now it's even hotter!"
I was born in 2007, but my dad worked at a thrift store, so I had a box set of Super Mario Bros. super show growing up, and loved it.
Ok I legitimately have a DVD of the Super Mario Brothers Super Show, and I've watched it several times. And I haven't turned into a goomba, so I'll keep watching it.
This looks incredible! I may have had happy tears of nostalgia watching, I'd buy this in a heart beat! :D
OMG
Such a fun idea.
I always wanted some elements of the animated characters in the games.
Especially "Koopa". He was such a different design and character than "Bowser".
Thay should do this with the zelda show
And cdi, fight me
H o t e l M a r i o.
But the CD-I Zelda games are already, well, games.
A game based on the show would be cool though.
CD I remake could be cool. I mean, they can only make the game better.
@@WarDragonOfTheLight Not only it's cool and better when it's made better; but also the fact that Nintendo pretended it doesn't exist, makes this unlikely to get DMCA'd.
Excuse meeee princess
Oh wow! This really brings back some nostalgia! That looks amazing! I would love to play this! I was a loyal fan of this show when I was like 9 or 10. Ahhh...good times.
I give it 5 minutes 'til Nintendo DMCAs this. No, 30 seconds.
"beautifully animated." I loved the show, but I think that's a bit of a stretch
Yeah the animation was pretty cheap
Beautifully animated.....In it’s own way (except for the animation errors that do pop up).
@@Igneeka yeah and then it got worse in Super Mario World
YEAH ESPECIALLY WITH THE WHITE THIG ON BIRDO'S MOUTH >:))))))
During that Era it was.
14 years old and I’ve seen this show over and over on Neflex
So your telling me the animator for hgh ALSO WORKED FOR SIMPSONS TAPPED OUT?!?!?
I actually watched this show on Netflix when I was around 4 or 6. I loved this show ever since I saw episode one!
Thank you Jesus. I loved your work in the Shantae series. I hope your Mario game isn't DMCA'd
Honestly, it looks better than Nintendo's official games.
I actually did watch the show before I played any of the games
I grew up on the Super Mario Bros. Super Show!
That was how I discovered Mario and have been a fan ever since.
I completely agree that the weirdness has been dialed back and, honestly, it was that weirdness, that made the show and the characters lovable and magical. This rendition is a gorgeous and brilliant idea! Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
You know Nintendo is gonna send a DMCA notice
Nahh it's non profit
Ah, this was a big chunk of my childhood. I vividly recall I'd get discs of this show, raid Netflix and other sites just to find episodes, and binge watch it. I can't wait to see the finished project, because as both a gamer and an artist, this is something that I would freaking LOVE!
It’s a game Luigi, you didn’t make it!
Nice reference
Underated comment right here
It's a demo! I coded it!
I watched it growing up! Still a fan of the show and the characters and the games. If this were to ever come up to where us the fans can play it oh you bet I would be busting blocks to get it!

That goomba tho
I gotta say it looks AMAZING! My fondest memories of Super Mario Bros Super Show was the first thing watching when I came back home after school from grades 3 to 6. Oh, the memories...
The intro had me shook
*Shaken
As a little kid I always ran home after school and sat watching the clock until the show came on. Seeing this game being made has ultimately brought 2020 from a low to a high for me.
Nintendo Ninjas are preparing the sacred ointment as we speak.
I got to play this game myself pretty early on! Jesse Lopez is a fantastic animator and all around amazing guy. Thank you for highlighting his work!
Well good job buddy, now that you've told the world about this project, Nintendo's going to find and Cease and Desist it sooner.
This is crisp childhood right here
R.I.P. Captain Lou pro wrestler (Mario) and Danny Wells (Luigi)
The fact that this a family passion project is really dang heartwarming.
...
*It would be awesome.*
5:07 Impressive family.
“What if the Super Mario Brothers Super Show was an actual game?”
Then Vinesause would become the new canon VA for Mario and Luigi
I don’t think this show was running when I was born, but it was still a huge part of my childhood, so I’m glad to see this is happening
It’s so cool, but sad because Nintendo will just take it down
No they won't, Nintendo doesn't want to acknowledge the existence of the SMBSS
This game looks amazing and love that him and his family are working on it
I have DVDs of super mario Bros super show I love this show and i can watch it on netflix
I remember watching this show on Netflix, years ago. I really liked it, so hearing about a SMBSS game is amazing!
it always make me sad seeing fan game of nintendo property
cause we all know whats gonna hapoen nexy
Happen next*
I loved the show as a kid and still enjoy them now. This fan game has some great potential. Look forward to seeing how it pans out.
I hope Zero from “The Mask of Zero” is playable.
