All I can think is that because when you set an air conditioner to window demist, by default it sets the ac to the coldest setting which is with the compressor on.

Hold in AC button for 5 seconds
Hold the AC button for few seconds and it'll reset and start it....
Do you have to hit the button whilst your doing it or just the switch thing whilst it’s running?
Just turning the switch to the demist setting while running should force the AC to turn on.
Any idea what technically is happening that causes this to work?
