  • It's time for #DoctorG and no one is really interested in this #ayushmannkhurrana movie and that is a rarity when it comes to #bollywood movies recently. This social comedy focussing on male gynaecology and the skepticism around it is a mixed bag at best. I hope you like the Doctor G Movie Review & Analysis starring #rakulpreetsingh and #shefalishah as well

Although I only saw this movie to see Ayushman, most of my friends are doctors and MBBS students, therefore I felt that the narrative of the film was seriously faulty. We never felt odd being around so many men in the gynaecologist section. Instead, this movie portrays a very fallible version of reality: a powerful, retrograde India. Dude, In several instances, I felt like this movie was attempting to browbeat me into learning about something that isn't really a problem in reality-it isn't even a stigma. I'm not sure when Bollywood will realise that India is more developed and accepting than what is depicted in its movies; I know there are always opposing viewpoints, but these movies usually portray things in exaggerated ways.

As a Doctor going through the gruelling process of NEET PG counseling myself, I related with this movie a lot. All doctors have fondness for certain branches and an equal dislike for others, But many of them do end up compromising and find their true calling (including myself) . And for the record, I too had my share of "take gynae coz you are a woman doctor" and I absolutely dislike gynae. The actors and the director did a thorough research and were absolutely on point. Shefali Shah as the H.O.D of Gynae department was the shining star of this film for me. She was so convincing that she reminded me of my gynae HOD at college.
Ayushmann Khurrana embodied the quintessential dilemma of male doctors who have to work in Gynae department.
Last but not the least, the co-actors who portrayed the fellow doctors did an amazing job of showing the camaraderie between us doctors.
Also, "male female kya hota hai, doctor doctor hota hai" . Period.

The thing about Ayushmann Khurrana movies now is that earlier when they used to be subtle about social commentary like in Dum Laga ke Haisha or Vicky Donor or Shubh Mangal Savdhan where story's focus was never on the social issue but the character themselves who found themselves in a difficult position and we saw how they dealt with it whereas now i feel like social commentary comes first instead of the characters and the whole social messaging doesnt feels subtle but feels like the movie is shoving it down my throat...and i feel like both Rajkumar Rao and Ayushmann have been typecasted in such kind of roles and it saddens me to see that...both of them need to do more other kinds of movie, maybe more thrillers or horror or drama because even as a fan of both them i have become sick of the same kind of comedy these movies offer

Thats the problem i feel with the audience sometimes, when there are remakes then everyone is either boycotting them due to some very old statements made by the actors in some old interviews or just bash them stating "please bring something new" & when someone does bring something new, then they start ridiculing it by pointing out things like "this part of the film is the deal breaker even though it is small, but still it's a deal breaker" , "this theme is not pleasing at all" , "this stereotype does not exist, hence it is a third class performance" , "this does not happen at all in my premise, so it's not right to portray it like this" blah blah blah...
In the era of remakes, please start giving applause to something new if someone is trying to bring a fresh work in a refreshing perspective DEFINITELY EVERYTHING HAS ITS PROS AND CONS, NO DOUBT ABOUT IT & ITS COMPLETELY FINE TO TALK ABOUT IT, BUT DONT RIDICULE IT LIKE YOU DO WITH REMAKES🙏

As a doctor, I can say that there is literally no stigma against male gynecologists. Female urologists, female orthopedicians, female surgeons, even female physicians face a bigger stigma. Bollywood needs to start showing the struggle of female doctors rather than whatever this was. They legit have a movie about a goon becoming an mbbs, about an abusive bf becoming a surgeon and now this....but not one movie that highlights the difficulties faced by women doctors. We are constantly questioned about our competence by senior doctors, patients and nurses for no reason other than our gender. I even remember our first year anatomy hod saying that the boys in the class should study hard because the girls can even become housewives after mbbs but the boys can't do that. I have heard stories of female postgrads being asked to leave the room when a male patient is examined for scrotal hernia. But no such thing happens to males posted in gynecology. My male colleagues have delivered babies and stitched up episiotomies. They have shamelessly flaunted about how they can say "pants down" and female patients would strip infront of them. It's so disgusting. There are male gynecologists who still do the husband stitch which makes the vagina tighter after childbirth. The problem is that first they don't even ask the woman's permission and second this stitch makes coitus extremely extremely painful for the woman and third that they're literally sexualizing a woman who just delivered a baby. There is legit no stigma against male gynecologists even though many of them are disgusting and unprofessional and deserve the stigma.

I can see there are a lot of comments about the men studying gyn not being a stigma and I agree too, but in one of the scene Dr. Gupta clearly states that one of the reason why he did not want to be a gyn is because of patients being very hesitant to consult a male doctor and the career prospects. I am not sure if this point is not stressed enough in the movie or if its a personal bias of the viewers.
One of the thing I hate about the movie was the unnecessary chemistry shown between Dr Uday and Dr Fatima. Kissing a fellow batchmate when you art engaged and then expecting him to move on as if nothing happened. The extremely stupid scene where the fiancé of Dr Fatima comes up to Dr Uday to clarify what's going on between him and Dr Fatima and then moved on as if nothing happened. I saw a pic of a woman being in labour, that is obstetrics and not gynae..maybe he is an ob-gyn in the movie and not just a gynaecologist.
I am a medical student from Malaysia, and there are equal numbers of male and female in this speciality. Maybe in india its still a stigma

In India at least currently, obs and gynae is taught together and the degree is given as obs-gyn. The doctor may later pursue either or both branches. The separation of these two may happen in future.

I am a doctor and I have never seen a male doctor being excessively ashamed like this. there is not this much gender based segregation. I have worked with so many male Obgyn seniors.. never seen anyone being uncomfortable. to be honest, the competition is like hell in medical. so it's very normal to not get the desired speciality. and people do take subjects they don't like. most of them end up liking the department. few even leave midway and write exam again.. it's not that big deal.. I have worked in Gyn for 1 year after MBBS .... it is a very busy and hectic department. and.... they don't really hold classes for pg students like that... coz I don't know how much big is that hospital but there are hardly more than 10-12 pg in a batch maybe (for a particular speciality) . atleast for most of the institution. Any post MBBS person is more than happy to get a seat in any good field.. so... this is a little more dramatic than needed... but as a story, they wanted to create more impact so they just chose to make him hate the field maybe... but that shouldn't have to be coz of his gender. many medicos don't want Obgyn coz of hectic lifestyle (including me).
p.s. sorry for blabbering a lot...
( a post graduate 3rd year student who is wasting her exam prep time here on TH-cam 😂)

I didn't expect a South Indian stereotype in a 2022 movie, especially in an Ayushman movie.

to be honest, i believed this was a one time watch movie for when you have nothing else going on that evening, but the main problem i had was with the A rating. the movie's main and admittedly most interesting conflict is about a relationship between an underaged girl and a middle aged man, and how she ends up pregnant( and how our main character deals with it from his POV) . this is a topic that needs to be discussed with audiences 16 and above as they are they are the ones most vulnerable to such a possibility.

and the worst part is that uday does not face any proper consequence of his ignorance towards the grooming and his willingness for helping his friend out, i truly believe that if bollywood is 'not afraid' of talking about such topics and wants to show character development in the heros of their stories they should also not be afraid of showing actual consequences to a bad decision, uday's response and way of dealing with the situation was admittedly bad, just because the underage girl (who had gone through so much mentally and physically) thanks him for not letting her die does not mean he should be absolved of any consequence, the least should have been, him getting expelled if not being punished for the crime in court along with his friend as an (accomplice)

I think no one knows what will work at the box office in the current scenario ,Bhool bhulaiya being a below average film became a smash hit and if you look closely on kartik filmography he more or less do same kind of roles (except dhamaka),However when you are successful nothing really matters , same goes with ayushman I guess he was successful back then so no one really cared pretty much sums up the human mentality including me. My personal opinion is that kartik should get same criticism what ayushman is getting and both are valid considering what ott is offering us.

when i saw rakulpreet in trailer with that spank dialogue and weird dance steps i got the idea that again she'll be doing same atmoshpheric role.
dont know why she's given roles when there's no need.
i wonder do these actors watch there old videos/movies and analyze have they grown or not or just watch how good looking they are now as compared to their early days.

Hi Jammy bro, I'd recently watched the Zee5 tamil crime Web series "Vilangu"
Awesome screenplay with typical rural setting with clear visualisation of the life of a rural cop & how a murder crime executed & police gets the corpus. But later "the Head" Of the corpus goes missing & how the Protagonist played by "Vimal" handles the case with twists & turns are being narrated in this series.
Recommend you that you will enjoy the 7-episode series, each with 30mins duration.
Let us know your opinion about this masterpiece

Maybe an OTT release would have suitrd this movie . With Vikram Vedha , Bramhastra out in theatres, movies with social message will obviously feel boring.

Well the movie is a gem among Ayushmans genre as it showcases a doctor in a position that portrays more of a realistic view how the medical field professionals moves about, rather than following romantic idealism shown in movies like Kabir Singh.

As an MBBS student I was very irritated when the film made the "tatti peshab" joke on pathologists... it sounds very hypocritical that they are trying to glorify something and at the same time you don't respect other things that are equally as valuable and important... Moreover, I found the concept of the movie to be very hypothetical. Obgyn is considered as a prestigious and fulfilling option by a lot of male doctors. They are trying to point an issue that doesn't exist. It feels like they have a solution looking for a problem 😕. You can't sell a movie like that. Overall, the movie is far from relatable and over dramatic.

The very irony of the censor board giving the movie an A rating and reiterating the point the movie has tried to make about taboo reagrding that ascpect of women's health lmao

Yep there is wierd censorship around women's health when it involves breast/vagina.
Doctors cannot even release content which may help women identify symptoms.
All they put out are drawings which God knows who can understand
