The Panoz DP01 was a looker, so elegant

So fast too. It beat the Toyota F1 car at the Laguna Seca raceway. I was so pissed that indycar didn't use the DP01 when it unified. I didn't watch or care for indycar from 2008 to 2011 when they were racing the crapwagons. Today, the current Dallara looks awesome and performs really well. I'm happy now :)

pity it was utter garbage in traffic, too much aero push and the tuned down engine made the draft all but useless

@@captainjosue Why would they have used the Panoz? They didn't "merge", CCWS was just "absorbed" by the IRL. There was no reason at all to use their cars.
Why would the IRL risk taking these cars to Indy when they didn't even know if they would give a great product on ovals? Sure, Panoz had plans to adapt these to ovals but they were never properly tested because CCWS wasn't planning on racing ovals after 2005 anymore, excluding Milwaukee whom was just sitting out its contract in 2006.
Also, they were very much flawed. Almost no team had exactly the same car since there were a lot of production issues. These cars were literally like Ikea furniture were holes are missing, too many holes, bent parts,... A few teams even reported wing parts were not always the same dimensions when they got them.
This car was a joke so once again, why would the IRL have adopted these?
Adding to this, plans for a new chassis (DW12) were already in place so why force teams to use a new car for only 3 years?

@@Yoshiman2024 Because the DP01 was a much better car performance wise and looks wise than the IRL cars. The DP01 was faster than the Toyota F1 car at Laguna Seca. The DP01 was an engineering marvel at the time and that's why I was upset they didn't use it. Today, the new Dallara chassis that is currently used is awesome and looks amazing!!!

It feels great that IndyCar uploaded this race because Sebastien Bourdais made it three in a row at the track with the win. It also meant that they uploaded both Champ Car races that NBC televised in 2007 with the other being in Las Vegas.

It's crazy this indycar season. It's all come down to the last race. Who would have thought Long Beach as the season finale. I'll be there too and wish it was today. I'm going for Pato but I understand it's a long shot

🌴 Long Beach, brilliant, miles better than Monaco as a racing spectacle. Race start 🏁7:15. George Lucas should of used the force in the celebrate race.

CART was originally one series which split in 1996 when Tony George, the then owner of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, decided to form his own series, the Indy Racing League (IRL), which focused exclusively on ovals compared to CART's splitting between ovals, road and street circuits. The two series competed against each other, neither one being a stepping stone to the other, although drivers and teams did switch series as time went on, mostly defecting from CART. One ace that the IRL had up its sleeve over CART was the Indy 500.
CART went bankrupt in 2003 and was saved by a consortium of team owners who renamed the series Champ Car. The two series continued suffer from declining grids; in 2007 Champ Car only had 17 cars while in the IRL there were only two races outside of the Indy 500 which had more than 20 cars (the 500 had its usual 33 plus a couple who failed to qualify). The two series merged in 2008, creating the IndyCar series we know today.
