In my opinion they IndyCar should called this race off until following week in 99 especially Penske driver Rodriguez fatal practice crash R.I.P to Goncho. & Moore .
200 more horsepower, no assist systems, manual transmissions, and no run-offs. Miss this era (IndyCar is super competitive and exciting now too, though).
The shot of Jim Swintal clipping the flag to the flagstand and just standing there is one of those absolutely defining images of the 1999 season, sadly for the wrong reasons. Herta was crazy good at Laguna, really but as far as Gonchi goes, I'll point to Steve Olvey's book where he goes into detail about it. Also okay, nostalgia talking but there is just something about those Reynard chassis that made most paint schemes work. Even the Della Penna crew. Oh yes. Shiggy having his license revoked then 20 years later went on to be a tlte winning team owner in a whole other series though. I think that worked out for Shiggy, maybe?
Looks like the same pavement the series is racing on in 2021. Can anyone confirm that? I know this track is held in high regards but not a lot of passing opportunities here. If you don't qualify well, you're only chance is to go off strategy early and hope for a yellow that catches the leaders out.

R.I.P. Gonzalo. I have to say this era of Indy Car racing was the pinnacle of the series with so many talented drivers from around the world.
