You're not going to get to drive a supercharged Mustang with S tires on road surfaces with below freezing temperatures without wrapping it around the first solid object you see. Winters in NE Ohio are no joke and no way would you want to take out a nice ride with the amount of salt they drop on the roads here to keep them somewhat driveable.
@@iknklst yeah I get that, I live in Canada so I know the realities of winter driving and the hazards driving a powerful vehicle in poor conditions can be. I'm going out on a limb here but i believe 8 out of the 10 times a car goes into a crowd leaving a car meet its abs taking over to blame. If in any of those situations you were able to lock 4 tires up instantly and entirely.. the cars would slide to a quick stop. Thats what i believe. Abs is great for most people daily driving. But it is an almost guarantee to cause more damage rather than prevent any in the case of low vehicle speed wheel spin situations.
We gave a guy a loaner and got a call the next day about him driving 120mph through town and ran a guy on a motorcycle off the road. We tried calling him to get the car back but he never answered the phone. Finally got him to bring it back 3 days later after threatening to call the police and filing a stolen vehicle report. We have also had at least 4 totaled loaners in the last month and people complain that we don't "LOAN" them our cars anymore.
Used to work at a used car dealer years ago. We had a guy literally do a burnout in front of a city police car on a test drive, in a Dodge neon SRT. Needless to say, some people are idiots.

A video of some of the guys telling stories about the worst things or experiences the guys had to go through to get the sell of the car would be interesting definitely from Ed.
I'm thinking that he has enough experience selling cars that he know who to allow to test drive or not test drive a vehicle. Also, growing up in Upstate NY, I don't think it was unreasonable to not allow a person to test drive a performance car on a snow/ice covered road coated in road salt.
@@garys1266 there's no reason you can't test drive a car in snow reasonably. And I have enough experience buying cars to know if someone told me I couldn't test drive a car then they can find a new customer.

My Dad drove an early 60's Vette and his words were it drove and handled like a dump truck. My Dad raced super-stock and built his own race-cars so that kind of stuck with me. He said he had a friend he had one and he could outrun with some Ford because it handled the corners better than the Vette.
The weather conditions are also a factor though. And the guy obviously lacked manners and mechanical sympathy. Who thinks its ok to just be revving another mans car to redline in a parking lot and without asking?!
As a lot attendant I told a salesmen and a sales manager that a truck needed gas before the test drive. That the truck just got through the PDI and was completely empty. 15km max. Truck ram out of gas and I had to bring them gas. Still laugh about it
I'm almost certain shortly before the filming of this video he had just learned what acquiesced meant because he uses the word like 3 different times 😆
Test drives are a common thing, even with exotics, so if you aren’t going to allow someone to test drive your vehicle (which is fine) you’d be better off letting people know ahead of time instead of acting kind of like a douche and “being surprised” that someone would dare want to drive before they buy. 🙄
That’s something I was thinking. Not allowing a test drive is ok, but it’s definitely not ok to assume they’ll know they can’t test it when they’re flying out just to see it. Nobody is gonna fly out to see a car when they can’t drive it
I'm surprised that Doug is surprised that people expect to be allowed to test drive a potential car purchase. There's no way I would buy any car without test driving it first. A test drive is not simply to see if you like the way a car drives & handles, it's also to determine if it has any mechanical defects.
I think he is against test drives during winter time because black ice and have some stranger drive your tuned car let alone a tuned mustang then id be hesitant too. You know how your car is gonna feel better than anyone but others won’t. That’s why Matt Farrah is one of my favorite car journalist because dude has drove hundreds of strangers turned cars only ever one accident which cause it was raining.
I've never driven an expensive car, but I did see the result of another person's test drive of a brand new Viper. The dealership is across a ravine with a wide bridge from the highway to the dealer. The highway is a very busy 4 lane in the city. My guess is that he'd never driven a Viper and just stomped on the pedal to pull out in traffic. The Viper just spun around in 180 degree loop ending up in the ravine! When I came by, a very nice Viper was standing nearly vertically nose first in the ravine with a bunch of concerned people milling around scratching their heads. I'm guessing he didn't buy the car.
I had a customer damn near flip a used Mini Countryman. I was scared shitless. I’m a Chevy salesman and never really had someone full send a camaro or Vette with me.
I'd love to hear some stories about deals that the seller/dealer either sabotaged or outright cancelled because the idea of having to face the buyer on any recurring timeline was intolerable 😁😂
I test drove a PT Cruiser 5sp GT from a private seller one time. Having bought a new 2004 PT cruiser non GT, we loved everything about the car except it was SLOW! I'm test driving many GT's to find the right one, and my lord this one was FAST! I never did find what they had done to the car, but I never really looked either, but something was different. I took the owner for the ride of his life because I wanted to test it at the limits! I felt the need to apologize to the owner after the drive which I did, and we bought the car!😅👍✌🗽
Sorry Doug - no f’ing chance I ever buy a car without driving it first lmao - also I completely understand your Hesitation on letting someone drive a car on cold wet roads in the middle of winter 😆
I had two of your stories happen to me, on the same car, one on my purchase, the other when I was selling it. Joe Catrona's Quality Used Cars sold me on a warranty for the 1973 GrandAm I was buying from his lot back in '77. I wanted an automatic, but this car had a 4-speed and I am lazy. I was told the warranty covers the entire drivetrain, even the clutch and so I could not refuse the car. 1 month in and I'd ruined the clutch and made him change it for the labor. Selling the car 2 years later, a high school kid snapped the countershaft buy continually starting out in 3rd gear. Had to take out a loan to pay off the loan to be able sell it. Karma, or is it Carma?
Doug, the dealership at the motorsports country club in Nevada sounds like a great idea. Was it just the track time that made it not a viable business idea for your dealership?
On the cobra guy, you don’t allow a test drove, but deal with a client after a sale? I’m guessing reviews.. but as is where is don’t know what you gonna do the minute after you bounce.
I’m not gonna try to compare myself to this gentleman but i have sold a decent amount of cars over the years from 500 junkers to higher end pleasure vehicles, you need to be upfront for example 1) if you don’t allow test drives you have to say that up front before they come 2) if the car needs any safety type items Such as tires, brakes suspension repair fix it before you sell or let someone drive the car 3) if it’s a high end car either say no test drives without cash in hand or say you will take them for a ride but you do that right off the rip 4) if it’s a motorcycle or dirt bike no test rides at all doesn’t matter if they have a motorcycle license or not. Seen a lot of bikes get dropped and wrecked from inexperienced people. Never assume people are in the same wave length that you are just because you won’t drive your 500 horse power Buick grand national in a snow storm doesn’t mean they won’t want to if your trying to sell it to them!

Yeah, I completely agree. I understand the supercar in the winter and such, but I would also ask to drive it.
Totally agree, weather permitting!
I still believe though that the seller should make it a bit more clear that a test drive is not possible, rather than believing it is implied. To be honest, I think that Doug comes off as quite a big dick in his story and if he were to act in the same manner to me if I were potentially purchasing one of his vehicles, I don’t think I’d do business with him.
Wtf “ you think I’ll get head in this car” 😂 😂
Not being able to test drive a car is a deal breaker for me. Its like buying perfume without smelling it before ;)
Yea I could understand not driving the vette in the heart of a winter storm and/or salt covered roads. Makes sense. But questioning why a customer would want to test drive a pretty normal car like a mustang? Sounds like a hard way to sell cars
@@richardp444
[Sounds like a hard way to sell cars ...]
The conditions weren't 100% and the guy wasn't respecting the car from the beginning. It was the right call.
@@richardp444 A supercharged Mustang in winter with icy conditions. That's quite a difference than just any mustang in any summer conditions.
Would you buy a car without test driving it?
No, that’s like buying a house without walking through it
Yes, if the car doesn't drive
My dad bought the Cayman in my pfp from the Doug in this video. He didn't test drive the car until he hsd committed to buying it. He had driven other Cayman's in the past though beforehand
It all depends on the car
I bought my 2017 GT350 before test driving it. Best decision I ever made.
I like Doug’s stories so inquired on switch cars about selling one of our zo6 w 2500 miles and no reply! I know times were just getting crazy but a response could have been nice!
A video of some of the guys telling stories about the worst things or experiences the guys had to go through to get the sell of the car would be interesting definitely from Ed.
God I miss my 01 Mustang so much, massive nostalgia when showing the interior and under the hood.
Of course mine wasn't nearly as nice lol
How many crowds did you crash into while you had it?
The mustang customer sounds like my dad 🤣
I love that Orange widebody beetle that was in the dealership window at 0:30
GT3 RS NOT BEETEL
@@matthewscarborough2597 Nope that’s a beetle!
It is pretty unreasonable to expect someone to buy a car they can't test drive.
@@drewcaptian3127 OK we'll agree to disagree, but we aren't talking about a Toyota Camry here. We are talking about cars that most people won't drive in rain let alone on a salty winter road after they buy it.
@@garys1266 its clear you've not bought many cars just stay in your lane.
@@drewcaptian3127 Oh OK...
4:00 I'm disagreeing with Ed, if I drive 2 hours to check out a car that I want to buy, you better let me test the thing if you actually want to sell it.
Lol this isn’t Ed
I'm guessing the average buyer for that kind of car understand the reasons for not allowing a test drive in those conditions.
If you're serious about buying and want to test drive, you should also know that you won't have a proper drive in less than ideal conditions.
For the average car yes. But in circumstances it is not always proper. Especially the winter during snow seasons.
Normally people don't ask when they think the answer is no.. my experience selling motorcycles people want joyride everything and want to ignore everything you say
My Dad drove an early 60's Vette and his words were it drove and handled like a dump truck. My Dad raced super-stock and built his own race-cars so that kind of stuck with me. He said he had a friend he had one and he could outrun with some Ford because it handled the corners better than the Vette.
The C1 Vette rides on a shortened '49 Chevy chassis.
When you're in your GT3 while your prospect spins the car, put it in neutral
Imagine thinking that someone coming in from out of state isn't going to want to test drive an expensive used mustang.
The weather conditions are also a factor though. And the guy obviously lacked manners and mechanical sympathy. Who thinks its ok to just be revving another mans car to redline in a parking lot and without asking?!
Is it me or does this guy always act like he is the smartest guy in the room?
As a lot attendant I told a salesmen and a sales manager that a truck needed gas before the test drive. That the truck just got through the PDI and was completely empty. 15km max.
Truck ram out of gas and I had to bring them gas.
Still laugh about it
He said he didn't pass the vibe' check lmao
"Think I'll get head in this?" totally missed the chance to respond with "If you're not careful driving it, you'll lose your head in it"
Usually missed chances in this context involve something clever or witty.

I'm almost certain shortly before the filming of this video he had just learned what acquiesced meant because he uses the word like 3 different times 😆
I'm assuming the Crook shirt is in reference to all the people you screwed over when you were younger.
The getting here question is definitely valid because that is one of the requirements I have for buying a car so I totally understand him
Test drives are a common thing, even with exotics, so if you aren’t going to allow someone to test drive your vehicle (which is fine) you’d be better off letting people know ahead of time instead of acting kind of like a douche and “being surprised” that someone would dare want to drive before they buy. 🙄
That’s something I was thinking. Not allowing a test drive is ok, but it’s definitely not ok to assume they’ll know they can’t test it when they’re flying out just to see it. Nobody is gonna fly out to see a car when they can’t drive it
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE 👍🤓🇺🇸
He knows the tires are dangerous and useless and yet he leaves them on the car?! Sounds like a reputable dealership to me...
If you think I'm going to spend 50 100 200k on a car and not test drive you can get bent lol
"Harumph harumph" "Hey I didn't get a harumph out of that guy!" "You watch your ass"

I love how Doug always tells his stories wearing boxer shorts
Sounds like he DID buy it!
I have some of those. Problem is those non-buyers likely watch the channel and they know who they are.
@@switchcars As entertaining as it would be, you're right. Not worth the fallout.
"You see son. You gotta get the RPM up to OVER 99000!"

Love Doug's taste in cars. Big Porsche GT guy it seems. A 997.2 GT3 RS is on my bucket list. That silver 996 GT3 shown is gorgeous too 😍
I wonder if the "CROOK" shirt comes from the same company that did Doug's "SHIRT" shirt.
Do you have any Red 944s that would make it back to Long Island?
Why's Doug wearing boxers tho ahahahah
Never, ever buy a car that they won’t let you test drive.
Never realized this aspect of it i guess its a point where its too expensive to drive if you havent paid for it yet
Love your channel and what you do

My favorite person on Vin wiki :)
Funny that you mentioned Pahrump, Nevada I'm going to visit family today.
Well i have to say I might have some better car sales nightmares .....much better , these are very tame lol
Is it just me or is Doug getting a bit more buff these days. Lookin vascular my guy. Keep up the great stories, always nice content.

Doug, the dealership at the motorsports country club in Nevada sounds like a great idea. Was it just the track time that made it not a viable business idea for your dealership?
Isn’t that currently tavarishes turbo?
I'm from Michigan. Nobody buys cars here without driving them for very good reason. Lots and lots of lemons in the North.
On the cobra guy, you don’t allow a test drove, but deal with a client after a sale? I’m guessing reviews.. but as is where is don’t know what you gonna do the minute after you bounce.
I burst out laughing at the comment on the '63 Corvette. It drives terribly and if you test drive it, you won't want to buy it!
I’m not gonna try to compare myself to this gentleman but i have sold a decent amount of cars over the years from 500 junkers to higher end pleasure vehicles, you need to be upfront for example
1) if you don’t allow test drives you have to say that up front before they come
2) if the car needs any safety type items Such as tires, brakes suspension repair fix it before you sell or let someone drive the car
3) if it’s a high end car either say no test drives without cash in hand or say you will take them for a ride but you do that right off the rip
4) if it’s a motorcycle or dirt bike no test rides at all doesn’t matter if they have a motorcycle license or not. Seen a lot of bikes get dropped and wrecked from inexperienced people.
Never assume people are in the same wave length that you are just because you won’t drive your 500 horse power Buick grand national in a snow storm doesn’t mean they won’t want to if your trying to sell it to them!
exactly this is the smartest thing u do thing according to my inner gut I do the same exactly in any situation and my gut never ever let me down
