I was born and raised in Hillsboro, OR and every Summer, my Dad would take us camping up and down the Coast but, we never once stopped at Seal Rock. When my wife and I went on our Honeymoon in Newport, we stopped at every State Park we could and when we stopped at Seal Rock at about 8:30am and walked up the trail, it opened up to the most beautiful scene there! The Sun had just reached up over the hills behind us and cast an orange glow onto the rocks. We only had a small camera but, the pictures were fantastic! On my next visit, I will make sure to have a panoramic camera because THAT shot will be phenomenal!
3 years later still wondering what happens to that camera. Strongest cliff hanger ... Any updates Nick my therapist says I haven’t emotionally recovered from seeing that drop
When your camera detached it sent a shiver through me, same thing happened to me over rocks on a mountain side. 10 ft drop but my Nikon d810 still worked
Nick I use my joby wrist strap. By slipping the strap around the quick release mount, if the camera falls off the plate your camera will not hit the ground. I learned by the hard too. Good luck on your camera and I love your work and TH-cam videos.
When your camera, fell into the sand and sea water, I really felt bad because I did the exact same thing a couple of years back at Arches N.P. I was Standing on the sidewalk at Park Avenue, and unlatched the brand new camera and lens without first latching onto them with my hand! The tripod was fully extended when the camera and lens fell on to the concrete. Thank goodness for the lens shade. It went into about a hundred pieces but it prevented any damage to the lens or the camera. I watch a lot of your vids. Very pro. Keep it up.
I really like this video. I watch and follow a lot of photographers from "across the pond" where they do a lot like this. I hope you will continue to do more like this. A person can learn a lot and become inspired by videos like this. Thanks, I enjoyed it.
If you can find a craft store like Michael's they sell silica for drying flowers. You would need to wrap your camera in paper towels and tape it around the seams so the silica doesn't get inside any slots etc. But it works! It usually takes about 24 to 48 hours to dry things out though. It's worth a shot. Good luck!!!
brilliant video, i shouted when the camera nosedived, hope it survived, what a photogenic country you live in, Oregon looks just awesome, keep up the good work
When I do shots near the ocean, I also carry a small bottle of Distilled Water with me just in case my camera takes a nose dive into the water and sand. I can used the water to rinse of the sand and salt, and then use my towel to dry everything off. It's a good fix until you can get home and really clean things out.
Love your channel nick! Have you ever thought about doing a video focusing on how you choose your composition? Especially how you decide what to leave out. I think it would be really interesting to see how you think through this
Loved this video Nick! I'm going to the coast this month and I'm even more excited now thanks to you. Hope the rice did the trick! Please let us know!!
Wow! I just discovered your channel today and I've been hooked all afternoon! I live in Portland and have been looking for others to get out and shoot with. Would love to get out and shoot some landscapes some time!
Really nice one dude ! I love the way your drone shots tells a story and is not just "yeah I got this 2000$ drone I need to put it in the air whenever I can" wich is whats happening on 70% of photography channels nowadays...
fantastic video, I hope your camera was ok, I really can't wait to get down there someday myself and I loved the touch screen, maybe it's time for an upgrade from my 6D
Great video as always! So many cool locations in Oregon. I plan on heading up either next week or the following. I hope you got your camera working again :) the drone footage in this video was great!
11 o'clock in the afternoon? Doesn't Afternoon mean AFTER noon? Haha just giving you a hard time. Keep up the awesome work, you are my photography idol! Hope your camera wakes up!!!
Beautiful shots of the stacks! Hope you you were able to revive the camera! I'm coming to Oregon in August. Love to get a list of great locations to shoot from you if you're willing to share some.
Nick sorry to see your camera take a fall man that sucks. I just wanted to warn you of a similar situation I was in. I had a 7d Mark II that fell into some water and Canon said they will not work on a camera with evidence of water damage. So I tried a third party repair facility and got the same response this time with a bit more explanation. They said corrosion in the camera may continue to grow over time and your camera could malfunction again and they are not able to warranty their repairs. That said I looked at Canon's web site and saw I could order parts so I bought a whole new back panel and LCD screen and fixed it myself for like $140. The camera is still working great 2 years later. If you need anymore info reach out I'm happy to try and help if you need.
Another great video and location. Off subject question: on a video for Improve Photography, you said you had switched to Squarespace and you mentioned something that sounded like Pass that you use with it. What is that?
ah man, hope your camera is ok. I love these types of videos though! Taking us on a journey to hunt for photos. This video was awesome and we appreciate the effort put in! Looking forward to the next one!
I - always - keep a strap on my camera and the strap around my neck. When I put the camera on the tripod, only after I - know - it is securely clamped on the tripod do I use the quick-release buckle to free the strap from the camera. When I'm ready to release the camera, I re-connect the strap - first. Why am I obsessive like this? Don't ask. :) As they say, you can learn from the mistakes of others, or you can be one of the others. Thanks for the courage to show your accident Nick.
Exactly what I was thinking. Granted, salt water is a lot more damaging than fresh, but, if a drop into such a shallow bit of water is enough to render the 5DOA, it doesn’t say much for its purported weather sealing.
I remember being at Seal Rock at low tide when a Spring storm was coming onshore. The waves would blast into the rocks and get stopped. It was freaky and scary to stand on the land side of the rocks and watch the 20 ft waves heading at you only to have the rocks block them. Was it a little foolish? Probably, but the rocks seemed to be blocking the waves pretty consistently.
Hi Nick, Great video -again - I really enjoy and get inspiration - sorry about the camera - had a similar experience years ago by a creek in Norway - I just watched my tripod fall into that creek - with camera attached !!! Hope your camera is ok! BTW! Noticed that you only bring two lenses ? the 16-35 and the 70-300? Don't you ever bring a mid range zoom such as the 24-70?
Hey Nick, I am heading to Oregon coast next month. What are some of your favorite places to shoot, other than the obvious ones. Haystack, thors well etc... ? As always, Great video!
Only Nick Page can turn a disastrous day into an epic collection of photos. I hope the camera recovered. Sorry if you mentioned this before but I'm wondering what kind of drone you are using for the overhead shots. Great image quality. Thanks, Nick!
Hi nick i saw your interview with photography TV, in that interview about photo retouching, you told it is better use exposure blending in photoshop instead of put down highlights (-100) and raise up shadows (+100) in Lightroom because lot of details will be lost from noise introduction (if i remember good). So i ask you if you have time, please can you make a video about this, you take a photo and retouch it with photoshop and with lightroom and show the differences if any about the two softwares. I ask this because a lot of others photographers use this method on landscapes, telling also that doesn't always use them at 100%. I use often lightroom and i ask you if instead of using hightlights and shadows in the basic panel (at that level 100%) i use a brush and locally (on portion of the photo) i change that i get the same results that i will get with exposure blending in photoshop ? If yes, please again make a video about it. Thanks for your work, i really appreciate that you and others photography do for us (i follow also Thomas Heaton, Antony Morganti, Serge Ramelli and so on). Also i'm interested to know if you use Lightroom maybe together Photoshop to retouch your photos or you only use Photoshop.
thanks to you and the time you spend on us, i really appreciate your and other photographers work. I spend more time seeing your videos than shooting, i think the best thing to do is going out to shot photos, always or when someone has time, i hardly can get out at sunrise or sunset, but sometimes i don't do it because time is not so good or bad sky or ... I found always something to don't get out to shot photos and prefer to see what others do. I'm happy you take my idea and i will wait for your video, i prefer use only one software and for now i use lightroom only and would like to see if it is powerful enough on exposure blending like photoshop. Thanks again for your time.
Good stuff Nick. When you're by yourself, how do you get the drone shots of you driving? I'm going on a road trip soon and just bought a drone. Tips???
Haha! You're awesome my friend, thanks. I'm literally editing another video for my channel to feature you tonight! I'm doing a composite of your and Thomas Heaton's best tips from each of your interviews. Back to editing. Cheers Nick!
Nice video! I love your personable style. I'm heading to Oregon for a few day and am curious about where that witch hat looking sea stack is? And also want to know if your camera survived? The suspense is killing me!
Had the same "drop" experience (4 feet) on concrete! Tamron 70-300mm lens destroyed (Tamron replaced the total focus barrel!, minimal cos. KUDOS!!!), Nikon 7100 minor scratches.
I shoot at Seal Rock often since I live nearby, and have been thwarted too many times by the "marine layer", but also by the legs of my tripod quickly sinking into the sand if the tripod legs are in the water. Do you have a method you use to prevent or slow that from happening? Great video also!
Nick, perfect timing, we are headed for Bandon & Cape Blanco next week. Hope your camera survived. Did you soak it in fresh water to remove any traces of salt before drying it with rice? Excellent video. Subscribed.
Hi Nick! Great work of yours! A little hint! I always have a thin strong strap / string attached to my camera, aprox 20cm loop hooked up in one of the camera strap holders! Easy and quick to put over your ballhead ;) Merry Christmas! (^_^(
Nick!!! I'm glued to these now my dude. How many hours does it take to make and get all these shots? Holy crap man... My guess is maybe 10 hours? So much work, but so much fun to watch.
A big luck that the camera fall off from this low position, think you if the camera fall from the normal high? maybe the rice there wouldn't be enough. Great channel.
Oh no! I hope the camera makes it. It brought back memories of when I totalled my Nikon D800 and iPhone recently in one storm. £3,000 worth of gear. In case you're interested here's the link to the video of the trip when it happened. th-cam.com/video/19YLqY8sGVo/w-d-xo.html

Oh, an if you get sand on your lens, don't wipe it off...that's the perfect way to ruin a lens. Dry the camera and lense and blow the sand off...then you can clean the lens.
I nominate this for video of the year award
I was born and raised in Hillsboro, OR and every Summer, my Dad would take us camping up and down the Coast but, we never once stopped at Seal Rock. I did 25 days on the Or coast this past fall. Brings back great memories.
Joy and sadness mixed like in al those best epic stories... Life... Good luck and thank you.
Sorry about the camera! Thanks for putting these together, made my day as I sit here under yet another round of Spring thundershowers and rain.
You are the man Nick, really cool to see you making these videos!
Thanks Nick, love Bandon and need to spend more time on the beach there, since I live on the coast!
Who else flinched when he dropped his camera?
ME.
3 years later still wondering what happens to that camera. Strongest cliff hanger ... Any updates Nick my therapist says I haven’t emotionally recovered from seeing that drop
Nice video. I love those leaves! sharp eyes , Nick!
When your camera detached it sent a shiver through me, same thing happened to me over rocks on a mountain side. 10 ft drop but my Nikon d810 still worked
Nick, Love the videos man. Rob here from Nova Scotia. Landscape photographer as well. Enjoy your videos. Keep on shooting man!

Even my Hasselblad has a camera strap and it never leaves the tripod. I use it exactly the way you use your wrist strap.

Great video, Nick!
There drone car footage was a nice touch
+gr8 photography it's crazy hard to fly and drive at the same time!
I thought you brought the wifey along to drive? That was you driving + flying? omg... lol. You're insane, in a good way.
Merci de partager tes expériences et tes connaissances.
Photos exceptionnelles
Man I jumped when that fell. Great images
Am getting towels before my Canadian photography trip in June!
Love your channel nick! Have you ever thought about doing a video focusing on how you choose your composition? Especially how you decide what to leave out. I think it would be really interesting to see how you think through this
Sweet production mate, appreciate the effort you put in to bring these great videos to us, Great images
Those are stunning locations! Thanks
Loved this video Nick! I'm going to the coast this month and I'm even more excited now thanks to you. Hope the rice did the trick! Please let us know!!
Nice work again liking the Mavic Pro drone I take it work to.

Great video as always! So many cool locations in Oregon. I plan on heading up either next week or the following. I hope you got your camera working again :) the drone footage in this video was great!
Don't leave us hanging Nick! Did the life giving power of white rice of resuscitate the camera?
11 o'clock in the afternoon? Doesn't Afternoon mean AFTER noon? Haha just giving you a hard time. Keep up the awesome work, you are my photography idol! Hope your camera wakes up!!!

Great to see you out and about shooting again, you're one of the best I've seen. Fantastic locations, gorgeous images. Hope your camera survived 😒

Great video, but for the love of God Nick, don't leave us hanging...Did the camera survive?
answer this man's question Nick.
Godamnit you spoilered me
Hope the rice works! great shot.
I've missed so much your "On the field" video!!!
Let us know about your camera please..
Great as Always!
the photo in 14:43 is brilliant composition
Thanks Nick.
Does rice out of the bag have a bunch of dust that can seep into the camera body?
Isn't the 5D MkIV weather sealed well? Didn't look like it got soaked badly. Hopefully it'll survive.
Exactly what I was thinking. Granted, salt water is a lot more damaging than fresh, but, if a drop into such a shallow bit of water is enough to render the 5DOA, it doesn’t say much for its purported weather sealing.
Great video with some amazing images. Hope your camera survived 😕

at around 10:28, you say avoid using filters to reduce lens flare. But with the reflective water, would a polarizer have been helpful?
Hi Nick, Great video -again - I really enjoy and get inspiration - sorry about the camera - had a similar experience years ago by a creek in Norway - I just watched my tripod fall into that creek - with camera attached !!! Love your vids. Hanging for the next one. F11 for a straight on shot like that? You could've shot that at F4
Only Nick Page can turn a disastrous day into an epic collection of photos. I hope the camera recovered. Sorry if you mentioned this before but I'm wondering what kind of drone you are using for the overhead shots. Great image quality. Thanks, Nick!

Ide wish ya luck but this was three years ago lol... Great vid as usual buddy
Good stuff Nick. When you're by yourself, how do you get the drone shots of you driving? I'm going on a road trip soon and just bought a drone. Tips???
+PhotographyTV well... you fly and drive at the same time lol .... kids don't try this at home... The follow me Feature's work pretty well as well
Haha! You're awesome my friend, thanks. I'm literally editing another video for my channel to feature you tonight! I'm doing a composite of your and Thomas Heaton's best tips from each of your interviews. Back to editing. Cheers Nick!
oh man.. me and thomas heaton in the same video... they said it couldn't be done! looking forward to it!
Great pictures - I hope the camera revived. I feel your pain!
Hi Nick. Great work. Why do you not us a lens hood.
most of the time I do.. I was just working quick this time and forgot.. in hindsight I wish I had it on!
Great video as normal Nick. Hows the camera doing? Did it come back to life?
Nice video! I love your personable style. I'm heading to Oregon for a few day and am curious about where that witch hat looking sea stack is? And also want to know if your camera survived? The suspense is killing me!
Hey Nick, what L plate do you use? and does it block the usb and remote jacks?
Had the same "drop" experience (4 feet) on concrete! Tamron 70-300mm lens destroyed (Tamron replaced the total focus barrel!, minimal cos. KUDOS!!!), Nikon 7100 minor scratches.

The trick is 1 use spikes on your feet, 2 with that first wave, push the tripod down as deep as you can, the next wave won’t move it
@@NickPage Thanks, I will definitely try that!
how did the dry out go?
Nick!!! I'm glued to these now my dude.
How many hours does it take to make and get all these shots? Holy crap man... My guess is maybe 10 hours? So much work, but so much fun to watch.
Great video Nick, but I sure do hope your camera survived!
Nick, thats an amazing video! Love it! Keep it up and good luck for your MK4! (drone footage quality lacks behind, unfortunately...)
btw...it is a pain, but I always use those $2 camera baggies when at beacbes.
A big luck that the camera fall off from this low position, think you if the camera fall from the normal high? maybe the rice there wouldn't be enough.
Great channel.
Sorry about your camera, I hope it's alright.
Hope the Camera survived....
Nice images..
Used to walk the beach in Bandon at sunrise.
In Mendocino there's a marine layer nearly every day - literally
Did the rice work ???
Ate you sure you didn’t get lower so the camera had less distance to fall?
Upgraded the rig i see.
Dam I almost cried when camera fell down
next whats in bag video needs to include a set of clothes and shoes with a big towel
Great to have the courage to show red, i.e. show the bad besides the good of your photography adventures - camera de-latched. :(
My favorite shot is of Howling Dog! Hope the camera survived!
+Patricia Davidson thanks! I'm determined to get a good low tide sunset in your neck of the woods!
I follow a lot of TH-cam photography Influencers, and the production value and interest you are creating is easily better than anyone else. I myself really appreciate the transitional stuff you're doing to tell a more complete story of your video. Adam at First Man Photography is doing similar work, but not at your level.
I cried!
Nick, please don't use rice! It will make it so the next time your camera gets wet it acts like a sponge. I've learned the hard way with a phone. It works at first, but long term it can be detrimental.
Awesome video, very inspiring. I hope the 5D wakes up for you.
we all need the address to send the get well cards to for the camera
you have to tell us how it is you cant leave us hanging.
if it dies you will have to have a service for it
Just dunk the camera in the surf to rinse off the sand. That should work! 😏
As Professor Nielsen stated in Photo 101....you might think it's a strap....but it's actually an insurance policy. Now you know why.
Oh, an if you get sand on your lens, don't wipe it off...that's the perfect way to ruin a lens. Dry the camera and lense and blow the sand off...then you can clean the lens.
Kinda depressing at the end with the camera being buried in rice with the sad music. Hope your camera's okay. Nice pictures btw.
🔥❤️🔥❤️
rice ..... majestic as fuq
Cracked my brand new Nikon 14-24 on the first day of shooting Lake Quinault. Not secured to the head...
Ooops. Lucky the tripod wasn’t in deeper water
