    I flew on CA Pacific on their evening flight back the CLD on Thursday, 11/1. Three of the Vallas Family were on board including 97-year-old Ted Vallas. I flew back the next morning (11/2) with a little fan-fare with some execs of CA Pacific present. We took off CLD on time with 18 people on board. We had a water-cannon salute upon arrival with the press and airport officials meeting the flight, which included a ribbon-cutting. It was a very nice experience!

    I’m in the UK we have loads of these aircraft.I flew from Manchester to Glasgow on one once with only 8 people onboard which included 2 pilots I stewardess.You were lucky to get away on that aircraft in the uk no running water and no flushing toilet would have resulted in no takeoff 🛫.

    I’m very happy to see this airline get its first review :) I’m hoping to do one soon too.
    One thing I do note, you seem to be a bit harsh toward them. It’s only their first couple days of operation. Sit back, relax, and enjoy experiencing a brand new airline with the first trip report out on TH-cam! Not many people can say they published the first ever trip report of an airline. I think they look amazing and as I’m based out of Denver I believe I’ll be doing some flights with them.

  • @AlbanyAviation2951751

    8:03 that is called a static takeoff I believe. Pilots usually do it on shorter runways. They hold the brakes as they put the throttle up to full. Then they release the brakes and the plane instantly moves fast :)

    • @jasonmoors1191
      @jasonmoors1191 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      While I didn't experience a static takeoff on American Eagle ORD-CWA some years ago,my first ever flight on a ERJ impressed me with the takeoff--those engines have some serious kick in 'em and yes,you are pushed into the seat!

    • @danalamborn4464
      @danalamborn4464 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's called a high-performance takeoff.

    • @adsmith122
      @adsmith122 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      you are correct; static takeoff due to shorter runways, heavier aircraft weight, hot days due to density and in some cases wanting/needing the engines to stabilize rotation speed

    There is a restaurant located at the Carlsbad airport no more than 40' from the terminal. According to what I read on their website (The Landings) they don't open until 7:30 AM. You can see the restaurant at 6:30 to the side of the left engine. On another note, I really wish Cal Pacific would start advertising. I want them to succeed.

    Airline needs to market more (I never see ads for them). I'm a socal based flyer but I live in San Diego (about 20min from SAN) so unlikely i would drive up the 5 just to fly to SJC, although you would have to deal with crummy T1 since AS and WN both use T1 for SJC flights. CLD looks like a small but very nice, functional airport, you probably don't have to take out a second mortgage to pay for parking at CLD either. I hope this airline makes it given how many people live in north county, too bad they sold their E170 that they had originally planned to use, much nicer than a erj but probably too expensive to lease.

    Cal Jet continued service from Carlsbad to Las Vegas until April 18, 2018. They told media that they were ceasing operations at that time to restructure their business plan. Their plan was to have non-stop, daily flights from Palomar Airport in Carlsbad to Oakland, San Jose, Phoenix, Sacramento and Las Vegas. Once the aircraft were acquired and supporting operations were in place, Cal Jet planned to restart service. However, as of December 2019, the airline's website continued to report that its operations remained suspended. Their website is offline as of June 2019. Cal Jet's Twitter feed and Facebook page have not been updated since the April 2018 announcement. The suspension inconvenienced many passengers who enjoyed the convenience of flying out of McCellan Palomar Airport. sadly went out of business :( that didnt last long.

    As an airline enthusiast, I have been following this airline for years. I love the idea, and the area served. This airline sounds so amazing and i am extremely happy for Ted Vallas and his company. This sounds trivial, but do you think the runway size will hinder growth? If they wanna stay out west, then great, but expansion, like maybe to Dallas, Chicago, etc. may run into issues. Thoughts?

    • @adsmith122
      @adsmith122 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      runway size out of carlsbad? as of right now, absolutely not, the airport is under utilized as a commercial airport so they have plenty of run to create more time slots for departure and leaving ... getting into the bigger airports, I personally see as both positive and negative ... positive because they can provide niche services from northern san diego to those destinations without the hassle of SAN or LAX ... negative because "if" any of the big boys see them as a threat, they could initiate service to carlsbad as well beat them on price

    I looked into it a bit, and that isolated route between Denver and South Dakota is an EAS contract. I'd say that's a pretty smart move for them, since it will give them a stable source of income and a decent safety net while they try to expand. Though maybe it would be best to have Denver to Carlsbad route at some point to connect everything.

    Really amazed the FA said to put away ALL portable electronic devices before takeoff,surprised she didn't harass you during the taxiing out to the runway--if the load factor on today's flight is an indicator of what to expect,it doesn't look good for CP's future,clearly they didn't make any money on this run! I'm sure its too much to assume that they don't codeshare---too bad you couldn't connect with that HA A330--will you post footage back to Carlsbad?

    • @ITripReport
      @ITripReport  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel like that's SOP, as she also repeated the same phrase on the way back, I'm guessing she understands that there is no way devices can harm the aircraft. The return flight also had a low load factor, maybe their Denver routes make up for the loss on the Cali routes. I did not film the return flight, as there wasn't really anything different to film. Hopefully I'll fly HA soon !

    • @andresreyes5398
      @andresreyes5398 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They have a few essential air service routes which is pretty much free money from the federal government so I'm sure they have a few guaranteed streams of income

    • @emartinez2740
      @emartinez2740 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andresreyes5398 Still, on that jet I'm not sure they'll make their money back. It will certainly help with the hit though. Cape Air with their C402 does great since it's really operationally cheap and they get $30+ millions every year in the program

    • @adsmith122
      @adsmith122 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      too early in the game imo for both ... its gonna take awhile for their name to really get out there as an alternative to SAN/LAX and code sharing is something that is wayyyyyy down the road, however, if they play their hand right with the business community, they could be feeder service to the majors by ensuring business travelers can connect to the majors in the larger city pairs

    Those 145 LRs are rockets compared to the XRs. Potable water in the lab could have been differed for a failed water sample. We have it happen quite a bit where I work but we usually placard the sink so people know. On those lav doors, there's a post that goes down when the lock is actuated. It could have been binding with the bottom rail. But it's good that you didn't force it. We've had mechanics get trapped in the lav from forcing them shut.

    • @JamesBraunstein
      @JamesBraunstein 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also don't know if that one had it, but on a lot of the 145s, there's a peephole in the aft wall that people always shove toilet paper in for some reason. To the left of it is a black button. If you push the button and look in the peephole, the cargo hold lights come on and you can see the baggage. This is so the flight attendants can look in there for fires and smoke.

    • @ITripReport

    • @adsmith122
      @adsmith122 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      runway can't support 737 operations and the 717 isn't that much different in terms of takeoff/landing space needed; however! back in october this year, the board approved a runway extension by anywhere from 350+ to just at 800 ft which would allow larger aircraft operation ...nowwww with that said, my experience has been it takes about anywhere north of 7+ yrs for this size airport to get it done

    Those ADI birds are tired. Really really tired. I with them luck but they’re going to have so many mechanical problems with them. It’s going put off a lot of potential customers

    Does anyone know the history of this plane? I watched a documentary about, it's sensational, ERJ145 was the last chance for the company, which took loans from suppliers, was privatized, managed to finish the project of this plane promising to sell 400 aircraft and managed to sell much more.

    Do they really fly at 30,000 feet for an hour only flight on a smaller jet??

    • @adsmith122
      @adsmith122 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      absolutely ... turbine engines are much more efficient at those altitudes due to less density of air

    • @davidfoster7173
      @davidfoster7173 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean Denver? There's no way any of their planes could fly to Dubai. They would have to have a 747, 777, 787, A330, A340, A350, A380, or other long haul aircraft to fly that far.
