I have discovered your suggestion works, however the dichroic leaves a border around the black base which doesn’t look great plus the clear top flows down around the sides which leaves me with cold working and fire polishing the piece . I’ll continue trying to improve the final piece . Thanks again.
Hi. Thanks for the video. I am asking the same question as a few of us have asked. What is the paper you use to cut out the heart? I have only just discovered and bought a microwave kiln so I am not sure about the differences between paper. Do please send some light!
Do you have anything that I could use to create a punched image in the middle of the paper so that when it fires the glass shows through? So say, I wanted a black base, a little dichroic glass showing through an image? I hope that makes sense.
Love it! Do you ever have problems with thermal shock when you are opening and closing the kiln? I don’t have a microwave kiln but I just can’t help thinking that the whole process is so fast, that they would break apart. Just curious. Thank you for the video! Kathie 🐢🤔🌮
Hi Kathie - thermal shock is an ever-present risk when using a microwave kiln with glass, and introduces an element of randomness to the success of your projects. Because the microwave kiln process is so rapid, you can always attempt to fuse your glass project again. To prevent thermal shock, larger or more expensive glass projects would be better fused in an electric kiln for control of the temperature of the fuse (e.g., tack, polish, slump, cast), and to anneal after firing.
Hi Debbie , I have a problem when fusing with dichroic glass . When it fuses together it’s leaves a residue of dichroic around the top circumference of my cabochon even though I have it capped with clear or dichroic facing down . Your expert opinion would be greatly appreciated in solving this issue for me . Many thanks.
Joe Finn - thanks for watching my videos! Dichroic loves to find a way to 'seep' out from under the capping glass - I have this problem too. To stop this from happening, just make your capping glass larger that the dichroic - a good couple of mm all around.
