The part they don't tell you is that the guy doesn't get to keep it. It gets confiscated and he will get a finders fee which will be a tiny fraction of what its worth. Personally, i wouldn't have said anything about it.

@@mnoell35yes he should've, I'll never forget seeing a doc about treasure hunters at sea where they found tons of gold and silver coinage. This was after a decade plus of hammering down the location and soon as they went public they lost it all. The country of origin even after centuries claimed ownership. Couldn't believe the treasure hunters got shafted so hard. U hear about it all the time with stuff like this too. This old dude is definitely bouta get shafted too

Been reading many stories lately about people just buying metal detectors and then shortly after they are going somewhere and stop to relieve themselves.
Lo and behold while they are stopped they decide to try out the metal detector and find a huge hoard of gold, silver and priceless artifacts.
On several occasions it turns out that they have been raiding places at night finding things but not reporting them as required.
After a few years and enough treasure they report their find from the side of the road, and don't have to split it with the owners of property they found it on.
Not saying that's what happened here, but sounds fishy to me.
