Ed, the title made us think of proper winter, not Georgia winter 😉 I’m in Colorado. Lp640 would kill you here in the winter. Been driving 2005 outback XT manual for years and agree with Doug, just saw a RS6 Avant pop up near me with hail damage and a manual 6speed swap. It’s very tempting but high miles. Wagons with turbos are a win in winter! God bless man, love the stories y’all tell. Bring the LP640 to Colorado in summer on some of the mountain highways. Fun and beautiful drivin

And he was talking about a Volkswagen Touareg saying he couldn’t disable traction control, not the rs2 avant. Can you really not keep focus that bad? Interesting fact about the RS2 by Porsche: It was not "only" the engineering, Porsche also integrated they Design-Langauge. In the Front, the Turnsignals came straight from a 993 also the Style of the Airintakes in the Front-Bumper. In the Back they integrated the iconic Porsche "Lightstrip" between the Backlights. Just beautiful...

How to disable the ESP:
Find the sensor for the steering angle, splice the wire and add a switch.
The sensor is usually in assembled in the steering column with the indicator and wiper levers.
Theres a obd2 dongle that can do it. Forgor what it called is like 60$
But the best part is it can disable automatic start stop

That's a good idea for a future VINwiki video, talking about how to import a vehicle from overseas (for those of us who have no clue how to even begin the process), and also the stories/nightmares that goes along with it.
There is a channel of an importer out here who I believe has done videos on it. The company and channel's name is Pacific Coast Auto. At least I believe it is if my memory serves.
The RS2 is indeed incredible. Formerly the fastest car from 0-30 for ~20 years. I'm not jealous at all. Noooo

I have a 97 Avant 280k miles on it. Daily driver, has issues but that car is sure footed in the winter.

This winter you could have driven an RS3 all but about 3 days so far, hope he gets some weather worthy of that awesome car. I'm almost thinking with climate change my requirement for AWD will be moot by the time my current Suby dies.

A fun winter wagon/hatch is the 2016-18 Ford RS on winter tires. You can utilize drift mode. You get 70% RWD, minor nannies, and the nannies can be completely turned off.
I know a guy who tows his snowmobile w/trailer to the mountains with his Quattro. It looks out of place sitting next to all the big pickups lol

the RS2 almost costs the same. At least if you buy a prestine example now. German Tuner JP Performance bought a 2020 RS6 avant AND a RS2 the same day (both in silver - he even bought his RS6 with blue brakes to match the RS2)
The RS6 is not really the ultimate winter car though. a) it's modern Audi AWD and b) it's heavy AF. It's a smooth Autobahn cruiser (at 300+kph - 180+mph)

The car you are talking about is the Evo X! The only criteria it did not meet is the station wagon thing, the Evo X is essentially a better STI that is almost a R35 GTR.
I daily a stripped out Evo X GSR in Canada and there is not one nanny that cant be turned off, it speaks to you like a Lotus Elise, It spins all 4 tires all the time, and it will fly by Ed's Merci on any Corner no question. The Evo X is dead reliable aswell, no chance breaking the drive train which is miles ahead of the 4G63 and also has a much stronger 5 speed. Not to mention you can make 600whp on the stock forged internals with proper torque management, anything over 400 wheel torque will kill the stock internals tho.
Oh my god Doug. Audi RS2 is an absolutely legendary car. A magazine did a test in the 90s,the thing is faster to 30mph than a McLaren F1. Yeah, take that bitches.

LL bean edition has a nice flat 6 engine. Swap it to a sti 6 speed and its a sweet drifter.

As someone who grew up in NH and now lives in Maine. I find myself often pondering this exact question.
Would have been easier for him to source a local Audi S6 C4 Avant (2.2 turbo inline-five) and "RS2" that engine.
Im surprised he didnt mention a 1995 Audi S6 wagon. I know it's not as awesome as an rs2 avant but still a very cool car and alot easier to obtain.

for the price of importing it alone, you could have gotten an AMC Eagle wagon, repair the rust, reupholster the interior, and end up with a station wagon that you could mod up like a Jeep XJ.

I thought I was the only person who really enjoyed snowy driving. I have been having the best winter driving a $250 2007 Subaru Forrester. Every time it snows I start to giggle cause I know I'm about to have some fun. It drifts great, does nice e-brake slides, and has enough damage from previous owners that I have no concerns about what happens to it.

Doug is right, this is an amazing winter car... actually amazing all year round. I remember my dad taking me and a friend to test drive a Nogaro blue RS2 when they were released back in 94 in Sweden. Found memories for sure. This is a dream car. I'm fortunate to own a 8P RS3 which is closely related, at least from an engine standpoint. That 5 cylinder sound is truly unique!

Doug will do anything but make a logical decision. You needed a four-wheel drive wagon that has the ability to turn off driving assists, but it also had to be relatively easy to work on... you are literally describing a Jeep Cherokee from 84-01. And if you wanted a little bit more power just put a turbo on the damn thing.
