Can't address all the comments so I'll leave it here. I understand its a test bed for a future game, I understand it's an alpha, I understand its an investment for arma 4. If you watched the video until the end you will see that I actually recommend it for hardcore arma fans or when its on sale in the future with more content.
However I'm on the side of the consumer, not of the developers. For the average player (me), it is not a good deal for 30€ since at its present state (21/05/2022) it barely has any content and several issues (Crashes and Disconnects, couldn't show the crashes because of how shadowplay works). For 30€ its a terrible deal(again, for your average player).
This is just my personal opinion. You can disagree and shoot me in Arma Reforger and I'll die using the same 1 death animation.
I'm still hyped to see what the community will make of it and I hope to revisit it and be impressed.

Crazy how people are forking over money for a demo and then telling others it's a normal thing for demos to cost money. If this happened 5-8 years ago, no one would trust BI ever again.

@@Bakane3 Shadowplay is nvidias game capture software that I use, basically if the game crashes, shadowplay also crashes so I can't capture a crash. I hope that made any sense ahah.

ARMA 3 was one of two Steam games I actually returned - the other was a game my 7 year old bought while I wasn't looking.
I had played the hell out of OFP back in the old days and was gobsmacked that they'd kept the same combat flow: like they genuinely didn't understand that the jerky, clunky, exaggerated, slightly-delayed movement in the original Operation Flashpoint wasn't a deliberate statement on real-world combat mobility, it was just their engine being shit and their coding being ponderous and antiquated.
Evidently, that style is beloved by millions of people. It literally made me want to punch my keyboard in half. I wish them all great happiness with Reforger, but I have hundreds of hours in Squad now and have no reason to look backwards.

Nano has fought in more than 5 wars. He’s fought in WWII, Vietnam, WWI, WWIII(now), Battles in the napoleonic era and more.
So how Nano has not had books written about him is beyond me.
He also has fought in Afghanistan and Syria, the Everon Conflict from OFP/Reforger (from this video), and modern WWIII.

@@dannyengineer9862 In Operation: Flashpoint/Arma lore, this wasn't WWIII. Reforger (as well as the OG Operation: Flashpoint) takes place on the fictional island of Everon, which was where the Everon Conflict took place against the US, CCCP, and FIA. Since Arma 1 takes place in 2006, Arma 2 takes place in 2009, and Arma 3 takes place in the 2030's, it's obvious that WWIII never went nuclear.
Or at least not buy it at this stage, this is mostly a tech demo for modders to implant their mod prior to ARMA4. (edit:I Refunded for obvious reason)
Arma 4 is gonna be in like 2025 according to some leakers, so I think they will keep adding and improving to reforged.

Every bohemia game is a tech demo waiting for modders to fix it. Its the same formula bethesda uses for fallout. This has more features than when arms 3 launched. lol

The marketing idea for this is 'alright' The devs said it was just a bridge between Arma 3 - Arma 4/ for modders to dip their toes into modding. However, on the steam page it really doesn't convey that it's just a bridge build between two games. Charging money for an Alpha, and letting mass amounts of people play makes zero sense.
I could understand a Beta, maybe charging $19 dollars, and then a larger amount for when it's fully released. But at the current price of the game which is $29.99 USD it's not worth it.

Pc players are disappointed in this game but I have been waiting for Arma on console for years. I haven't had this much playing an game in a long time, it doesn't even bother me the frame drops or server fails because I'm grateful to even be playing it. A lot of Xbox players are excited to be playing Arma, there are many like me that wanted Arma on console that wouldn't want to build a PC for it.
the fact that the mods are multiplatform is showing that this is going to be a fun game. it is already fun at this stage but the more content and ideas the better

Back to 2004, I was running the game with MX440. Got no problems with it. AI drives, no disconnections, no clunky actions, the laptop UI exists and most importantly the curiosity from a kid exists.
The game isnt really meant to be a game to play. Its meant as a test bed for the actual game to come later, so modders can get a head start and have actual community content prior to the launch of the game.

I’m on console and tried the trial and eventually bought it. I mainly use game master and just watch a bunch of soldiers fight it out in different scenarios. Even if it’s a buggy mess I enjoy it and hopefully they’ll put some updates in and approve the experience.

I do have a gaming laptop mainly for traveling and I have a bunch of RTS games on there and a few others but between the two I still prefer my console. I’d rather use a controller than a mouse and keyboard tbh and plus console is where all my buddies are so that’s the main reason

@@jakybdorcas7177 I like that’s it similar to task force radio mod. Breaks apart at distance if using a low power radio. It’s awesome. Default voip sucked in Previous games. Had to use tfar mod in Arma 2 as well because the default was awful. Now I can play as my rto (radio man) role much better. Feels close to the real thing. So glad it’s the default now

In Reforger, are you able to build units and your own senerios, like in Arma 3? I bought it but it seems like you are able to do a lot more with Arma 3 than with Reforger.

Arma reforger is a tech demo, it even basically says it on the steam page. It's for modders to get accustomed to the new engine, and show off what's capable, it's not early access it's essentially "Display purposes only"
Bohemia Interactive did this with Arma 3 as well. They released just the editor and then added the rest of the game later.

So why charge money for it and so much at that? Calling it a tech demo does not change anything. It´s being sold as a product so should be treated as such. An actual demo is free of charge. This is not a tech demo.
I'd like to mention the hardest thing in the game (besides joining a round with over 10 players) is currently... acquiring a target. This seems pretty realistic, it is incredibly difficult to get a spot on a lone opponent and it takes time to confirm a target (could be an ally) or a kill...
What this game needs is an insurgent game mode. Now that we have better (but not great) AI, have npcs running around in the towns and hiding in the homes and driving down the roads, and let insurgents wear the same clothes. Is that just a civilian on the side of the road, or is it someone with a cellphone-detonator ready to set off an IED. Is that just a civilian watching from the windows, or is it a spy for the resistance. I think with all the mechanics we've seen so far, especially that amazing loot system, the insurgent gamemodes for arma 3 could be expanded in a massive and wonderful way... and should be made vanilla

That night firefight reminded me of my early infantry training - before night vision gear became common. We trained to fire at muzzle flashes. The targets would have lights on them that would flash. We used to all deliberately fire at 1 target (prearranged). Sometimes we’d put 300 rounds into one pairs target and none in any other target. That’s drive the heads nuts but what could they do?
Ps tell that dude that the proper way to call a target is:
Number and description of enemies
Location
Landmark they’re near
Which way they’re moving
What they’re armed with.

Reforger is three things; a platform to allow the extensive modding community to get used to enfusion and start work preparing their creations for ArmA 4; a source of income to help fund ArmA 4’s development; and a Tech-Demo of Enfusion to show what ArmA 4 can look like.
It is not a ‘game’. If you buy it expecting polished and streamlined gameplay, you just didn’t do enough research before typing in your bank details.

I am having a blast with Arma Reforger. It has its issues of course and the constant server crash is super annoying but overall when its stable its super fun. Its like a version of Squad but with more action and VIOP with other teams. Really just need to fix server issues, really hard to invest your time when you lag out.
I think it’s interesting to see this red uniform which was the old Swiss uniform (Taz 57) which was used in the Kosovo war after the Swiss switched to the newer Taz 90 (also a lot men which where conscripts in the Swiss army brought there uniform to there cousin/or other family members which where fighting in the war

@@Nanoytgaming Yeah, a bit hard to play when you get disconnected every 10 minutes though. Apparently the last update was supposed to fix the connection errors but now they're worse. So I definitely don't disagree with a lot of the issues. Like there being a lack of content, constant crashing and disconnecting.
Ya a little frustrating when you spend about 15 minutes with your vehicle and get to point A and then poof your out.

I feel that buying it puts more money towards it which in turn will aid in delivering an awesome experience when it comes out of game preview. I have had a lot of fun playing so for now I look past the bugs and glitches. ✌️✌️

They made a whole new engine and released it like 2 days ago. If we are ever going to break out of these generic UE4 cookie cutter overrated shooters you gotta accept they need to flush out new systems that actually support things like, bolt position on reload, meaningful penetration and ballistics based on caliber, real world land navigation and unit coordination. Squad was never really a milsim, it was a twitch shooter prancing around in the skin of a milsim.
Arma 3 was in a far far worse state and had equally limited content on release and they ironed most of it out pretty well.
I have had more fun in 10 hours of this game with spam DC than I did in 700 hours of Squad or HLL.
Atleast you enjoy paying 30 bucks for a demo

Honestly expected more from an engine update, seems just like Arma 3 Jankiness but turned down like 50%. The 50% is great but I was expecting at least 75% sorta deal.
This is like gold standard compared to previous arma performance lmao. You just dont know what you should be looking at.

@@ohy2266 So are you saying the 'full game' (A4?) is going to fix the 50% left of seemingly engine-tied issues still present? If so that's great, but somehow I doubt it. This was meant to be an engine showcase/tool, not a game. Again, it's a great difference from A3 with real impacts and improvements that will change the Arma experience, I just expected more. Maybe my standards are too high because I've been playing other amazing games since I last played Arma but maybe it's just BI have lowered their playerbases' standard so low, who knows.
@@cameronw17 Uh yeah A4 the game that wont be out for 1.5 years or so will probably not have most of whatever engine related problems you're seeing. Thats kinda the point of Reforger, to stress test and figure out problems with their new tech so you dont have to find them when A4 comes out.
I do somewhat agree that i was expecting a bit more vehicles and such but i assume (hope at least) they have some of that stuff ready but wanted to start small. I think partially your standard was set to a new big release and not a tech demo and so you were let down.
I'm just trying to figure out how to rebind my controls. I'm not a fan of how Arma sets up your controls, especially toggled optics, and I can't seem to get it to let me bind everything.

There is no confirmation as to when they will be switching gears to Arma 4. On the site it says that reforger is expected to be in early access for 12 months and then will no longer be in early access. Sounds like they will continue to support it and Arma 4 will be further down the road. Being that it is early access and JUST came out the current state can be forgiven. They are serious about player feedback and want to shape what will ultimately become Arma 4 together with the community. Mods will also likely help add content. Seems to me any arma fan is doing a disservice by avoiding this product. Maybe wait a bit to iron out the current issues but ultimately the more people that can play it and provide feedback the better Arma 4 will be. Also Bohemia is a small company game development cost money this allows them to keep the business going while also having a platform that will grow into what Arma 4 will become. The focus here is clearly the engine and game mechanics and Arma 4 will have the meat and potatoes that is assets. Fully fleshed out factions and the like. I hope RHS and other mod developers can provide the assets needed to further flesh out reforger. This would allow Bohemia to focus on what matters now for Arma and modders can help flesh it out. If this game is ignored it could prevent Arma 4 from releasing or could hurt Arma 4 since Bohemia wouldn't get the feedback needed to make sure we get the best Arma ever. Never have I heard from Bohemia that this is just a tech demo. I have only heard that from people who have played this game and look at what there is right now and think this is all there ever will be with reforger. Just my 2 cents.
They've said they will stop support after 12 months entirely, during that time they will release 3 major updates based on fan feedback, and then they will use arma reforger to shape arma 4.

@@Govik420 I've heard conflicting things about this, some people saying support ends after 12 months, others saying that's simply when it leaves early access. I'm not 100% sure which is correct.
