That Phillips head screw where the 10 mm bolt is need to come out and put a grease fitting there

How did you get the transom mount the one I saw had flat surface mount ?????
I'm on multiple mud motor groups on fb and thought I had seen every long tail video on TH-cam but this is the first time I've seen this! I can't wait to see this run, this looks more like what I want for my little 1232 than any other kit I've seen and it's probably cheaper too! I'm curious to see if I can get it without the engine.

@@drxron so is it a twister copy or clone? Is it just a cable inside the shaft to the prop and what size engine shaft does that engine have? I'm sure it's either 3/4 or 5/8 because that makes a huge difference in if I would buy it to swap motors later.

@@ericbest9562 it's a Twister from China just like Mud Skipper sells. I just got one last week. $407 to my door. The $407 includes a 196cc Honda clone with 3/4" PTO. Plan on ordering the two blade prop conversion kit from MS next week.
@@brentsevereid9180 putting a two blade prop requires a kit? I may go ahead and order my own kit. What keeps the drive line from eating through the "s" shaped housing

I'm looking for something to push my 1232 up and down a swampy creek and something to ride my local river in, slow winding muddy river with bedrock and sand bottom, I'm in the south so we don't really have a lot of fast moving white water. I'm not looking for a whole lot of speed, just enough to get on plane and power to go upstream faster than a trolling motor, something that can handle a few logs and rocks

Everything Mudskipper sells for their 5-7hp twister will fit the 196cc one from Amazon because they all come from the same manufacturer in China.
How is the twister v the standard long tail? Pros and cons?

havent tried it out yet just finishing up the boat its gonna be mounted to since were not getting any ice fishing out this way

did you try a 2blade prop yet? I got exact same kit, tryed it out, its good.. But it does not push or gain the smooth plane' mph like ive seen.. Prop ischeap, and wrong design imho. Its mor of a regular outboard prop.. not great for these setups..
unlike the 2blad props ive seen on youtube..

The stock 3blade prop is not rite for these twisters imho..
FOR ANYONE WONDERING ABOUT THESE SETUPS, I TRIED ONE TODAY ON SWIFT RIVER..
1. the 3 blade prop sucks.. 2. the throttle control is OK but id get a better one.. Like a reall motorcylce twist throttler with adjuster, or a brake-lever style..
3. Get some good loctite, and loctite everything..Dont OVER TIGHTEN THE BOLTS ON the engine. or brackets.. Id even consider lock nuts on some things..
4. It does not need alot of grease in shaft... about 6-8 pumps is plenty..
5. the trim bolt is a pain too adjust on fly, neeed too redisgn somethin easy too turn when yop need too adjust trim.. *maybe a sort of small jack/hand crank or actuator?
6. The bolts/screw that hold the motor mount too transom mount is a pita to get too. (helps keep setup from just ghost riding if you letgo of handle.. need something like a tab' or thumb screw bolt..
7. make sure your sitting in boat, and/or prop is outta water, or your ready for it too start moving soon as it starts..
Id recommend a bungee too hold tiller handle in place also.
lastly, just bring a cpl basic metric wrenches, 8-10-12-14, and bigger adjustableetc for transom bolts.. I ran myne about 1.5 hours, no issues.. up a river and back down,
Oh yea, and put all bolts nuts on tail, motor mounts, leave them loose, put tail on motor. tight clamps on tail snug, dont kill them. then tighten the motor mout bolts.. id use lock nuts, as they di loosen up on me a tad..
other then that, its a awesome setup for money.. and it will go places other motors wont.. its dummy proof in shallow water. well sortof. lol
Thanks so much for this info. I watched your short and saw you got 18 mph with some mods. Couple questions for you.. what boat was it on and what kind of weight was in the boat? Also do mods that fit the 212 predator fit this? Did you do a stage one or more to it?
I am considering this for my 1436. Have a johnson outboard but need something for shallow river. Debating this inexpensive option or a heavier 15.9 hp predator with a mudskipper twister or surface drive. Let me know your thoughts. Looks like a slick rig for the money, just not sure it'll get me on plane. Thanks so much man!
@@tylerczekaj860 My boat is and old boat,flat bottom its 10'ft x 32" or somthing. long and narrow. not heavy. weight, prob about 275lbs me and gear, idk weight of boat, then plus motor weight.. With 2 ppl, or up near 5-600 lbs your gonna only hit 15-mph'ISH,
depending on currents.
I take myne on river so its either fight the current or going with it. 18mph was down river.
This engines with mods, like cam, flywheel,carb, etc, stage 3? will prob get your boat on plane..
But yess, 212cc mods (non hemi) Are the same. Technically this is a gx200 clone, I think, actually its really even only a gx160? since it has a 68mm piston.
-But yea when doin the valvtrain, cam etc, just make sure the cam is non hemi, and or gx200 clone style.
Theres a company on ebay, DIYPERFORMANCE1 that i got a "booster cam for myne. just ask the sellers before you buy.
The cam i got isnt a crazy one, but it def helped the engine ALOT.. it easily revs and stays steady up too 5k..plus lightweigh flywhel, also +8 degree offset flywheel.valve springs..
This engine is ok, I am gonna try as far as a stage 2-3 in parts, if i cant get too 20mph, with more mods, and different props. I am going too try and get a 11-15hp setup.
I plan on doing a few more mods too my engine, running it, then i might try a 224cc clone maybe, and just swap all the perf parts over too it.. Or like i said, try and find a 9-11hp 270-390cc w/ 3/4" sshaft too put on..
I love this thing. Sometimes wish i got the 15hp version, But im at the weight limit i can go with on my 10ft boat. So i figure ill do a few modsa too the gx'150 clone.. Run it, if it blows or i dont see better speed and power, I might try a 224cc' or try too find a 11hp 270-390cc w/ 3/4" shaft...
There is gotta be a part out there too use a 9-15hp with this twister kit. the only difference is the PTO shaft coupling size i think.. these are 3/4" shafts, THE 15HP kit looks too be same. but they would be a 1" shaft..ALSO its 850$ or w.e.. Mostly for the weight im thinking.
Before you go crazy trying too do all the mods, I would do a basic stage 1 mod kit, maybe a cam, gov. delete, etc..
THEN, go too mud-skipper.com, and get some different prop sizes. I found the 6.5"- 6.5" hi-power, 7" and no.1 hi speed props wook decent for these motors. Youll have too tapp' the props for M16X2.0, The M8 set screw, But the 2 blade props are the best mod for these too start.. Then can figure out witch prop, and height of motor works best.
If you want too go too places no other boat is goin on a rocky river, use one of these setups. If your running deep water, or lakes, a regular outboard prob be better.. But then agian, cant beat the simplicity of these, air cooled, fairly light, no gas too mix, no oil in the drivetrain. start easy etc.

@Justin Herdman thanks for the detailed response. Unfortunately mudskipper no longer sells the 3 to 2 blade adapter so the kit seems pretty useless with the 3 blade. I think I'm just going to go with the 15.9 predator and twister xl from mudskipper. More expensive and heavier but should be enough power. And yeah I have a 1976 johnson 9.9 converted to a 15 that I did a lot of work on but my primary use for the jon boat is rocky shallow rivers
Were did u get a two prop at for it I just got one for my boat motor came first waiting ont the rest of the kit

Nah it doesn’t. I think you can buy a clutch for it from mudskipper.
Online it says these are stern mounted have you tried mounting to transom any issues ? Did it work well I want to get one for my 14/32 jon
they definitely seem like theyd be fine on the transom, im finishing up my little jon boat this week or so and will test!
