  • These are some methods I have come up with over the hundreds of hours I have spent with this kit. Find yourself a nice creek and just practice these techniques until you cant mess them up and it will save you in the tough spots.

    you are literally the only one on youtube, that has a video on maneuvering these things, thank you for that, look man im about to get one, just a little nervous to be honest with you, can you please make more videos on this, and definatly on turning on bends and curves and just sharp instant turns, and maybe some info on how to stop the boat if you need too, thats what im really trying to wrap my head around. specially if theres kayakers around and i have to make turns and stay straight and how to stop if i need to , great video by the way , very helpful, ur the one getting me into this, lol , plz and thanks

    Thanks. This helps a lot. I probably should have started with a little 12' and a 6.5 hp but I couldn't help myself and got a 16' and a 22hp. It's going to be a lot to learn.

      +donnsald trump it's a pretty short learning curve but just find your self a quite area to just do donuts and practice

    If your at full stop, start your engine and put only the very tip of the propeller touching the surface of the water. The entire boat will pivot on the center of bouyancy like a tank. People look at me confused when I do it. It's so funny. So much better than the rowing thing, but you still have to do that sometimes too.

    • @MudMotorsMax
      @MudMotorsMax 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      thank you I've tried to explain this to people but they think I'm crazy or something you can turn these things like a zero turn lawn mower not as fast but doing exactly what you just said

  • @Makermook
    @Makermook 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    How far down in the water should the prop be? I know that sounds ignorant, but I've never used a long tail setup like this. Should it be partially above the surface? Just below? Far down?

    • @MudMotorsMax
      @MudMotorsMax 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you have to play with it man honestly a long tail is designed to ride in the wake of your boat but you can run them deep or shallow it bogs down the engine the deeper you go so you got to have a lot of power but it also grabs harder to. the bigger prop the shallower the water you can run

    How does this motor set-up work in areas like the Broad or Bush river with rocky shoals?

    • @MADSLife
      @MADSLife  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Never been on the broad with it but I have taken the rapids both ways on the Peedee and it working great

    Nice video ! Would you recommend this type of motor than a regular out board motor for my 12 ft jon boat ? I usually will be in a deep water in lake rather than shallow water in creeks.

    • @MADSLife
      @MADSLife  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +nc airguner First off thank you. I originally bought the motor for my 14ft as an upgrade from a trolling motor as my primary propulsion. Nothing says you can't use it in deep water the only real difference is noise and the mud motor takes a little bit of muscle to use but after a while you'll figure out the best position and get a little stronger and you won't even notice. The biggest factor for me was my limited budget so if your looking for a cheap way to get around this is it

    • @ncairguner
      @ncairguner 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if you didn't have a limited budget issue would you buy the regular outboard engine or this mud engine ? Thanks. By the way I live in North Carolina as well.

    • @MADSLife
      @MADSLife  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +nc airguner If I was in your position and knew that I wouldn't touch shallow water, I'd go with an outboard

    What's up bud I'm looking into building one I was thinking a 14ft flat bottom Jon boat and a Honda gx series engine with a mud kit or the predator engine with a kit what's horse power do you recommend with about 350 pounds worth of people and maybe 100-150 in gear?

    • @MADSLife
      @MADSLife  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Anthony Priore My 6.5hp, 212cc will push my brother and I (about 300lbs) and about 50lbs of gear at about 14 mph

    • @DavidJHochman
      @DavidJHochman 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MADSLife what size prop. I have a 12 foot jon with the same motor and 6.25 prop. 2 guys and gear and I get maybe 7 mph

      +Ethan Smith the kit comes with one but I let it get rusty and it's not that big a deal to me so I just don't replace it.
