- Found Out About You has always been my favorite Gin Blossoms song and I've wanted to cover it forever. My brother Dan Rucci accompanies me in this music video with drums and backing vocals. All other instruments were done by me as well as lead vocal....
Gin Blossoms is an American rock band formed in 1987 in Tempe, Arizona. They first came to notice with the song "Hey Jealousy" from their first major label album, New Miserable Experience (1992), but this achievement was coupled with the forced firing and eventual suicide of the song's author and band co-founder Doug Hopkins, prompting the title of their follow-up album, Congratulations I'm Sorry (1996). After a series of charting singles, the band broke up in 1997. They reunited in 2002 and released a fourth album, Major Lodge Victory, in 2006, and a fifth, No Chocolate Cake, in 2010.
Gin Blossoms named their first full-length studio album New Miserable Experience. In February 1992, while still working to complete it, founding member and lead guitarist/songwriter Hopkins drank heavily and grew increasingly depressed during the process. Faced with the prospect of being dropped by A&M, the band was forced by A&M to fire Hopkins. The band then withheld $15,000 owed to Hopkins until he agreed to sign over half of his publishing royalties. Hopkins was also required to relinquish his mechanical royalties to his replacement, Scott Johnson. Hopkins reluctantly agreed to these demands because of his dire financial situation.
The first single released from it was Hopkins' song "Hey Jealousy". It reached No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 4 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks, largely fueling the success of New Miserable Experience. However, the achievement was overshadowed by Hopkins' suicide on December 4, 1993. The following year, another song by Hopkins, "Found Out About You", also reached No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 and climbed to No. 1 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks.
Between their first and second albums, the Gin Blossoms contributed the single "Til I Hear It from You" for the Empire Records soundtrack. It reached No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their second major album, Congratulations I'm Sorry, was released in 1996. Yielding one top ten hit, "Follow You Down" - No. 9 Billboard Hot 100, the album met with mixed reviews.
With chart success came opportunities to appear as musical guests on late night television. Between 1993 and 1996, Gin Blossoms appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (1993), Late Show With David Letterman (1994), and as featured musical act on Saturday Night Live (1996). Gin Blossoms appeared on the Late Show With David Letterman in solo appearances, and once performed "Christine Sixteen" with the members of KISS. Gin Blossoms became a favorite of Late Show musical director, Paul Shaffer, and their music was often featured as the show cut to and from commercials. The band was also a featured performer in the closing credits of the movie, Wayne's World 2 (1993), performing "Idiot Summer" on-screen as part of the fictional concert, "Waynestock" - เพลง

Fantastic cover of one of my favorite songs! I really appreciate you showing the lead solo in detail, as I would have never figured it out on my own. I also appreciate your vocal quality/range and the superb drumming. One thing I noticed when playing along with the 'official' video of the song is that the lead guitar is apparently using a delay effect to get that subtle slapping sound during the solo. I'm using a Mustang LT25 modelling amp, and a modified 'clean delay' preset (with the 'time' knob' turned down) comes close to replicating the original solo sound. Your solo sounds great, though!
Hey thanks! So glad you enjoyed our cover! Yea I typically try to replicate any sounds from the original as best I can, and the solo I tried to get close. There is a slight slap back reverb effect on the solo I think. I’m guessing the part most people have trouble figuring out in the solo is the end where he plays he open high E string with high notes on the B, creating a kind of chord.

When this song came out my only option was to turn it up, since life at the time, was too busy to be buying music and there was no Google / TH-cam. I'm decades late getting back to it and have been checking out all the covers. This is the best one! You get a subscribe & like!

This song was always a huge favorite of mine so when I started doing TH-cam covers this one was on my "must-do" list. I was in a bar band back in the late 90s and we used to play "Hey Jealousy" all the time but we never did this one, even though I prefer this to Jealousy by a lot. Most of this channel is serious covers, but I do like to have fun and make people laugh too, so I've been trying to keep a mix between good fun and laughs, and good music!

Hey Dave, as it turns out I don't know this song but my ears definitely like it a lot! - such a cool chorus and melody... I love the harmonies with your brother, your voices are perfect together. The solo was also really cool... Am going to look up the original version of this song now as it's right up my street. Definitely a great feel good vibe :)

I rerally do love the energy of this song, even though the lyrics are pretty somber and a bit depressing. Have you even heard of the Gin Blossoms before?
No, I've never heard of this band - don't know if they were big in the UK but then again when this came out I wouldn't have been into this kind of music - more sparkly girly bands like The Spice Girls! ... but I'm happy to say that my tastes have changed since I was a teen and I appreciate this now, definitely a cool, nostalgic sound - one for driving and reminiscing I think!

Hey Dave... yes very good eye! I almost forgot that I had the capo on one of the guitars here. I keep my 12 string Takamine tuned down to D as I've heard its a little easier on the neck/body tension, especially on that particular model. I know someone who had theirs warp so bad it destroyed the guitar. His was the same exact guitar but he may have overexposed it to moisture/humidity too. Thanks for noticing and commenting!
