The first tip about changing playback resolution helped me a ton in Davinci 18... Literally nothing about my recording software or Davinci has changed since the last thing I edited, yet for some reason playback was so choppy, it wasn't even showing me the correct frames on screen. Setting it at half res seems to have made it run immensely smoother, thanks.

@3:17 - Dude I want to thank you very, very much for making this video. I inadvertently activated 3-D Keyer on my video track, forgot about it, and it was bogging my entire project down... big time. I am now back on track thanks to you. Keep up the nice work!

i have to say, as an advocate editor who is so passionate about it. this is gold. alot of people drag out things or come up with long process fixes for issues that are just insanely explained. you kept it as short as possible, no non sense and straight to the points with some entertainment. im not one to ever comment but i had to give you some praise. this is just gods work. thank you

Im really lost and dont know where to go, could you help me? 😬
I have a 10 yo laptop that had 4gb of ram, i dont remember any other specs, recently i put in another 4 gb ram stick so i thought it would handle resolve but it kinda doesn't, the mouse gets stuck and it take a while to move stuff, do you know a forum where i can go and ask what to do or do you have any suggestions?

    • @TheAscendedHuman
      @TheAscendedHuman ปีที่แล้ว

@@Valeriamtzp Also I know the "get a new laptop" answer is brain dead, but technology has advanced so much in the last 10 years, it's exponential growth. GPUs from 7 years ago are several leagues slower than modern GPUs, same with CPUs. All the modern components are on a different level, however you don't have to get the newest of the new if you're on a budget, components from a few years ago will work just fine too, you might only be able to find them used however.

The text changing after going back to 4K is normal actually. You spaced the text based on pixel measures, if you use more pixel, then, the measure used on 1080p will look smaller ! So every bit of effects using a pixel measurement will be affected when going back to 4K

Since no one made a summary...
    Davinci Optimization Settings
    1. Playback -> Timeline Proxy Mode
    2. Toggle CG & FFX or use Adjustment Clips
    3. Generate Proxy Media (Select Files -> Right Click)
    4. Render Cache (Playback -> User or Smart)
    5. Lower Timeline Resolution (Via Project Settings, Render in Full Resolution)

THANK YOU SM FOR THE TIPS 🫂🤍
    For choppy playback:
1:36 Playback > Timeline Playback Res > Quarter
** improve playback. cutting clips & adding music will not affect final render (RENDER IN 4k)
    For color grading:
2:19 Do colorgrading in adjustment clips.
    - How? 2:32 In "Cut" tab, click Effects (located at the top) > click and drag Adjustment Clip to timeline > click Adjustment Clip in timeline then hit "Color" tab > perform color grading > click "Edit" tab and then turn off/on Adjustment Clip OR 2:59 click color wheel icon in top right OR 3:14 click "Inspector" tab in top right
    For optimizing media
3:34 Media Pool > select clips you want to turn into proxy's > Generate Proxy Media (i don't have that option?? so i clicked Generate Optimized Media)
    For rendering cache:
4:21 Playback > Render Cache > Smart or User
    When editing a 4k project:
5:14 click all clips in timeline > File > Project Settings > Timeline Format > Timeline Resolution > 1080 x 1080 HD Square
    - IMPORTANT ‼️ BEFORE RENDERING (adding text & effects), YOU NEED TO SWITCH BACK TO 4K

Amazing video about optimization brother! Interesting the thing you mentioned about text letter spacing behavior between 1080p and 4K, as an image processing software developer, I can say this is a "bug" that can be fixed by dynamically set in Davinci's code that the spacing should have a multiply factor based on the pixel width / height. Blackmagic should know about this so they can fix it, your workaround is great but is better that we as developers to know this kind of feedback about bugs to improve the software. I just love Davinci is an amazing piece of software, smooth UI and amazing UX.

thank you! Great tips...any tips on how to fix Davinci barely using my descrete graphics? My GPU usage doesn't ever seem to go over ~25% use 😕 and even with 64gb of ddr4, and a Core i9 processor, while using all of your settings except proxy rendering clips down to 1080p. Proxy at 1/4 in the preview, timeline set down to 1080p, cleared cache...oh yeah, and that blue or red line that you have with prerending the cache doesn't happen on mine. 18.6 I should add that I have set davinci for Cuda and my gpu manually as well.
