A shame it has this link to the adenoidal smugness that is TUG. There's almost no "design" to this watch, nothing original about the design elements or their combination. The steel is interesting but they could have made anything out of that. Instead, they made this...
@@SampleTracks2224 the circular dial field watch segment is nearly impossible to redesign...so to suggest anything in the field watch space can be "original" is a farce. But to take inspiration and put into production something slightly different without stepping out of the genre is something good for the market - options. As for the smugness comment...ignorance personified.
That system doesn't look clean or great though. Nodus is licensing the NodeX to anyone interested, I'm sure they can work something out if Hanhart is interested. Sinn is also coming up with their own version, which also looks to have a cleaner mechanism than what is on the Preventor 9.
@@paulbugoni2846 I saw one on Click Spring Reviews and the only issues Barry mentioned is that it seems a bit thick at 9 mm and that the extension does not look seamless. I think these are very minor issues, considering the functionality you get. I'd take this over the cheap-looking old clasp any day. It's a pain getting the right fit when you get out and it's hot... nobody brings a spring bar tool with them everywhere they go. Plus, this kinda reminds me of what Omega used on the RMLE (which I have) and it's actually a great clasp.

This one was more of a "coming attractions" episode since I haven't got it on wrist yet. I can say, generally, Hanhart bracelets are gorgeous. The clasp is double button with microadjustments. TGV's video is of course the key video to view since he codesigned it with Hanhart. You'll get a better sense of it there I reckon. Here is the link. @@HobbyOfHours you bet. I do have a Marathon Navigator and you’re right you can’t beat that in the middle of the night. I also have an IWC tribute to Mk 11 that has strong “old radium” markers and hands that glow through the night. And the surprise hit is my San Martin quartz homage to the RAF Mk 11: it has very strong C3 lume and it is legible all night. I have yet to have a C1 watch last half as long as C3. BGW9 seems to do OK as long as the application is heavy. I know a lot of people focus on lume for diving watches, but for flying I found it really important as well, especially when operating on and off of carriers.

Hi D, congratulations on getting this out so promptly! I think it's great: the design is beautifully balanced, the finish tough and versatile and the movement is regulated (Seiko take note). The icing on the cake is the decent water resistance. Depending on the spacing of the spring bars, this could be a candidate for a selection of Natos... Like you, I like the 417, but I would buy the 1954 Panda version. In England we can buy from Hanhart online, but we have an excellent distributor (Chronomaster) here in the UK. It's great to see you back in the studio D! It's finally nice to see a 3 hand sub-40mm Flieger release from Hanhart! This will kill that 38mm Hamilton Murph itch! Now, if Hanhart placed it's unique historical Preventor9 dial on this 39mm case, it will have no challengers. So much to ask too soon 😂. Any news on a 39mm Moby Dick from Felix?

This is quite a sleeper watch, but it's made solely for a crowd that wants this kind of uninspired design. It's just a much better Murph at the end of the day, and you can get valid watches of that kind from many many brands.

@HobbyOfHours TGV claims to have had a part in this design as well. With such a simple design it's hard to believe they missed the drilled lugs on a watch he calls a "strap monster" He may be anti-drilled lugs as they seem to be missing on most of the watches he says he has influenced.
@@rodg2335 Yes indeed, he co-designed this one. Something I did not know when I released my video. I often wonder why drilled lugs aren't a part of most pilot/field designs, speaking generally. I could guess that the hardness of this treated steel could be the matter or a general challenge in executing drilled lugs. Or it could have been a purely aesthetic choice. It's cleaner and leans more towards dress functionality whereas the drilled lugs would lend it more towards rugged, purpose. My two cents! Best, D
