I drive a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche and I have graps on it.. It's a 2wd, I mostly drive pavement and dirt roads. I don't sink or bury my truck because it destroys the suspension. My 2wd will go anywhere I need to go within reason. I've been on dry dirt roads and very wet dirt roads and never got stuck. 2wd is just as goods as 4wd, especially when most of the guys that drive 4wd trucks never get muddy

3/4 ton square body’s will fit a 285/75r16 (33”) tire on stock suspension. They have great ground clearance. They sit quite a bit taller stock than the half tons. But go even more if you want. 😎 Might have use spring spacers in the front. Not much else available for them. Looked a couple years ago for my truck.
I live the Central Valley in California. I don’t see many trails or snow. I’ll go uphill the levees on the Delta for fishing at the most. A 2WD with a G-80 locker on my “15” Silverado is good enough for me!! Thanks for the content buddy👍🏼I’m on vacation 🏖🎢 and still enjoy your vids
I live in south Texas and it’s funny to see so many ppl who have 4x4 giant trucks and jeeps. Unless you go to the beach, there is no reason for it. It has snowed enough to need 4x4 once in the last 20 years. I drive a 4x2 Tacoma for my daily and have my old Tacoma that is 4x4 for when I want to go to the beach. Texas loves their big ol trucks but nobody ever uses the 4x4. Now if I moved back up north I would probably consider getting a 4x4 daily driver.
Let me learn ya something youngin’s. 2 Benefits to lift a 2wd truck: 1. Ground clearance for WHEN you wished you had it. 2. It will be is more capable off road with, (at the very least), All Terrain tires. Bonus: That look. If you’re a southern rebel, you’re probably used to going against the grain anyways.

I LOVE my lifted (4") w/ 33" tires) 2WD truck. I have plenty of ground clearance, and it's so light, all I need is a "come-a-long" if I get stuck. I don't run a winch.

Larry and Earl are looking sharp. I once bought a new 80 pickup, I didn’t lift it but put some aggressive treaded bigger tires and got a lot closer to my deer stand and favorite fishing hole. Carry on.
Pre runner trucks have a special place in my heart. I don’t look at is as they are missing having 4wd I look at them more as a super easy platform to build. Easy to work on, if you re gear it you only have to do 1 axle. Also 2wd trucks get better gas mileage which is huge for me and they are also considerably lighter which is also huge for me. I’m building a 2000 ecsb 2wd Silverado right now and it’s turning out awesome so far.
I have a 2wd 99 s10 blazer that has a 2" lift and I installed 2" receivers on the front and rear that I use for a removable winch. I don't take it into bad spots very often, but with this setup I keep the better fuel milage of a 2wd and can still go to some places a 4wd can go if I'm willing to use my winch.
When I was first looking for a truck I didn’t want a 2wd because I thought it was stupid and I would get made fun of for lifting it even though I never would use a 4wd but then I saw Larry and liked how it looked and then I thought 2wd were actually cool and it makes people mad too.
I have a 2wd with a locker and I overland a lot of the year in California and I never once have said I really wish I had 4wd . 99 percent of the time you won't need 4wd offroad unless your crawling which I have done in 2wd

My biggest issue with 2wd trucks is I live in western South Dakota so as you can imagine the winters can get pretty crazy and it’s quite tough with only 2 wheels spinning instead of 4
I live in the Houston area and I have never understood the locals insistence that a truck MUST have 4wd. The Houston area is compromised of Harris, Brazoria, Fort Bend, parts of Matagorda, and Montgomery Counties, and for the most part these areas flatter than a tans gender shim before transition....I think. I'm still working on that analogy.
Bought my first truck (NBS rcsb) and mostly for utility and doing light towing for my project car. Having a truck for such short time I’ve already been in 2 situations in which I would need the utility of a slightly lifted or leveled truck. As much as I would love to drop it and go for an old school look, I don’t want to give up the functionality of what makes a truck a truck.
I’ve done a LOT of off roading lifted 2wd trucks. They work well for desert exploring. Fire roads. Double track. Etc. Good ground clearance, good tires, and a locking rear will get you pretty far. Just know your limits. Stay out of deep sand, deep mud, and wet snow. They usually ride smoother than a typical torsion bar 4x4 too.
I've got a 2wd and a 4wd truck. My 1991 GMC Sierra 1500 2wd step side is on black wheels and all terrains. Does ok, pulls my boat, haven't been stuck too bad in the snow when I used to drive it, I'd put 400 lbs of sand bags in the bed between the wheel wells and it got me around in Michigan, Ohio, and Utah winters. My Z71 is on AT's for now, but it has never left me stuck even on slick boat ramps (almost lost my 2wd Ram 1500 on a slick boat ramp pulling out my boat. Had to have a good old boy hook a tow strap on and help me get up to dry pavement). I live in Utah almost a mile above sea level in the mountains and we get snow. Not many 2wd trucks out here unless they are lowered and only driven in the summer. My best friend lives near Los Angeles and he has a huge lift on his 2005 Ram 1500 with 37's. Truck is huge but it's only 2wd. He never gets snow so he hasn't been stuck in the dirt/desert out in California. Point #4: the transfer case on my Z71 had the pump rub a hole through the case. Almost left me stuck in Nebraska on the way back to Utah, had to stop every couple hours and top off the fluid cuz it was leaking all over. Cost $3000 to have that transfer case rebuilt with a new case, billet pump, etc. A 2wd wouldn't have that expense ever.
I bought a lifted 4x2 SR5 2019 Tacoma and it's treated me well!! It has an, I believe a 3" kit or a leveling kit on it and it drives great! I, however did get it stuck a couple weeks back we hen I slid into a ditch coming out if a friend's driveway.... I still love Steel, what I named my Tacoma due to the color, though!
Most people don't need 4x4, and if you do, and want the security, get one. That said, all valid points in the video. Cheaper, less things to go wrong, can usually find them with lower milage and not clapped out or abused. Still a truck.

Drove a Sierra 4x4 leveled 2.5 with 33s for 3 years in MN winter and took it off road with my buddies every summer, never used 4 wheel drive except one time to pull myself out of a snow bank I purposely drove into to challenge a cummins as a joke lol

Ive got a 00 2wd Ranger and an 02 GMC 1500 2wd both stock suspensions and I run my trucks anyplace I want to. Ive had them in 2 feet of snow and mud up to the frames. Part of it is just how you drive it. Both of mine are manual shift, I wouldnt have one any other way.
The hell with what people think! A lifted truck is a lifted truck. Reality is, unless you go off road constantly, you’re in 2wd 99% of the time. I have a 4x4 truck, and live in the northeast. It snows here. A lot. And my next truck for certain, will be 2wd and I’ll lift it. Here’s why. It’s the tires. Even in snowy conditions, I usually never have to put in in 4wd. Most of the time, we drive on paved roads. Roads that get heavily plowed and salted. 4wd just isn’t needed. Your tires are the only thing touching the road. Invest in good tires and watch the “need” for 4x4 disappear… again, I’m talking about the average person. Not somebody that goes mudding or crawling. Normal driving, 2wd is all that’s ever needed

I’ve lifted my 94 2wd Sierra 4 inches and put her on 33x12.50 and I like it so much more now. It looks awesome, the stance is insane and it drives so smooth. Ive owned somewhere around 20 obs chevy’s from 2wd shortbed singlecabs to 4x4 crewcab longbeds and I have to say that this is my favorite truck so far. If you go off-road, snow driving or mudding alot? Get a 4x4. If you dont? Get a 2wd and lift her. Its so easy to install. I started at 8 in the morning and finished 4 hours later. It cost me around 600 bucks for the kit including a set of mint condition (used) 33x12.50’s.

Had a 94 Suburban had a cheap fab tech spindle life tires were all terrains off an h2 had the gov lock rear end. Was an amazing right took it to glamis / dumont it ran everywhere no issues just aired down lol
Hi great video. If ur going off road Then clearance becomes important. I live in British Columbia Canada. so its nice to have a 4x4, but i feel a 2 wheel drive is also ok . The reason being is i would just carry a big winch up front and have it removable to the back of the truck also. Also have 1 or 2 single part pullies can get u out of almost anywhere. 4x4s get stuck also ,so a winch ,a couple of pullies for pulling from different directions , because trees arent always where u want them lol, and of course some extra cable. So to me the only difference is u actually have to get out off ur truck to set up the rigging. So u will be home for dinner just the same lol
I've owned 2 2wd jeep xjs and both are my D.D. I take them camping and such as well and never had the needed 4wd. Just good tires really is all you need for everyday use, a lite lift is just a bonus.
I’ve actually built my 2wd truck to have a shit ton of power under the hood, and just the fact that it’s lighter bc of no transfer case, it’s gotten me outta certain situations with rocks, 2wd make killer rock crawlers
I have 99 Toyota Tacoma pre-runner 2.7 L 2WD with an 2.5in leveling kit n it and 33 Falcon wild peak A/T and I love it. It still gets so many head turns just like a 4x4 would
I had a 93 c1500 single cab long bed , i used to take it to Oceola every weekend to go traill ridinding and muddin . that truck went farther than i ever thought it can go thanks to the g80 locker
Doing this right now, my buddy just bought a clean 99 F150 ,2wd, 4.6 ,auto, we are going to go with a mild 2 inch leveling kit a 32/33 inch tire not too wide trying to stay in the 10:50 to 11 inch area mildly aggressive tire, He really does not need 4x4 right now ,This will give the truck a really good look ,he picked the it up at a very good price so the more we can do to make it look good the more he will get when he flips it in about a year, I've always been a fan of the F-150s about 20 years ago I had a super clean all black 1996 F-150 with windows tinted darker than a black hole lol , a 5.0 auto 4x4 , I really should have kept that truck I kick myself now, there is always those vehicles that you sell and end up regretting, anyway he really wants a 1st gen 4x4 Tacoma extracab, but the right one has not come along yet , I've never been into the lowered look but the one exception I will give is a mildly lowered lightning of the same generation or generation before those are just awesome trucks I've always liked those,, All in all though I agree no reason you can't lift a two-wheel drive to make it look good
I have a 2wd Silverado and will go tru a trail with no problems pulling a small trailer, they will do fine unless it s used for hardcore off roading in my opinion.
In Mexico and south America they are highly desirable.simplicity, inexpensive and capable with lockers.People actually make a living with their pickups there.
I have a 2000 suburban 2 wheel drive. Not looking to spend a ton of money. Really just want it to sit up 2 or 3 inches higher. It's a spare vehicle so it rarely gets driven. Is there a kit on ebay you'd recommend. Like I said it may get drove once a month 15 or 20 miles to town and back.
I got a 2018 chevy crew cab 4x4 and thought about a leveling kit but thinking about it I might lower it.It would be easier to get in and out of after a back surgery .You doing a great job.
I got a 98 two-wheel drive Ford ranger lifted mainly cuz I do construction and a lot of the places we go I need more ground clearance best decision I ever made and it does pretty decent off-road for being just a two-wheel drive
I'm looking at a 2000 S10 2wd that's completely stock. All id do to it is a 1 inch. Maybe a 2 at most. Lift and just slightly bigger all terrain tires. A brush guard and light bar for night time. Maybe later on a roll bar but Id like to have a tool box
In our shop we've repaired quite a few front differentials in 4x4 trucks that have never been offroading in a harsh environment. The parts are expensive, the repair bills are expensive. These are trucks that see 99% street use. After a lot of miles these parts wear out. On another note, the fuel mileage is usually a good bit better in a 2wd. And lockers help.
In idaho, 4 wheel drive is a must. I tried to prove that theory wrong, but then November came around and laughed at me... still got a 2wd because I'm still broke! 😂

I’m not really a Chevy guy so it pains me to include Chevy in this statement but I think Ford and Chevy have done a good job of somewhat keeping that square body/obs look in the newer trucks!!!
The most is do with a 2wd is a 2-3 leveling kit since I’m not a fan of grandpa lean. But yes grandpa trucks are the best trucks to buy. Or I’d lower the rear end to level the truck and loose the grandpa lean and do a street truck build
Lifting aside a 2WD C1500 in good condition is typically more costly now than a K1500 as people want to resto mod the lighter street trucks. Personally prefer lowered 2WD but do what you enjoy.

To piggyback off what you said, you can always put a locker in a 2wd to make it more offroad capable too. Hell, that's probably than 4wd.
I live in Florida where there is no reason for 4X4. But ground clearance in flooding season is very important.

You guys are pussys. I’m in Wisconsin, I throw 500 lbs of sand in the back with winter tires. A g80 locking rear end is the difference here.
If you have a diff lock then 2 will spin
That makes sense for your situation.
Also that’s why WINCHES were invented,not only that looks cool in your truck but also for the 2WD’s to get out of sticky situations

As much as I would love to drop it and go for an old school look, I don’t want to give up the functionality of what makes a truck a truck.
I’ve done a LOT of off roading lifted 2wd trucks.
They work well for desert exploring. Fire roads. Double track. Etc.
Good ground clearance, good tires, and a locking rear will get you pretty far.
Just know your limits.
Stay out of deep sand, deep mud, and wet snow.
They usually ride smoother than a typical torsion bar 4x4 too.
I've got a 2wd and a 4wd truck. My 1991 GMC Sierra 1500 2wd step side is on black wheels and all terrains. Does ok, pulls my boat, haven't been stuck too bad in the snow when I used to drive it, I'd put 400 lbs of sand bags in the bed between the wheel wells and it got me around in Michigan, Ohio, and Utah winters.
My Z71 is on AT's for now, but it has never left me stuck even on slick boat ramps (almost lost my 2wd Ram 1500 on a slick boat ramp pulling out my boat. Had to have a good old boy hook a tow strap on and help me get up to dry pavement). I live in Utah almost a mile above sea level in the mountains and we get snow. Not many 2wd trucks out here unless they are lowered and only driven in the summer.
My best friend lives near Los Angeles and he has a huge lift on his 2005 Ram 1500 with 37's. Truck is huge but it's only 2wd. He never gets snow so he hasn't been stuck in the dirt/desert out in California.
Point #4: the transfer case on my Z71 had the pump rub a hole through the case. Almost left me stuck in Nebraska on the way back to Utah, had to stop every couple hours and top off the fluid cuz it was leaking all over. Cost $3000 to have that transfer case rebuilt with a new case, billet pump, etc. A 2wd wouldn't have that expense ever.

I bought a lifted 4x2 SR5 2019 Tacoma and it's treated me well!! It has an, I believe a 3" kit or a leveling kit on it and it drives great! I, however did get it stuck a couple weeks back we hen I slid into a ditch coming out if a friend's driveway.... I still love Steel, what I named my Tacoma due to the color, though!
2wd are easier...hands down..to each their own..thats why we are in America.

Most people don't need 4x4, and if you do, and want the security, get one. That said, all valid points in the video. Cheaper, less things to go wrong, can usually find them with lower milage and not clapped out or abused. Still a truck.

I just put the 4in rough country lift kit on my 94 silverado. I like it.
Had a 2010 Silverado 2wd, installed a leveling kit and BFG TA/KO2. Thing was a beast in the snow!

Drove a Sierra 4x4 leveled 2.5 with 33s for 3 years in MN winter and took it off road with my buddies every summer, never used 4 wheel drive except one time to pull myself out of a snow bank I purposely drove into to challenge a cummins as a joke lol
You can always convert your 2wd into a 4wd. Making it more capable then a stock 4wd since you have control over the conversion
How much does the conversion usually cost? I heard it’s always better to trade-in your current car for 4wd

Ive got a 00 2wd Ranger and an 02 GMC 1500 2wd both stock suspensions and I run my trucks anyplace I want to. Ive had them in 2 feet of snow and mud up to the frames. Part of it is just how you drive it. Both of mine are manual shift, I wouldnt have one any other way.
The hell with what people think! A lifted truck is a lifted truck. Reality is, unless you go off road constantly, you’re in 2wd 99% of the time. I have a 4x4 truck, and live in the northeast. It snows here. A lot. And my next truck for certain, will be 2wd and I’ll lift it. Here’s why. It’s the tires. Even in snowy conditions, I usually never have to put in in 4wd. Most of the time, we drive on paved roads. Roads that get heavily plowed and salted. 4wd just isn’t needed. Your tires are the only thing touching the road. Invest in good tires and watch the “need” for 4x4 disappear… again, I’m talking about the average person. Not somebody that goes mudding or crawling. Normal driving, 2wd is all that’s ever needed

It looks awesome, the stance is insane and it drives so smooth. Ive owned somewhere around 20 obs chevy’s from 2wd shortbed singlecabs to 4x4 crewcab longbeds and I have to say that this is my favorite truck so far.
If you go off-road, snow driving or mudding alot? Get a 4x4. If you dont? Get a 2wd and lift her.
Its so easy to install. I started at 8 in the morning and finished 4 hours later. It cost me around 600 bucks for the kit including a set of mint condition (used) 33x12.50’s.

Which kit did you use? I have a 95 C1500 5.7 that I'd like to lift. Mainly for looks since I live in FL and don't go offroad.

Hey you’re absolutely right,all I could afford at the time it was a 2WD ram 1500,and boy let me tell you I almost died going thru West Virginia thru snow/mud/ice/up hill and almost ended up in a 30feet drop ditch in the boonies,ohh all of this plus pulling a trailer full of crap! Yeah 4 wheel drive is nice to have every once in a while but honestly a 2wd truck is very capable. I’ve had my 2wd truck for 3 years now and I’ve never needed 4x4. But awesome video!👍🏻
You only really need 4wd on designated 4x4 trails. Or if you get snow or lots of rain on dirt roads. In most cases 2wd is fine.

Had a 94 Suburban had a cheap fab tech spindle life tires were all terrains off an h2 had the gov lock rear end. Was an amazing right took it to glamis / dumont it ran everywhere no issues just aired down lol
Hi great video. If ur going off road Then clearance becomes important. I live in British Columbia Canada. so its nice to have a 4x4, but i feel a 2 wheel drive is also ok . The reason being is i would just carry a big winch up front and have it removable to the back of the truck also. Also have 1 or 2 single part pullies can get u out of almost anywhere. 4x4s get stuck also ,so a winch ,a couple of pullies for pulling from different directions , because trees arent always where u want them lol, and of course some extra cable. So to me the only difference is u actually have to get out off ur truck to set up the rigging. So u will be home for dinner just the same lol

I've owned 2 2wd jeep xjs and both are my D.D. I take them camping and such as well and never had the needed 4wd. Just good tires really is all you need for everyday use, a lite lift is just a bonus.

I’ve actually built my 2wd truck to have a shit ton of power under the hood, and just the fact that it’s lighter bc of no transfer case, it’s gotten me outta certain situations with rocks, 2wd make killer rock crawlers

I have 99 Toyota Tacoma pre-runner 2.7 L 2WD with an 2.5in leveling kit n it and 33 Falcon wild peak A/T and I love it. It still gets so many head turns just like a 4x4 would
They are good looking and look even better with a little bit of a lift added 2 wheel drive or not
#1 benefit of 2wd is much less cost for maintenance and repair of front end components. #2 is better handling,lighter and a little better mpg

I had a 93 c1500 single cab long bed , i used to take it to Oceola every weekend to go traill ridinding and muddin . that truck went farther than i ever thought it can go thanks to the g80 locker
Doing this right now, my buddy just bought a clean 99 F150 ,2wd, 4.6 ,auto, we are going to go with a mild 2 inch leveling kit a 32/33 inch tire not too wide trying to stay in the 10:50 to 11 inch area mildly aggressive tire, He really does not need 4x4 right now ,This will give the truck a really good look ,he picked the it up at a very good price so the more we can do to make it look good the more he will get when he flips it in about a year, I've always been a fan of the F-150s about 20 years ago I had a super clean all black 1996 F-150 with windows tinted darker than a black hole lol , a 5.0 auto 4x4 , I really should have kept that truck I kick myself now, there is always those vehicles that you sell and end up regretting, anyway he really wants a 1st gen 4x4 Tacoma extracab, but the right one has not come along yet ,
I've never been into the lowered look but the one exception I will give is a mildly lowered lightning of the same generation or generation before those are just awesome trucks I've always liked those,,
All in all though I agree no reason you can't lift a two-wheel drive to make it look good

I have a 2wd Silverado and will go tru a trail with no problems pulling a small trailer, they will do fine unless it s used for hardcore off roading in my opinion.
In Mexico and south America they are highly desirable.simplicity, inexpensive and capable with lockers.People actually make a living with their pickups there.

I have a 2000 suburban 2 wheel drive. Not looking to spend a ton of money. Really just want it to sit up 2 or 3 inches higher. It's a spare vehicle so it rarely gets driven. Is there a kit on ebay you'd recommend. Like I said it may get drove once a month 15 or 20 miles to town and back.
Lifted mine to clear some ruts at my hunting lease. Didn’t need 4wd just clearance.
I've been thinking about doing this for a min. Gonna add a bully bar and a winch for getting outta sketchy boat ramps.

I got a 2018 chevy crew cab 4x4 and thought about a leveling kit but thinking about it I might lower it.It would be easier to get in and out of after a back surgery .You doing a great job.
I got a 98 two-wheel drive Ford ranger lifted mainly cuz I do construction and a lot of the places we go I need more ground clearance best decision I ever made and it does pretty decent off-road for being just a two-wheel drive
I'm looking at a 2000 S10 2wd that's completely stock. All id do to it is a 1 inch. Maybe a 2 at most. Lift and just slightly bigger all terrain tires. A brush guard and light bar for night time. Maybe later on a roll bar but Id like to have a tool box

In our shop we've repaired quite a few front differentials in 4x4 trucks that have never been offroading in a harsh environment. The parts are expensive, the repair bills are expensive. These are trucks that see 99% street use. After a lot of miles these parts wear out. On another note, the fuel mileage is usually a good bit better in a 2wd. And lockers help.
You put more. Mud tires on a two-wheel drive makes it harder. To get stuck

I’m not really a Chevy guy so it pains me to include Chevy in this statement but I think Ford and Chevy have done a good job of somewhat keeping that square body/obs look in the newer trucks!!!

The most is do with a 2wd is a 2-3 leveling kit since I’m not a fan of grandpa lean. But yes grandpa trucks are the best trucks to buy. Or I’d lower the rear end to level the truck and loose the grandpa lean and do a street truck build
Lifting aside a 2WD C1500 in good condition is typically more costly now than a K1500 as people want to resto mod the lighter street trucks.
Personally prefer lowered 2WD but do what you enjoy.
