- Welcome back to boxing after dark in todays video we look at Julio César Chávez debut bout in USA against the slick and fast Roger Mayweather. In what was being told to be a big 50/50 bout between the pair for the WBC World Super Feather championship

Yet he rarely features in any conversation about all time greats.
Boxing fans now don't actually know s##t. The 80s and 90s were a golden age for boxing.
@@kingsrd1 The problem is that while Chavez is indeed an all time great, his resume is also littered with a lots of stiffs and struggled vs the top guys he faced. I am saying this and Chavez is one of my all time great fighters but the facts are the facts.
@@juliohernandez3323 ueah homie but he beat well known world champs. He never said no to anybody or cherry picked like other so called all time great like gayweather

Maybe not in all time great convo because he isn’t American. People will say he struggled against some competition ..everyone struggles a bit ..yet 89-0 🤯,but Floyd is 50-0 and is in all time great convo .(yet Julio 89-0)
Exactly what I'm saying, people overlook him for whatever reason, but todays boxers don't have the fights against worthy opposition, So that's no excuse.
Mayweather definitely deserves some credit, fought some great fighters earlier in his career, but also bolstered his record with easier opponents later on.
Lil Floyd learned 3 great lessons from his uncle; 1-Dont fight ranked Mexicans in their prime, 2-Dont fight ranked Filipinos in their prime (they are just like Mexicans), 3; Promote yourself and only fight who you know you can absolutely without a doubt beat!!!!
Canelo?
😂😂😂
Imagine if Chavez was Ameeeeerican? Imagine how all the GOOD OLD BOYS would just LOVE him and how much more $$$$ Chavez would have??? But knowing the American way, they would ask Chavez to chance his last name to Chevelle and his 1st name to Jules. lol right???
That's what Canelo is doing now. He learned from Mayweather.

This man Julio César Chávez Sr will always be remembered as a boxing goat and one of the greatest to ever lace em up. Not just by the proud Mexican community but by boxing fans worldwide.
Unfortunately his drug abuse, bad/unhealthy money spending habits and his wife almost divorcing him due to his bad habits was what had something to do with his downfall towards the end of his epic career. Not to take anything away from the skilled boxers that beat him during the end of his career. But no doubt a mentally and physically healthy Julio would have performed differently.

He is talked about by core boxing fans.. the non mainstream acknowledgement of it confuses me too.

Was always excited to see Chavez fight, I knew he wasn't going to run. One of the most exciting fighters ever. He overstayed his visit in the ring. In his younger days he would have beat all the ones he lost to. But that's what happens in boxing. Mexicans call him la leyenda or the legend. Never saw him give a boring fight. Eres El campeon Chavez. Heart of a lion.

@natturner-xo2rb lol, just came back from cherry picking with him.
@natturner-xo2rbYour rebuttal is pointless because Floyd's career was pathetic once he became Money Mayweather. I always love your research, detailed breakdowns, great footage, and dramatic and poetic work! NOBODY does it better, B.A.D.!
Chavez probably has the most underrated DEFENSE of all time. His head movement was the stuff of legends. They kept trying to paint mayweather as the better "boxer" just because chavez was aggressive and came forward, but that's nonsense. Chavez was the more skilled boxer and it showed both times they fought.
Best inside fight game ever. What nobody talks about is how he used that left arm to block and parry to completely disarm and dismantle his opponents right side. Then you gotta worry about the hook coming for your head or liver less than a nano second?
Yes indeed
Mayweather was way past his prime and was mediocre at best as a fighter. He wasn't even a candidate for the HOF as a fighter. Stop it. They paddled his record with tomato cans & cab drivers. The sanctioning bodies allowed this because guess where they were located? IN MEXICO. Those same crooked sanctioning bodies allowed a fighter (JCC) with 80 plus professional fights, fight a fighter fresh out the amateurs ( Medrick Taylor) and Richard Steele STILL had to rescue JCC. That's still considered the biggest robbery in boxing history. If those sanctioning bodies allowed that fight to allow that fight to take place today, they be charged with attempted murder
The most disciplined n the most talented fighter that we know in the era of 1985 - 1995. And the most fundamental text book fighter ever. Quite assuredly indeed.

Chavez destroyed that philly shell with overhand rights. Sweet since from the GOAT chavez.
Rodger didnt even use the philly shell in this fight. Casauls 😂😂😂😂
@hortinus must be a Mayweather fan, those fans live in fake reality. When pressured, he clearly defends with his lead hand protecting his stomach and his rear hand covering above it. 😂😂😂 Maybe watch the fight again, fan boy.
Why Chavez doesn't get credit on his defense? He was one the most efficient defense fighters; his defense would give him the split of second to counter attack with so much accuracy needless to say about his ring cutting foot work phenomenal.. I don't understand why trainers outthere haven't studied him in detail. He was no flashy on his foot and hand move- no big moves, and speaking of short and efficient moves hands and foot, he was in another level , and his body structure to strike always ready to punch with so much power from any angle. THE GOAT.
Maybe he's like Ali - you can't teach that, they have it or don't, Dundee basically said he taught Ali nothing

Funny how the “Unknown” challenger had 44-0
He wasn't a name in the sport at the time. This was only his second defence and third major fight in the US. His first 39 fights were basically prelim/novice stuff in Mexico as a teenager, as Chavez turned pro at 17 after a very short amateur career. His first significant opponent had been Adrian Arreola, who was a fringe contender type, a little less than 2 years before the first Mayweather fight.

I admired how Roger Mayweather opologized for the punch after the bell, and Julio Chavez accepted his opology. True sportsmanship.
Long before Julio Cesar Chávez became a World Champion,
he was scheduled to fight in Los Angeles.
During the previous days before the fight,
he and one of his brothers visited the newspaper office La Opinion.
They were interviewed.
Julio Cesar told about his dreams and hopes.
He wanted everything for his family,
to help to put a bread on the table,
to buy a house for her mom, etc.
The interview was published
and I was fortunate enough to read it in the sports section.
He won his fight in Los Angeles,
and from there he went on
to become a legend.
He's top 5 of best boxers in history.
he was an inspirational man that find a skill to atack and defend at the same time . rnp.

I must say ,the two greatest fighters in the history of boxing are holeo cazar Chavez ,and Floyd Mayweather Jr the difference is Mayweather wins backward movement ,Chavez wins all moving forward. Roger was a great fighter as well ,in a class with all great fighters. 🙏 Roger ,rest in peace.
Floyd "Chicken" Mayweather, the greatest chicken.
Chavez was a beast. Is an all-time great. But lost to Whitaker in my estimation.
Excellent !
TWO great fighters
Julio started using drugs like 2 years before of his first lost. This man was unbeatable. If he would have retired when he had 89-0, he maybe would have been the first in the rank in pound4pound in all time boxing history. Chavez has been called the best mexica fighter of all time and it's super misleading by a lot of expert, he is one of the best fighter of all time not only in Mexico, it was for the whole world. He had chin, stamina, defense, and he put a nonstop pressure to obliterate any fighter, he was a real machine, he can win any fight in any era, no matter for that beast. He fought against 27 world champions. In my opinion is the best second boxer of all time behind Sugar Ray Robinson. Sugar Ray Robinson had a record of 129 and 1 before he lost to Randy Turpin and the first time he retired at the age of 32 years old he had 132-3.
boxing is funny because its often internal pain and struggle that gets them into the ring and motivates their success, but if they let they pain eat them instead of dealing with it and growing with it and evolving it will eventually kill them
