    Those 2 Honda blade bolts are M10-1.25mm. The center bolt is usually 3/8-24tpi. I nearly ruined mine and had to investigate because I was missing the outside 2 bolts on my garbage mower. I actually took the first engine (2008) and put it on a 2020 new Honda deck. Self propelled functions ok and the belt guard was deleted but the belt could possibly slip off. Big deal. Easy to get to.

    You should make a video demonstrating how to swap motors on different size decks. I have a 19" with bad motor and a 21" with good motor. You can't find the 19" anymore, so I wonder how difficult it would be to swap the motor off the 21" onto the 19".

    General comment on these speed swaps....
    Dont anyone clean shit before ripping it off and putting it on? Can probably get this done in 5 min if you wanted to.. still nice to present something for sale or have it last an extra year for an extra hours worth of work?? No??

  • @qunicetoole7497

    That's the reason you shouldn't speed rush yourself doing an engine replacement small or large, cuz far too many variables come up to cause problems, for example stuck throttle cable, rusty bolt head breaks or wrong size installment bolts etc... If it took me an hour, I'd rather take my time and do it right! without being pressured by a clock, to do it within 20 minutes, which is totally unrealistic. just saying!✌

    I think I missed something. The Troybilt frame had 3 mounting holes (120 degrees) and the Honda engine you mounted was a 4 hold mount, suggesting that it came off of a Honda frame. How did you get the mounting to match up? Also, are you able to test compression with the engines on the bench or do they need to be mounted/ blade attached to give an accurate reading? Thanks!

    • @JeffsLittleEngineService
      @JeffsLittleEngineService  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got lucky on this one, things matched up! there are usually extra holes already pre drilled in most decks for other engine fitments. The blade acts as a counterweight on lawnmower engines. I nearly ripped my arm off once trying to start a lawnmower without the blade on it(backfire). I would check compression while the engine is mounted for sure.

    • @cherokeefiddler
      @cherokeefiddler 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Let me ask in different words... can you accurately use a compression gauge on an engine that is on the bench? (not trying to start it on the bench):-)

    interesting video - hey my girlfriend bought a used mower off a guy that had done an engine swap. But the problem is the engine he put on sits about 1/2 inch too low on the deck so the only way to use the mower is to set it at the highest wheel setting and even then it cuts the grass super low. I have been trying to think of a way to raise the engine 3/4 of an inch -someone suggested just adding washers to the mounting bolts But that would leave a large air gap for stuff to fly out. Any thoughts or suggestions ? thanks

    I have a Honda engine of the same model. It starts and runs fine, but has no compression. My question is this: Should I sell it as is, or replace the rings, hone the cylinder and do a valve job on it to keep it? I am about 50/50 on the subject... It does have an electric starter, after all.

    • @JeffsLittleEngineService

    • @cherokeefiddler
      @cherokeefiddler 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is not my channel but I would offer that the shaft is the key component. Either you have the proper length for the belt pully or you can only power a non-self-propelled mower. If you are going the other way (SP to push mower) your shaft may be too long, in which you can mount a spacer above deck to take up the extra length of the shaft.
