These are designed to be used in conjunction with the factory cooler in the radiator, not to replace it. The factory coolers are liquid-to-liquid coolers, which are, by far, the most efficient at transferring heat. Air-to-liquid (like the B&M) are less efficient, therefore by removing the factory cooler from the circuit, you have decreased the overall capability to cooler the transmission.
All of our B&M Racing SuperCoolers are designed and recommended to be add-on (in conjunction with) the factory cooling system. They are not designed to be a stand-alone replacement for the factory cooling system (oil, P.S. fluid, ATF or coolant). Most if not all late model vehicles have the transmission cooler integrated into the radiator (automatics only of course) and larger vehicles that need additional oil cooling will usually have a secondary, OEM oil cooler installed on or near the radiator. If you have any questions about the benefits of a B&M Racing SuperCooler on your vehicle please give us a call at 707-544-4761. - Jason @ B&M Racing
The choice for fittings and lines will depend on which SuperCooler is purchased. We offer four different styles of SuperCooolers some that come with installation brackets and/or hardware. If you prefer AN style fittings and braided lines as seen in the video our friends over at JEGS or Summit Racing can get you all set up. If you have additional questions please do not hesitate to call us at 707-544-4761. - Jason @ B&M
That was my first question. Don't you need additional transmission fluid to compensate for the volume that is now running through that cooler. Not sure how much is required, but that makes sense.
adam lambert Of course. The fluid level should always be checked and maintained based on the dipstick. No matter what's added. When they installed the deeper pan they had to check the level and add.
OK. I want to install a non-fanned trans cooler on my Chevy Astro, which sees a LOT of gravel/rock/"back country" roads in Death, Panamint and Johnson Valleys, in southern CA, and elsewhere in the west. You say to NOT mount the cooler using hard brackets. Won't the weight of the cooler, combined with all that vertical vibration, tear up my A/C condenser? It seems, to me anyway, that those plastic rods would be good for a street driven car, but would rip the fins right out of my condenser in short order.
When installing a B&M Supercooler we recommend using the B&M Easy Mounting Kit, part #80278. The nylon mounting rods should not be "run" through the fins on your condenser or radiator. The Supercooler should be mounted to custom brackets or onto the radiator support itself, ensuring that the rubber isolators are also utilized. As stated, this cooler needs to be mounted in a manner so that it will flex with the vehicle when needed. If the Supercooler is mounted on or in front of the radiator then yes. However the included fan may not sufficiently cool both radiator and Supercooler in the same fashion that a full size “pusher” fan would.
bought a 70274 model, but i don't think i can install it in front of the radiator. can i install it somewhere else and what's your recommendation? and another question will be, is it necessary to have a fan on the cooler?
There are a number of ways to mount our B&M Supercoolers. Because every application varies you may or may not need a unit that adds a fan. Feel free to reach out to us at 707-544-4761 and we will happily discuss the different cooling options available for your vehicle.
Yes, it is. The B&M SuperCooler is universal and can be mounted in a number of different ways and in different locations on the vehicle. We offer a large selection of SuperCoolers that will be beneficial for all applications. I have included a link to all of the B&M SuperCoolers below. A more detailed install would have been great.

Do you need to add more transmission fluid to make up for the volume of the cooler?
YES! common sense here.
Seriously..because two shop owners told me no...I guess common sense isn't common for everyone...lol😏
Install one. Then run around the block to fill the lines. Then check your tranny dipstick. Most local mechanics are boneheads.
yes you do half to 1 quart run it to temp and add as needed
Yes sir!
They did not say where they got the braided hose or what fittings they used to connect the lines to the factory hard lines. Were these b&m parts?

So the fan blows through the cooler and through the radiator helping to cool both, is this correct.

both radiator and Supercooler in the same fashion that a full size “pusher” fan would.
Looking for a trans oil cooler for a 7.3 powerstroke any suggestions
