The thing I'm concerned about is if they don't resolve the dispute over An Unearthly Child it will spoil the Blu-Ray season one boxset when that eventually arrives.
The fact Tennant's return is even somewhat controversial is astounding to me. I saw some using it as "proof" that the BBC was "desperate". Occam's Razor says the most obvious answer is probably correct. Russell loved working with him and the 60th is a celebration of the show's past. Obviously bringing back the favorite "modern" Doctor is a no brainer.
@@jarnoppdoesn't that depend on whether they're doing a good or bad job? And even more crucially: how they're treating those fans? Taking an exclusionary or adversarial tone with one's own audience is never good move. Makes far less sense. Enjoyed your video Jason. All the best.
Hey there, @@type40doctorwho ! Really glad you enjoyed the video. I know what you're saying, but I think there's a sliding scale of anti-BBC sentiment, right? Feels like there's a vast gulf between fans who rightly protest when the BBC doesn't behave well towards fans... and fans who just seem to resent the BBC full-stop? You know what I mean? 🤔
I think those episodes are in the extra section because the whole serial has been animated, including the existing surviving episodes and they put those in the respective seasons
Hey there! Ah yes, that makes sense. So they do that rather than have two versions of the same episode side by side. Cheers! Are you happy with this new array of delights?
Amazing that the entire Dr Who run is on iplayer. Last time I watched the entire classic run was on the Twitch Dr Who Marathon in spring 2018. It was so much fun with the live chat too. I no longer have a TV licence so sadly won’t be dipping into Dr Who on iplayer, but that’s OK as I did watch that Twitch marathon 😊
@@jarnopp yes, it was one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had. A fun community of like-minded people had got together to watch the shows from across U.K., Europe and US, and many of us would be in the chat writing to each other in the day even when the marathon wasn’t broadcasting in the evenings. I think it took something like 3 months, at 7 evenings a week, to get through the classic series. Oh, and then there was the Torchwood marathon at the end. As you might imagine, there were some real characters in the chat 😊 The Classic Dr Who Marathon ran again on Twitch from Jan the following year, but I wasn’t involved in that. Once was fine, i felt the second was too soon. Maybe if it had been a Dr Who reboot marathon, I might’ve turned up for it
Finally Doctor Who is getting the treatment it deserves, love the Whoniverse on iplayer, I have a feeling that more content will be added as we go along this anniversary month, good to see you Jason, great upload.
Jason, thank you so much for this deep dive on The Whoniverse! I appreciated seeing Sir Pat Stew and the fine editing job you did adding sfx and such. I hope Disney+ has something like this for us in the States.
I've already watched a lot. Tales of the Tardis is a really good jumping off point for someone like me who hasn't seen too much of the classic series and I think they've chosen six really excellent serials for that. Curse of Fenric blew me away. I had no idea classic Who went that hard. And the Three Doctors one, having Clyde and Jo Grant in there book ending that one I found rather nostalgic. It's always nice to see some love given to Sarah Jane Adventures. I may have to give it a rewatch now. And I think I've found my new favourite Doctor in Patrick Trouton. All in all I'm just happy all this stuff is now so easily acceccable. It deserves to be seen.
Hey there! How wonderful to hear from someone who's relatively new to the classic series and is getting well into it! Love that. Glad you're enjoying the Whoniverse already. 👊🎃 Thanks for your TOTT thoughts!
I dreamed of a repository like this when I was a kid. Decades later, here it finally is! Makes me feel old though, as I watched 20th anniversary special‘The Five Doctors’ on its original transmission…. and we’re now only a few weeks from the 60th. I’ve travelled into the future….. very slowly! 😖
Hey Anthony! I know what you mean - I was right there, watching The Five Doctors too! I guess slow forward time travel is at least preferable to the speedy sort. 😆👊
I went and had a look, and I was so overwhelmed, I couldn't decide what to watch and left again! I have seen all of classic Who before though, and it's so wonderful to see it all there, I'm looking forward to diving in and rewatching some favourites :)
Hey there! Yes indeed, I know what you mean - the content of the Whoniverse is every bit as overwhelming as the name itself suggests. :) I also have yet to choose anything to watch. 😆
Classic Doctor Who was recently removed from our version of BritBox, which I was a little sad about. Obviously that had to happen so the Whoniverse could be created on BBC iPlayer but the unfortunate issue is those outside the UK won’t have access to that archive of stories. Well, not without a VPN.
I am bang into this. They recently put the whole Red Dwarf back catalogue on too (and as you know, I'm a hardcore Dwarfer) so this is awesome for old skool sci fi nutters like us.
Just showed my kids thebintro and outro to the time warrior (which, coincidentally we watched last month with no clue it would be picked like this) and they loved it! Surprised that the 50th annoversary dramadocumentary of the creation of the show isnt on there. Same rights issues as the unearthly child? Otherwise, looks fantastic. Confused why some episodes of lost stories are in extras whilst others are in main series list however. Thanks for summarising!
Hey there, glad you enjoyed - and that your kids are getting a kick out of The Time Warrior! :) I guess that various docs are missing, but I doubt that'll be the case forever. Good to see I'm not the only one confused about the 'extra' eps! 👊☺
I haven't ever seen much classic Who; I've only ever watched what was aired in the run-up to the 50th anniversary. I am, however, a HUGE fan of the revived series, so am buzzing to finally see the classics! Modern Who loves to reference the classics, so I know a few things that I've picked up over the years.
Hi! I love that lots of people are now going to have a much greater opportunity to go back and check out classic Who! Love that you're excited about that exploration. 😊👊🎃
The absolute original version of The Five Doctors has the Cyberman over the hill when spotting the Master go "Aah!" triumphantly. That was scrubbed by the second version of the VHS. We are blocked from iPlayer so I'd be curious to know if it has that little egg in it. Also is The Adventure in Time and Space there? Loved that docudrama
@@ExplosiveAction I'm 99% sure the Blu-ray collection contains all the different cuts/edits of The Five Doctors with options to use either the original analogue SFX or the newer CGI effects that were made for the DVD, so everyone's happy.
Nice they sorted the rights issue that stopped reign of terror from being on britbox . Feel shalka should be there as well even if it’s just under the extras category
Is the docudrama about the genesis of Doctor Who, "An Adventure in Space and Time" (2013) on there? I think it's especially important for that to be part of the collection now that "An Unearthly Child" isn't.
I see many fans kicking off over The Unearthly Child situation. But let's be real it's only the first episode of that story which is worth watching the other 3 episodes are well rather crap. Also most Who fans will have the story already on dvd lol
