William Hartnell, the 1st Doctor, lived for a few years after he left his role in Doctor Who. The BBC didn’t replace the actor because he died. They replaced him because he was ill and couldn’t perform the role well any more. He had tremendous difficulty remembering his lines which you can definitely see in the later episodes. The show was popular, so they came up with the regeneration idea to replace Hartnell with another actor. Worked out well for all us fans and a key piece of the Who lore was born.❤

Capaldi is my fav, and his time on the show is VERY dedicated towards exploration of the character of The Doctor. A lot of the choices made about Matt Smith's doctor not focusing character driven moments are (probably not intentional, but) integral to his arc regarding the time war. Eccleston was angry, fresh out of the fight and Tennant was the sadness left over once 9's rage was had burned out. 11's time on the show being less focused on character becomes an important stylistic choice because it signifies how the Doctor plans to use his last regeneration, NOT focused on himself. Helping people, doing the last bits of good he can before what he thinks is a guaranteed death. When he gains that secondary set of regenerations, Capaldi's first actions all become about asking himself who he is, what it means to be The Doctor after every bit of joy and pain he's gone through. The four Doctors all culminate into a very impressive piece of longform narrative with that in mind. It's extra neat considering there's no chance they planned it that way lol

@@KnightlyReviews I think that sweet spot from 2005-2017 is one of the best pieces of longform character writing I’ve seen from ANY TV show. Obviously not every piece of it was intentional, but the throughline is there from start to finish about overcoming a cosmic degree of grief and shame and the way it culminates at the end is beautiful. For me personally, that arc is what makes the show worth watching. When you finish watching Capaldi’s seasons I hope it all clicks!

    • @SpencyRockMC
      @SpencyRockMC 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +34

OH and to follow up on the idea behind this video specifically:
Viewing each doctor isolated, the favorite doctor often becomes Tennant because A) the show was peak popularity back then and B) his Doctor needs the most emotional support out of any, while still retaining traits that make him “The Doctor.” I firmly believe Smith realistically could’ve achieved similar heights if Seasons 6 & 7 didn’t struggle as much in the writing department. And Eccleston could’ve too if he wasn’t cut short, but him being cut short was for the best IMO because without that his finale would have no stakes.
Meanwhile, if you view every doctor as ONE character, and ONE narrative, the favorite often becomes Capaldi. We’ve seen him rage and struggle and ignore his problems as staple features of his past regenerations, so watching 12 tackle them head on means all the emotional support 10 got has payoff. Seasons 8-10 explore the character and wrap up the continued plot lines from prior seasons really efficiently.

Hartnell wasn’t that old actually. He did have a heart condition which resulted in his death years after he left the role.😢 He was only 55 when he was cast as Doctor Who - about the same age as Capaldi when he took on the role. Difference was Hartnell became extremely ill while playing the Doctor.

Chris Ecclestone was more convincing than Peter Capaldi. On paper, they had the same arc but Capaldi simply wasn't as good an actor as Ecclestone was.
On paper 13 (yes THIRTEEN, not twelve) should have been the best Doctor. In practice, 10 was the best. John Hurt was almost wasted as 9 and should have swapped places with Peter Capaldi.

Even more so, I would say that Capaldi's interpretation of the Doctor not only makes a bridge between styles and tempos of Old-school DW and modern Who every now and then, but also brings back the elements of storytelling characteristic to Tennant's era, which you discussed in the video. Still the differences between the first four and the next six seasons of the show can be explained by the change in seat of the showrunner (duh, obviously, sry)

Season 10 was the worst garbage the show had been until that point, and arguably worse than Chibnall Who(aggressively stupid vs bland, dunno which is worse)
Bill seemed like the season was written to have changing companion each episode, but they decided that casting different actors was too bothersome, so they just used the same character for all of them. You had literal "it was all a dream" episode, Missy was acting like really stupid fanfiction version of the character, and scifi-concepts utilized were so poorly thought out and carelessly executed, each episode felt more like a half-finished first draft where actors had to improv the rest. That's partly due to 10's lack of bitter rage and self-loathing that 9 had from the war.
9 had begun to heal and form a strong bond with Rose prior to the regeneration into 10.
In doing so, 9 tried to hold onto all the survivors' guilt from the War Doctor's actions to let his new incarnation grow from there.
Though unsuccessful in holding onto all of it, 9 did project a wish to become someone who could at least grow into a more positive person for Rose.
10 had his moments of unbridled rage and sorrowful reflections on his past lives. But was able to grow from there until he lost Rose seemingly forever.
The new loss compounded upon his existing problems. As such, he grew more distant from others, always keeping them at arms length. Until he lost Donna and lost Rose again, this time for good. With his only solace being the metacrisis half human copy of him going with her.
He became insufferably arrogant. No one had the right to question or challenge his decisions after that.
I hated the later era of 10's run, only for it to be topped off with his uncharacteristic (For the Doctor) angry rant at Wilf for getting trapped in the chamber.
Less as Wilf himself and more at the fact that 10 was willing to let the random guy die, but couldn't let Donna's grandad die. Angry that he was guaranteed to regenerate into what he believed to be his last incarnation.
I hated the long goodbye send tour of him visiting his previous companions and the "I don't want to go" line at the end.
It felt disrespectful to whoever would come next, that 10 would be able to have this special long-winded goodbye tour on top of his angry rant at the situation with Wilf and the final line.
It was just too much, at the end after that last stretch of the timelord victorious and carried through arrogance there after.
11 was great for being the manic obsessive attempting to do as much good as possible before he died. As he believed it to be his last incarnation, he felt an obligation to go hard and fast at every issue that he found.
Only to have the resignation of his ultimate demise, all but confirmed to him in the alternate timeline when travelling to his own Tomb of the Tardis with Clara.
He felt as though Clara had done more than enough by leaping into his time stream, but she came back at the end of his cenuries long defence of Chrismas on Trenzalore.
Her appeal to the timelords being granted and the Doctor being granted an unspecified amount of new regenerations.
12 was great in that he was trying to find himself, both literally initially and figuratively throughout his run.
Always questioning why THIS face? What was he trying to tell himself with that?
Why is Clara still important after the Impossible Girl event had already taken place?
All of them have had great moments and bad through their incarnations up to 12, but only 10 had what I personally view as a period of being unbearable and uncharacteristic to who the Doctor is or ought to be at his core.

Of New Who, Eccleston stands out as the best. His hardened post-war characterisation and eventual softening towards Rose were great in execution.
Eccleston also voluntarily received less for his time as the Doctor to help ensure it's funding was not stretched on his account.
He loved being the Doctor, a childhood dream come true, and it shows.
Both of which are bonuses in his favour, as he did it for the love of the series and character rather than the money.
He had his happy and silly moments, which never seemed out of place for his contrasting, internalised suffering.
The latter of which would surface less and less, the more time he spent with Rose.
Great overall era that was done perfectly.

@@soulsurvivor8293 That's a great write up about the doctors! Personally I don't dislike Tennant's specials that come after Donna. His Doctor was always the most human one, and I understand that some view it as a flaw but personally I enjoyed that take on the character!

It is very human to be afraid of death, and view regeneration like we, the human audience do - he dies, and someone new and different comes along.
You're right, he is arrogant. He was told he was going to die after he hears 4 knocks, then he defeats the Master who he thought was gonna be responsible for his own demise. That's it, right? He just defeated the prophecy, the death itself, he's unstoppable! But it all comes crashing down because apparently it was Wilf all along who'd knock. Wouldn't you feel bitter and betrayed? Not necessarily by Wilf but by circumstance itself, by - I dunno, universe? Everyone?
That's how I see it - although much like you, I didn't enjoy the goodbye tour, now that was definitely taking it too far. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it as much as I did. Have you seen his return to the role? What did you think of that?

During his era of the show, the writing was much more character focused, so like, even if I think an episodes plot is bad, I still get to enjoy the character development and chemistry between the companions and the doctor. But starting with Smith's run, the writing starts focusing more on plot, so when plot falls apart, and it often does, there isn't anything to really fall back on. Not to say there is no characterization or character development from Smith onward, just that it takes a backseat.

My issue with Matt Smith’s portrayal of the Doctor is that he completely fails to capture the “old man in young person’s body” feel of the character. That, and when the Doctor is supposed to be infuriated, he comes across as a child having a tantrum, rather than expressing “the fury of a Time Lord”. Also, compare the “I’m the Doctor” moments, that each character playing the Doctor has, or should have. His are the weakest. And, finally, monologuing. Here Capaldi is king, with Tennant a close second, and Eccleston a closer third. Whitaker doesn’t really get a decent “Doctor” moment, or a decent monologue, due to the less than stellar writing she had to work with.
Capaldi’s “War” speech in the Zygon story is a masterclass in monologuing, and he has many other great moments. Tenant’s “I’m the Doctor” speech from the Christmas special with the Titanic is stellar, and is one of many. Eccleston has a handful of great speeches, which is remarkable, given he only has thirteen episodes to work with. But Matt Smith? People always say his “Come On” speech is fantastic, but it doesn’t move me at all. His “Let someone else try first” speech leaves me cold. And so on.
      All IMO, of course.
OP, once you have finished NuWho, and NewerWho, on Disney+, do yourself a favour, and find a way to watch the Classic show, starting with Hartnell. There are missing episodes for the first few seasons, with Hartnell and Troughton, but you can watch everything else (and even watch productions by “Loose Cannon”, on the Internet Archive, for the missing episodes. These are mostly just audio of the missing episodes, with stills of what is going on, but also some decent cgi to keep your interest).
It is a different show, with a shoestring budget, and each season is a product of its time, but the stories are still top notch. Every Doctor has a handful of stories that are classics. “Our” Doctor really doesn’t begin to surface until the events of “The Dales”, and “The Daley Invasion of Earth”, during the Hartnell era. Up to that point, he is more of a scientist and traveller, and kind of selfish. But he starts his long journey as a protector, once he realises how dangerous the Daleks are to everything else, and determines they need to be stopped.
Apologies for the long rant… 😊

As someone who has been watching Doctor Who since Jon Pertwee (the 3rd Doctor) in the 70’s, all the Doctors have good points. ( Even though I didn’t care much for the Sixth Doctor’s era, Colin Baker is one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met) David Tennant and Peter Capaldi were genuine fans of the classic show and I think that love is reflected in their performances. David Tennant loved Doctor Who so much he even married the doctor’s daughter in more ways than one. His wife, Georgia Moffat, both played the Doctor’s daughter in the series and is Peter Davison’s (the fifth Doctor ) daughter in real life. I didn’t even mind Jodie Whitaker, though I think she was given poor direction and the writing was abysmal. Each Doctor is different by design, and it’s only natural that people being different, have different favorites.

This idea that the RTD era focused more on the characters and the Moffat era focused more on plot is completely incorrect and I have absolutely no idea why people continually parrot it as if its the truth.
The Moffat era is entirely built on character, all of the plot that everyone goes on about is just about the characters. The Alliance trap the Doctor in the Pandorica because they're scared of him and the things he could do, like with the Time Lord Victorious. The cracks in time are a metaphor for Amy's traumatic childhood, which is why when its fixed in the finale its framed as giving her parents back, fixing her trauma. The Silence try to assassinate the Doctor because they're scared of him too, again because of things like the Time Lord Victorious. They kidnap Amy's kid to try and turn her into a Time Lord weapon because they're scared of him and what he can do. The entire era is about the effect the Doctor has on the people around him and the universe in general and how he needs to learn to be more careful about his actions. This is all character work, the entire thing is built around the characters and their relationships. To reduce it down to just "focusing way more on the plots" is to miss everything that's happening in that era.
Whereas the RTD era is just random shit happening. Its so much more focused on the plot than the characters. Because seriously, what on earth does Davros wanting to blow up the universe have to do with the Doctor or Donna? What does Cybermen invading through Torchwood tower have to do with Rose and 10 and their relationship? The RTD era is the plot focused one! Its all about big epic random alien plots happening that have nothing to do with our main characters. The series 4 finale is the biggest example imo. Donna is in the background for most of it, all but forgotten since we're focusing on everyone else returning. Then she gets basically put in a trance and lured towards the Doctors hand. Then turned into the Doctor Donna without any knowledge of what's going on. Then forcefully mindwiped. Donna had absolutely no agency or choice or anything that was going on with her in that story, she literally just becomes a plot device. How can people argue that this was the character focused era?
When there are character moments in the RTD era they're not really related to the plot thats happening. There are character moments and then separately there is a big plot like Daleks attacking or something. In the Moffat era its much more common for them to be the same. It is full of character moments, and then the plot is usually just about more character moments.
What I really think it is is just that many people prefer the soap opera style characterization of the RTD era and then when Moffat does character work differently, even though its arguably more character focused, people just act like there isn't any character work because its not RTD style character work. Which is really annoying. There's so much character work in the Moffat era.

He also was my first, but where TEnnent grew into the role over 2-3 episodes and became at least as good, Eccleston was THE DOCTOR from the moment he said "Nice to meet you, Rose. Run for you life!" ...admittedly, those are actually separated by a bit, but he captured it both times, and basically was the Doctor from the instant he had his first line. And that's saying something, considering that that is how I knew it was Doctor Who, and I _literally didn't know it was Doctor Who_ until minutes later confirmed it as the comercials came on with a little tag-blurb thing in the corner of the screen. It's just, "Huh, something about this says 'Doctor Who' to me, and I don't think I've ever seen any Doctor Who.," from the moment of Eccleston's first line.

Donna Noble is the best companion, and her season has the best episodes. Just two best friends the shenanigans they get up to which is extremely refreshing compared to the two seasons before it. Matt smith isn’t bad it’s just that you can tell the writers were running out of ideas when the writing became “and then.” Peter Capaldi's doctor is probably the best doctor in the worst writing at the time. Michelle Gomez as Missy or The Master during these seasons was also my favorite. While John Simm plays a great vindictive and sometimes Psychopathic Master. Michelle Gomez was more sociopathic and selfish allowing for a more relatable a fun version of the Master than before.
Peter Capaldi got screwed by the BBC with his contract due to them requiring permanent availability. Even when nothing is getting done not allowing him to work on other project. It's really interesting to see an analysis of Doctor Who from the perspective of a new fan. I think you might be right about the increased focus on story arcs affecting people's perception of the show. I loved Matt Smith's first season, but after that the show started to lose its sense of fun because the story arcs became much darker and more serious. It was actually the Jodie Whittaker era that restored some of that sense of fun for me, so I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on her seasons once you've seen them.
Another thing to take into consideration is the change in showrunners between seasons. Now that Russell T Davies has returned to write for Ncuti Gatwa the show is feeling a bit more like the Tennant era again, with a greater focus on the characters and their emotions. Steven Moffat and Chris Chibnall are great writers too but their scripts tend to be more plot-driven.

David Tennant has always felt like the 'most doctory' doctor for me.
He is the baseline at which I judge all other actors of the doctor.
He is not my favourite doctor, but I believe he does the best job fulfilling the role in an honest and appropriate manner.
    That's because I don't have an all-round favourite doctor.
Each actor has their own strengths and weaknesses.
    - David Tennant felt the most honest. He was the most humbling. Especially when his glasses were on, it felt like he was talking *to* you, not just *at* you, as other doctors tend to do.
    - Christopher Eccleston felt like the most 'prepared' doctor. If I had freshly encountered him, I would trust him the most to get me out of a dangerous situation, I feel like he's the best at coming across as the most capable of dealing with the things the doctor deals with.
    - Matt Smith was easily the most fun doctor to watch. He had a lot of energy to bring to the role, and a sense of childhood whimsy that fit his stories very well. After the two more serious actors of Tennant and Eccleston, Smith brought back the passion and the wonder for the show, for me.
    - Peter Capaldi without a doubt took the role the most seriously. I don't think it makes him better than the other actors, nor worse. But you could definitely feel an intensity there. He could switch faces in an instant, entirely disguising his intentions from everyone around him.
    - Jodie Whittaker unfortunately suffered from bad writers leading her phase. But, she was a refreshing return to whimsical energy after Capaldi's run. She was more fearful than the other doctors, I think. A reminder appropriate to her stories that the worlds beyond our world can be scary and dangerous, and there's so much more we don't truly understand.
    - Ncuti Gatwa hasn't finished his run yet, but so far I'm happy with his performance. He so far has been reminding us that The Doctor is still a person. He still wants to live a life of his own, he does things for his own sake. He explores for himself, he sings for himself, he dances for himself. And he seeks companionship, for himself. He's endearing, and portrays the desire to not be alone very well.

    Hey great video dude.
I wanna just talk about a few things on why dr who has different fans prefering different eras/doctors.
    1. Regeneration came about because the actor was to sick to carry on and he was basically replaced nicely. Nowadays its more because the show is really hard to make for any one actor to keep the role for a long time.
    2. Dr who doesn't just chage actors it changes showrunners, Tennant to Smith was also the change of RTD to Moffat (he wrote the weeping angels episode).
    3. The seasons change and the character focus does too. If you look at 9 and 10 they are guilty doctors with a lot of self loathing. But 11 and 12 are much forgetfful and often run away from their mistakes instead. There is a lot more to it than that (particularly with the ecclsston and Capaldi doctors but that is the basic appearabce of it that can mess people up.)
You probably already knew at least one of these things but i love talking about this show too much and you seem to be really perceptive of the deeper character moments for a first time watcher for me to resist.

This is a really nuanced and insightful take!
I definitely felt like something was off during Smith's run & it was difficult for me to explain concisely what the difference was. I think you nailed it.
I've always had a strong preference for character-centric writing so it only makes sense the change would throw me off.
I was quite harsh towards the Smith era at the time, but I feel like I will find new things to appreciate in a re-watch. I have found myself disagreeing with some of my own prior Tennant worship when re-watching his era.
I think you'll really like Capaldi. I feel like the show goes back to more character-centric writing with him, and uses his character's history much more effectively than Smith's run did.
I also wonder how much of the Tennant worship just comes from the fact that many people didn't actually keep watching past Smith's era. I'm sure a significant number of people saw Eccleston and Tennant, and quit watching altogether during or after Smith. Capaldi isn't even on their radar.

Literally the best take I have seen in a dw video I really enjoyed this! I especially like how you don’t shit on 11, I never understood why people didn’t like him as much as I for one had the time of my life trying to unwind the plot as it was progressing but this video brought attention to the subconscious realisation I had about the style change and put it into words
10 is my favourite doctor if normal people ask, but since none of us are I can say it is 8, bestie got the worlds shittest 1996 tv movie and a 2 min special for the 50th anniversary but then the most fucking INCREDIBLE audio dramas, being a fan of him is weird because there’s SO MUCH content for him but so little of it is mainstream so nobody knows what you’re in about when you talk about him, Charley and C’rizz
I’m also so happy to find a fellow family of blood enjoyer, when people talk about it it’s usually about the way Martha was mistreated which is entirely true and she should not have been forced into a period that was considerably more racist, but i fucking loved the doctor in the episode itself and the plot device of the fobwatch and ESPECIALLY the way it ended
Also based opinion on the girl who waited that bitch did NOT wait she gave up on everyone immediately and is THE episode I use when ranting about Amy I could go so fucking deep down into this but this is a YT comment so
I’d always wondered why I liked her in the Van Gogh ep so much and you’re so right they did roseify her that episode literally made me cry
You’re going to LOVE 12 and Bill, real grandad and his lesbian daughter vibes it’s amazing
And sadly 13 is as bad as they say, but 14s specials are very fun! My favourite being Wild Blue Yonder :]
I also very much enjoyed 15! It definitely finds its feet with Boom and is generally a very good series! (Look out for Rogue, it’s a fan favourite)

But Steven moffat to me wrote Amy as a sexy doctor but as a companion, and the change of view from (women) companions to (male) doctor just felt like i wasn’t the target audience anymore. Especially when I was younger, dr who was a ‘boy show’ and it felt like it had been taken from me in someway.

I find it strange when people say “oh the show fell off during Matt Smiths run.”
No, it’s a change in head writer and production, they’re allowed to do their own thing with the show. Moffat for all his faults is still my favourite era of the show for having a more experimental approach with multi season arcs. Changing up the episode structure and formula.
Even the Chibnall era I’ll defend because while I didn’t like some of it, it kept going forward and tried new stuff. For example I like Segun Akinola’s music and Flux was incredibly fun and janky.
Even with the newest series, we’ve already seen RTD being a bit more experimental with his stories. Gods and monsters, companions who have Moffatisms and a new episode structure.
What I’m trying to say is embrace the change. Have fun with it. Doctor Who can be nearly anything. :)

But, in the sense of telling a character driven story, it did fall off. Both eras have areas they lack, and areas they're strong in. But Moffat's era does fall off in multiple ways, just by nature of changing the show's focus. To me, that kind of storytelling is far less impactful and enjoyable, and makes it worse. It's kind of like the difference between the Christopher Nolan Batman movies and The Batman. Personally, character-driven story will always be superior and will have more meaning, and plot-driven stories that sacrifice character will always feel bland and forgettable. Not everyone will feel that way, of course, and that's fine, we're all different.

In his very first episode we saw a glimpse of his darker side (Harriet Jones' downfall), and this gradually ramped up until Waters of Mars. • @Luxormeister
    @Luxormeister 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

You were, in fact, right. My favourite Doctor is Tennant. Which makes me, in the eyes of the fandom, a normie.
That being said, I enjoyed Eccleston, Tennant, Smith AND Cappaldi. They all feel different. You're right in that, but to me that ties into them being different personalities, different regenrations. Eccleston was wrath. He was chasing people off his lawn (earth) he only held on to kindness due to Rose being so incredibly human, as you correctly pointed out.
Tennant was Guilt and deep sadness but also fresh out of mercy. He was goofy, to cover up. His story came in bits and pieces cause he himself tried to obfuscate it. He also easily was shown banishing people into fates worse than death.
Smith was young rashness and silliness but also never giving up in the face of tragedy. It didn't always work out. He learned harsh lessons during this time. Smith had a short fuse. He's a bad liar, quickly overwhelmed by emotion, easily distracted and had a temper that could flare up suddenly.
And Cappaldi is telling the story of a Doctor that is physically old as a reflection of his mental state. He wad questioning himself, his reason for doing things, for exisiting. Debating letting the saga of the doctor end due to the tremendous guilt he feels that only grows each and every day. He blames himself not only for the deaths he causes, but also for the deaths he fails to avoid. As he says, he is not a good man. But his journey is one of discovering that at his core, no matter what guilt he feels, no matter the circumstances. And even just that will always motivate him to help where he can. Even if the face of temptation or inrumountable odds. He believes in not one, but two Cybermen. He believes in love. He comes to save his worst enemy, Davros, simply because he called for help.
All of this is extremely valuable and they all act it out greatly imo. Sure, I have favourites. Who doesn't? But I wouldn't do without any of them. Not to mention that throughout each season, each regeneration and even ovearcing all the Doctors, there is a story of an ancient, impossible, kind, brave man and all the things and people connected to him. It all adds up and it all is wonderful.

    @Aldragon 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

I like the arguments and evidence you provide in this video. I think it encapsulates a lot of people’s feelings great, but I have a counteroffer.
David tenant is my favorite, and I think his series was the best, but not because of the change of style but because of two or three major factors:
    1. The David Tennant series felt grounded in an endearing way, but still explored the stars effortlessly and showed us so many sides to humanity and the worlds beyond our scope of time. After the first or second Matt Smith series, the writing felt so different in both world building and style of the enemies and characters outside the Doctor’s core (companions and extended companions like the doctor Sontaran). Everything that came back had to be refurbished and upgraded to be bigger and badder (looking at the million changes to cybermen and daleks), and every returning storyline had to completely obliterate the previously established cannon to make everything new the most impactful thing ever, but then the Doctor just handles it easily anyway. It really felt like the show lost heart.
    2. Along the lines of everything needing to explode the established canon: every couple of episodes and especially every single arc they introduced after David Tennant did something that had to retcon every single piece of history for the last 50 years of doctor who. Clara is the single most egregious example of this. Them having her like what spliced into the entire time stream of the Doctor’s history, essentially making her the single most important character of Doctor Who history and changing the entire history of the Doctor going back to episode one of the original series? No. Absolutely not screw that. Changing the Doctor’s most important modern character trait and decision of ending the time way having to sacrifice his entire planet and the entirety of the Dalek fleet, committing double genocide and having to live with that for the rest of his long life? That was so disgusting that they would completely retcon that with some random bs to make it so hey at least the time lords all magically lived. It’s complete crap. Let’s bring back Sutech, put an insane power amp on him and give him the most hype ever seen, call him the ultimate most powerful god that can exist in this universe and then we’ll just tie him up with a rope and drag him through a time vortex and okay wooosh he’s gone. The writing is so god awful now and nothing feels important. There are no levels to anything and everything can be changed and retconned on a whim because who cares. With David Tennant and Ecchleston’s series, everything mattered and everything foreshadowed had great payoffs requiring sacrifice and intelligence. After that, it just became cringe and unrewarding.
    3. Clara is the worst thing to happen to the show. Words cannot describe how much I hate Clara. Everything around her is awful. Her character is trash, she makes awful, nonsensical choices sometimes that make me wonder if she could even be an actual human being with a brain. I think the actress is fine but the writing is so bad with her that it made me quit halfway through Capaldi’s run because I couldn’t stand her anymore. The writers had the balls to make her the most important character ever in Doctor who? Absolutely not.
