Anyone who sees me on IG will know I change up multitools almost every day. However there is one tool for me that stands heads and shoulders above anything else: the Victorinox Manager (tweezer version). The additional combo tool is amazing and also let's the tool be used with the Leatherman bit exchanger (designed for square philips) used diagonally. With that one tool alone I can do an obscene number of things. Cheers.

My EDC is the Huntsman with the Plus scales added. I’ve done some of your mods to it and I’ve done a few of my own. I do a variety of different things for my job. I do carpentry, electrical, plumbing, machining, drywall, painting and many other things. I’m not often sure what I’ll be doing from one day to the next. The Huntsman has just about all the things I need for a pocket knife/tool. When I travel out of town for work I’ll use my Huntsman to fix my meals. I use it to open food packages and cans or to slice up fruits, vegetables or meats. It’s just about perfect for my needs.

My EDC is also the huntsman and I’ll be getting the plus scales soon. I could only get one knife for Christmas, so I looked at one that was good in the sticks, good in the garage and good on the streets. I’m very happy with my choice.
I bought an Alox farmer a few months back, but I honestly feel like I wasted my money. The huntsman does more and is more versatile, the extra size and weight doesn’t bother me too much.

    • @FriedPi-mc5yt

@@cowboy4378 Agree. The Huntsman is a great compromise between weight and usefulness. Lots of uses and it’s not that heavy in the pocket.
You can get the plus scales off of eBay for not much money. They will include the pen, a straight pin, the eyeglass screwdriver and a key ring as well as an extra toothpick and extra tweezers. It takes about 3-4 weeks to arrive but it’s worth the wait. Here’s where I got mine and I’m really happy with what I got.

I have been a 58mm knife guy for most of my life. Carrie the classic for 6 years, moved to the rambler in 2012, got a manager in 2014 used that till 2019 when I got a mini champ, now I alternate between a minichamp and a manager. For everyday needs I still think the 58mm are the best bang for buck. Just started getting more into the other sizes for various tasks and collecting, 74mm has intrigued me the most in the last few months and I do enjoy carrying the executive from time to time.

  •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +23

I couldn’t agree more with your choice, Felix. I used to have a Signature Lite, which I carried on my key ring, and I was perfectly satisfied with its set of tools. The pen came in handy much more often than one would think. Then the scales broke off, so the Signature Lite turned into a Classic SD.

My EDC is a Victorinox Rambler. I used to carry a Midnite Manager, but the Rambler has all the essential tools I need, because I carry a separate pen and light. It's the scissors I use more than anything, then the knife for opening packages, then the bottle opener/Phillips screwdriver.

Hi Felix. Been watching your series on Victorinox tools and it inspired me to start my own little projects with my oldest son. I got a Cyber Tool (41) I've bought many years ago and it is an awesome tool with pretty much everything I can possibly need in any given situation. Because I love this tool so much I bought a slightly smaller model for my son, the Cyber Tool (34), because he got smaller hands than me it was a better match. At the same time I want him to be able to do similar things that I do, so I couldn't really choose another model. 😊
Since we live in Sweden, above the Arctic Circle, we have to wait for spring before it's possible to do something creative in the forest. But by then we should have watched all your videos and learnt many new things to try out.
Thank you so much for the awesome videos you do and keep up the great work.

A Swisschamp as resident knife in every EDC bag and my winter jackets (M65), a Manager on my car keys, a Cybertool on my belt.
At home, either a Deluxe Tinker or Cybertool light in my Engelbert Strauss trousers, thigh side pocket and a Bantam in the right hand side pocket (quicker to grab while standing somewhere, the side pocket is better accessible while seated)
Of course this is sort of overkill, but I do like the knifes and look for every excuse to get another one.

Yeah I think the climber hit the sweet spot in the SAK line up, it 3 layers is slim enough for most people, the cockscrew may seem useless but it can hold another small screwdriver for glass if you want to, and the can opener have the small slot that work well on a regular Phillips head, so no need of a dedicated Phillips tool like the Tinker

I have also carried a Huntsman for many years and probably it is more than I need daily. But I find the large and small knife blades, the scissors, and the screwdriver are used almost daily. Oh yeah, also the toothpick. My only complaint is that the spring return in the scissors is frequently needing adjustment to keep it between the scissor halves. I wear cargo pants most of the time (I’m retired) with a knife pocket so the size of the Huntsman is no problem. For other trousers I use a belt sheath. When the presence of the Huntsman elicits comment, I note that my age makes me a product of a generation in which boys routinely carried pocket knives from a very early age.

Huntsman is always with me since 1996. In 2018 it got new plus scales with a pen, pin needle and mini screwdriver.
This SAK has some good stories to tell. In one occasion I was using it to install a new lamp in the bedroom, so I thought I had the power down and went ahead to cut the wire. Next, a huge electrical spark happened as soon as I touched the wire with the steel, which melted the blade, leaving it with a "c" hole. Well, the blade saved me, for if it was my finger there, I would've been fryed. I grinded the blade afterwards, reshaping it like the Felix small blade modification.

My everyday knife is a Victorinox Super Tinker.
I own a small farm in New England, USA, and I can say I've used almost every tool on it fairly regularly except for the can opener (which has seen some minimal use, but not a lot). My second job is as an armed security guard, where the scissors are great for last minute grooming and the Phillips head is useful for maintaining some of my duty gear. Lastly, as a member of our army reserves, the knife has been more than useful and garnered quite a bit of attention from soldiers who are used to their more "tactical" knives, especially when at the end of a long drill, I'm the only one with a bottle opener for our beers.

Back in 1982 ( I was 14) I had a Climber as a present from my Dad. Back then, it did not have a multi purpose hook or lanyard ring....but basically the same knife. Was boxed and presented in a velvet effect mould. Very classy.
For the last 3 years, I have had the Climber again.....ideal for EDC urban use......I do take it everywhere even in the woods. It feels as if it is part of my body now as I do so much with it.
I have it with the plus scales which I love and have recently this week put the bearing in the scale, in case I do a bow drill.
The only thing I wish I had was a ferro Rod in the scales....or a light.
For the woods and survival stuff, I use the Farmer. The saw is excellent and it is more durable than the Climber.
    Super toll videos Wie immer.

My dad carried a Swiss Champion (the 80's model) from the time I was born until he passed away in 2012.
From him I learnt the usefulness of these wonderful tools, so in 2006 I bought myself a Huntsman, which fifteen years later I still always carry. I had it "updated/improved" to a Hunstman Plus when buying those scales, so it now it also has the small, flat screwdriver, the pin and the pen. I regularly carry around a ballpoint pen to write notes and things, but when it is an emergency, I can always trust on the pen my Swiss Army Knife has to get me out of the situation I'm in.
Last December I bought a Swiss Soldier 08 knife, and that's what I'm using when I have to wear a suit. Its more subdued colours and focused tools (it doesn't have the scissors, pen, tweezers or toothpick) are more suited for a serious and professional occasion where a tool could still be needed.

  • @lmaoroflcopter

I love this! Absolutely love it.
    The honesty of it all.
I've carried a Classic SD on my keyring for as long as I can remember must be something like 20 years now.
It has done everything I've ever needed it for.
I carried a bantam for years thinking I needed the bigger blade but its bulk meant I often would leave it on a table or shelf with my keys, so it was never with me when I needed it.
My classic SD is so small as to be unnoticeable and it is there for me, every time.
A signature lite would be a nice upgrade with the pen and flashlight but my classic SD was a personalised gift for me and its more than a knife now, as it has sentimental value so as its still a really good knife it will always remain on my person.

    The video thumbnail had me!
    Anyway, here's my EDC:
When I am out and about in town, not at work, it is a Swiss Champ, carried in the coin pocket of my jeans.
But, in this pandemic, I am living in my dad's farm for a few days. At that time, I have a belt with a Ledlenser fashlight, a Forester, the same Swiss Champ, and a Muela tactical knife. Here, if I am working on a mini-project, I will also carry a tool kit that has a Ranger Imprint, a ratchet wrench for standard Bosch screwdriver bits, and this Swiss Tool Spirit in it's sheath it came with that has a brilliant rotating belt-clip. But these are only in this farm.
This Ranger Imprint is my use-abuse-practice tool. So, I keep it for where I need to cut a lot, or use that file on metal. I would like to not have to use the file on that Swiss Champ.
When we were working in my corporate office and not at home before the pandemic hit, it used to be an S557 in the pocket, and a Cybertool Lite and that Ranger Imprint in the backpack.
Yeah, I carry heavy, and a lot. I don't mind it. I am 6 feet tall and weigh 220 lbs., I will never admit to anything more sensible such as cutting down how much I would carry cause, ego...LOL.
My choice of tools is based on where I am at the time, and what I might need, no matter how small the chance. And, because I am a fan of these tools, and love fidgeting with them. So, what I am saying may not be as useful for almost everyone else.

My EDC is the “Huntsman”. I use the large screwdriver at work when resetting our barcode scanners, the large blade for paring fruit or cutting a sandwich in half during lunch. The can opener for popping off casebacks on watches. The saw blade while gardening or when I’m out hunting/camping. The scissors for trimming my nails or minor pruning on some of my garden plants. The toothpick I use all the time. The Huntsman is a very useful tool to carry

I carry an old Victorinox Automobile model which was secondhand when I was given it in the 1970's. It's a bit beaten up now but I'm very attached to it. Scissors and the screwdrivers are the most common tools used. There is no model in the current catalogue that could replace it. I made a leather pouch for it from a Seydel harmonica pouch to keep it from wearing out my pocket. An old and valued friend.

Hello Felix, I’ve been watching your channel for a while now and just as I started watching this one and I was just wondering which country you live in and straight away you tell us where you live, I’m in Sydney Australia.
It’s hard to find the perfect Swiss Army knife in any category but what you have shown us is fairly close for the every day carry though I think I would go for the Explorer because it has a magnifying glass but I must admit that the flashlight would be very handy.
I think there must be about three main categories, one for work, one for outdoors and today’s topic, the every day carry.
Victorinox has pretty well covered all categories though I think there is room for another concept for trades people. When I worked as an industrial electrician in a very large factory I had to attend breakdowns over a large area and had to travel light, even though I had an electric vehicle it couldn’t go everywhere with me. For my type of work some of the the hand tools that I needed were dedicated pliers for twisting wires together as well as dedicated long nose pliers and I needed quality insulated screw drivers even if it were just one handle with interchangeable insulated screwdriver shafts and I also needed dedicated wire strippers for small cables but a Victorinox knife would be ok for larger cables and extension cord type cables.
The thing that Victorinox could make to compliment a tool box would be a folding knife without pliers, screw drivers or can openers and have things like a file, metal saw, wood/plastic saw, magnifying glass, scissors, rule, a 1/4” ratcheting socket driver at one end and maybe even a flat thread restoring tool could be developed. This would be an efficient space saving way to have a multi tool with tools that are not compromised. Maybe you could tell them for me.

Nice one Felix, I can relate to all that you said. I swap my EDC about. I usually carry the farmer as I live near the woods and l like whittling, a mini Swiss champ for all the tools, the tweezers, toothpick and pen get the most use after the blade. At the moment a Swiss champ, just cause I like it and I always have a small torch in my pocket.

Hi Felix. You're the best! My EDC is a Pioneer X with a suspension clip to make it more comfortable in my pocket. For a light, I use a tiny rechargeable LED flashlight with my keys. I used the small SAKs for a long time and even wore one out so that the spring was worn enough to break. Those are great knives. I wanted a bigger blade and scissors. The Pioneer X is perfect. Without the suspension clip the Pioneer X is too heavy and uncomfortable with some of my trousers. Keep up the good work. Your videos are excellent and you represent a superb company.

I EDC multiple knives which I rotate regularly. At least 2 or 3 or 4 different size traditional folders like Case, GEC, Victorinox, Rough Ryder, Boker, Otter Messer, to name a few. At least 1 Tactical medium or large like Cold Steel, Spyderco, CRKT, Bechmade, etc. so I’ve been known to carry up to 7 knives on me to cover any task. But the one knife that is always on me at all times no matter what else I carry is my trusty Victorinox Rambler. I love the little bugger. I went to a Miami Heat game and I had one on my keychain and it got “confiscated” at the arena entrance, as soon as I turned around I ordered me a replacement from Amazon. That much I love it.

Another great video Felix! This is an excellent suggestion. I love my Huntsman & use it often. I did add some mods that you suggested. The pin in the corkscrew hole is very useful for poking & prying small crevices as well as popping the occasional blister. I also added 2 rare earth magnets that fit between the saw & scissors. Excellent to turn the pin into a compass needle. Mostly to add to a screw driver to hold small screws. Put it on the end of the saw to lift the lid on my stainless steel cooking pot. Another useful add is a needle with about 2’ of dental floss. Great for emergency repairs. This fits nicely below the wood saw. I have also added a couple pieces waxed jute to the corkscrew for an excellent fire starter & lubricant. Lastly I made a lanyard with about 4’ of paracord. Always nice to have extra cordage. I use it often to bundle wood then use the parcel hook for a handle. Just a few of your tips that I have used while venturing in the outdoors. There are still many more to try. Thank you so much for your inspiration!

I carry the Alox Cadet every day (except when I overlooked it and it was in my pocket when I was washing and drying my clothes). It is so small and light that it was easy to overlook. The can opener works good as a crosspoint (+) screwdriver. The bottle opener works good as a common (-) screwdriver that can easily reach 3/4 inch deep into a 5/16 diameter hole to tighten/loosen screws. I use the file and small knife blade every single day for the past 2 years.
If I have other tasks around the house, the Ranger Grip 71, 79, or Boatsman can usually get the job done.
Thanks for the video. You are a true artist at what you do.

Yes! I bought a Rambler without even looking at it to replace the SAK that airport security took away from me (SAK # 186 that I have donated to airport security) because I forgot it was on my keys. But I always buy another one as soon as I get where I am going, and never cared which model- the first SAK I see in the $25 range will do. So I ended up with a Rambler without even realizing it, and it has become my favorite little SAK ever! The tiny little phillips screwdriver is AMAZING. It fits everything!
My edc always includes one of my own knives, of course, but rest assured that there is always a SAK on my keys, next to a mini flashlight. In my pocket is always a larger knife (a slipjoint i made) and my Streamlight Microstream.

I carry a SAK work champ and I carry a schrade multitool with the full sized shears, pliers, and one hand opening blade. The schrade helped so much last weekend when I was cutting cables for my brother's trailer and opening clam packages and bending and cutting cotter pins. The shears help a lot with cutting hay bail strings and the SAK is wonderful for whittling while I'm out and about in the pasture. Still having to get the hang of sharpening blades, but I'm sure with practice I'll pick it up in no time

I feel naked without a 'Swiss' knife in my pocket. I have a Huntsman in my sacrificial home trousers. My EDC for carrying around is ... a Signature (attached to my house key)

My go to EDC is a 20 plus years old, 3 layer Yeoman with yellow + scales that I got off of eBay from Ukraine (I’m in Aust). I used to carry the 4 layer Explorer but rarely used the little knife and can opener so the Yeoman combo tool and big blade solved a thickness issue. As my eyesight continues to degrade I use the magnifying glass frequently along with the Phillips driver and it has been years since I cut my nails with anything other than Victorinox scissors!
