The reason why Jinshi went along with Lakan's request is because Lakan is in a higher position than "Jinshi the Eunuch". Jinshi's true identity however, is much higher than Lakan and they both know it too. But his real identity is suppose to be a secret so he has no choice but to go along with his unreasonable requests..
I have heard that the reason Jinshi offered to pay for the military guy was that he was testing whether or not this guy could be bought off. Since he refused such a generous offer that means he's someone who won't betray Jinshi should Jinishi decide to use him in the future.
The Blue Rose challenge here is that there are no blue roses that grow that way, the only way to get a blue rose is dying a white rose. It’s part of why Roselia in Bang Dream uses a blue rose as there symbol, as they are chasing the impossible
Lakan "officially" outranks Jinshi, so he can order Jinishi to do a bunch of stuff. If Jinishi were to refuse his requests he'd have to answer why he thinks he has the right to do so. He can't just say, "because I'm a member of the royal family" because it would ruin his whole undercover operation. Lakan knows that while Jinishi actually outranks himself he also knows that he can't reveal this fact. So he makes a bullshit request to humiliate him in retaliation for keeping Maomao away from him.
Those are courtesans in the equivalent of forbidden city arround 700-900 years AC, they are intrigants. That's why they don't behave like contemporary Americans... The chalenge is not about roses, it's about political influence and power.
How is the possibility of "whatever Jinshi doing in the rear palace is a top secret ordered directly by the emperor, and the fact Jinshi is the emperor younger brother is must never been told" slip from you guys? Which is my first thought as why Lakan can pressure Jinshi by simply knowing who he actually is.
@14:34 it's a good government high-security practice to be aware of anything that could be used as leverage to compromise a bureaucrat. FBI does this kind of background check a lot. M.I.C.E : money(wanting to be able to buy out pairin), ideology, coercion, ego
The greenhouse was the sauna that Maomao had built for Lady Lishu to clear the toxins from her. To me the whole "blue roses" thing is to make Jinshi look bad to prove that Lakkan is superior and Maomao should be with him instead. The emperor and the new concubine's father is a bit of a power struggle because the father was close to the emperor's mother so he has to "respect" him as he was favored by the emperor's mother.
RE: Animation Quality - I feel like you guys took that "drop in quality" a little too seriously. While you're right that historically and practically, the use of 2D models and the removal of actual animation has been typically to shave production costs, especially in shonen... I felt that Apothecary Diaries used it for more for comedic effect rather than financial considerations, or at least hid it way better than other series. By making the characters two dimensional and less defined or animated, it firmly places those characters as background characters to the main plot action, or plot focus.
If I’m not mistaken, I believe you have Re:Zero lined up to replace Apothecary Diaries, which is great. But I think you shouldn’t miss out on the opportunity to schedule in reactions to Dandadan. It’s the hottest series out right now, and it would be good to take advantage of the viralness of reacting to it. Strike while the iron’s hot, as they say.
Sadly with scheduling it's hard to get to all the anime we'd like to, and in the most timely manner. It's certainly possible that we could watch it at some point, but right now it's not in the cards. That being said we watched frieren just after he had finished airing and those videos did really well, same thing with jjk
"The Emperor doesn't have as much power as we think" And I think that's exactly it! There's a power struggle for the throne. We don't know about it, cause Maomao doesn't know about it... and doesn't care to know! :p What happened was, the childhood friend of the emperor (the concubine) was expelled from the palace so the daughter of the family that supports the empress dowager enter the palace. Not only Jinshi but also Lakan seemed to pay attention new concubine and her family. And if Empress dowager found out kids were swapped, it means HER kid was the one that died (assassination?) while she raised another women kid. And Jinshi grows to be the mirror image of Ah-Duo! She be mad!

Empress Regnant, not the Empress Dowager :)
The one that favors the father of the new concubine.
