13:45 Sidenote: The piano playing here is from ‘A Sunrise Worth Seeing’ from the OST, but this section of the song also plays in episode 10 when Flamme tells Frieren about the flower spell and asks her to use it at her grave. A great way to use a beautiful piece of music to tie together two thematically and emotionally connected scenes
The relationship between Serie and Frieren is fascinating. They are completely two different types of mages at their cores, yet they have eerie similarities. We have no idea how old Serie is, but we can assume she is ancient. She sees magic as a weapon that only the powerful can truly wield. A Mage for War. While Frieren was taught to fight by Flamme, even Flamme knew that she is a Mage for Peace. Magic isn't simply a weapon. It is a tool; and tools can be used for all manner of tasks to help us make the world into the form we imagine, good or ill. That is why Frieren could break Serie's barrier. Because she could imagine breaking through a barrier to every mage using magic to their fullest potential. And yet they both seek out new spells. Serie hoards magic to dole out to those she deems worthy, while Frieren uses them and teaches them to her apprentice. At the end of this all, I imagine that Serie will become more like Kraft. A relic of a bygone era that no one remembers, because she couldn't see herself doing anything of note in a world at peace. And while Frieren herself will likely be forgotten, the era she helped set in motion will endure. And era of peaceful human mages using magic to better the world around them. After all, it's what Himmel the Hero would have done.
It's a little hard to understand, but the reason Serie was so impressed with Fern is Fern immediately saw that Serie was suppressing her mana when Lernen, her student of 50 years, never has.
Lernen saw through Frieren's mana suppression pretty much at first glance, while he was looking at her holy symbol. Fern, a teenager, surpassed him on that front. Serie had to recognize the potential there.
Serie's suppressed mana is the same as Frieren's unsuppressed mana. So if Serie is suppressing at the same rate as Frieren, then that means that Serie is at least 10x as powerful as Freiren. Which is a scary concept.
I believe that Frieren started suppressing at one tenth but over time may have gone further than one tenth to maybe one fifteenth or even one twentieth. if Frieren had stayed at one tenth then Heiter's mana level would be half that of Frieren's true level. Though I believe Heiter was strong and I like him, I don't think is mana level is that high.
@@kevingibson393 Heiter's mana is INSANELY high, he could cast a spell that would keep his party members from needing water, food and even OXYGEN to survive and could maintain that spell active for TWO ENTIRE MONTHS (while Sein couldn't wake up Frieren from a curse for more than 5 seconds), Heiter's mana is insane. He estimated that Frieren, who was restraining her mana, had around a fifth of his mana. Aura stated that Frieren's mana had not significantly changed from 80 years ago when she traveled with the Hero Party, but even this restrained mana was indicative of roughly 100 years of training. This means that Heiter, as a young adult, possessed around 500 years of training worth of mana.
Denken's stack of books left behind on the table in Richter's shop was a subtle suggestion to what Richter should study over the next three years so that he would pass the first class mage exam next time.
Prior to second test, Frieren had a flashback with Himmel about being remembered, of subtly changing a person's life. It was one thing to be shown the way back, but that surprise flower field spell... at first it was as if Frieren taking notes from the past, and it ends up that Himmel picked that up from her in the first place. Ah, this story is just ❤
It feels like the legacy of Flamme, her spell of making a field of flowers, and her teacher Seire. They are all connecting into that legacy into Frieren, Himmel and their party of Eisen and Heither; and now into the next generation of Fern and Stark and those of their generation. Edited: It's all connected in some way and it's beautiful.
Remember Himmel saying to his party way earlier in the series that a very powerful elf mage lived in those woods? He knew. Power was not in the efficacy of the spells she wielded, it was in the compassion she wielded them with.
I so love this Episode, more specifically the interaction of Serie and Frieren. Frieren so often shows her childish side, but in this Episode, she seemed like the more mature Person, that values the worth of other people and understands, that value lies not only the power of a spell/ a person, but what it was able to move in someone. Frieren values also the intuition of Serie, even they not once come to an mutual understanding. Alsos Ferns reaction to Serie, like "nah, why i sohould i be your student, you are not more special than Frieren!" xD
You know after watching this many times with many other reactors, Frieren says that She's Lucky, when referring to the fight with the Demon King, which means that the battle was not in the least bit easy and she may have died many times during that battle. Her and her companions. People who go through true hardships and say that they completed them through luck have been through it. Very subtle, clue into that battle.
Himmel wasn't looking at the flowers. "I thought it was beautiful." And "I wanted you." He saw beauty for the first time alright, but he was lying about it being magic. Then as a man he came looking for her. Himmel does bend the truth when it comes to Frieren, he knew he had no future with her... but his eyes and his words let his feelings show now and then.
Since Frierens deal is hunting demons and hiding her mana to trick them, it is better that she wasn't passed anyways. Serie's intuition is always correct.
It wouldn't have made a difference, all demons know Frieren and knows that she was part of the party that killed the Demon King, they all assume it was because of Himmel (he's a demon's nightmare) and the other party members when they see her mana (don't get me wrong, they do know she is strong asf) , her being a 1st Class Mage wouldn't have made a difference for the Demons on how they see her, they know she's strong regardless of that. Serie didn't pass Frieren based on intuition, she's just failing Frieren out of spite because Frieren is not the mage she wishes her to be.
Fern starts the episode pissed off with Frieren to the point where she refuses to say anything when Richter calls her Freiren's kid and student. The episode ends with her proudly declaring that she's Freiren's student to her great grandmaster whose mana she just deduced to be 10x Frieren's actual mana
Abt the old guy with stark, its just a random old man that goes on a hike every day and whenever he meets stark he talks like he has been training him this whole time 😂
A corrupt priest, a scared dwarf, a fake hero and a disgraceful mage defeated the demon king because of a field of flowers. The flowers are important in a lot of episodes and this ties it all together beautifully.
Pretty much stuff by which D&D legends are made of. The party I'm mastering is hardly composed of real champions of any virtues, indeed 😅 But still they are saving the world
The reason she pass Fern was because she can see that Siere is suppressing her mana, just like Siere's current student can. It's cool because they all think Siere already has much more mana than them all, and she's actually surprising it all the time like Frieren is.
Serie is a battle maniac, while she doesn't fight a lot personally she just wants people to be bloodthirsty and fight to become the best battlemages possible. Which is why Frieren isn't a mage Serie likes at all, Fern however is an excellent battle mage and has a ton of potential.
Note that Lernen said Frieren has "equal mana as Serie", because he could she her (Frierens') suppression. However, Serie said he didn't see the fluctuations in HER suppression. Meaning: that gigantic mana she had was her mana in a suppressed state! So the mana of Serie in the suppressed state was actually what was equal to the mana of Frieren NOT suppressed, and since we know that's one tenth of her actual mana... one can assume Series' mana is at minimum TEN TIMES more than Frieren at her fullest. That's how f- strong she is. There is little doubt that Serie is the strongest mage in this entire world still living.
Frieren started suppressing her mana level to 10%. 1000 years later she is still suppressing to the same level but her mana has grown a lot. So she is probably showing 1% or even less to people. Serie has far greater mana levels than Frieren, but there is no indication she is suppressing to 10%. People just assume because that is the only number that has been mentioned so far. Serie is closer to how a demon thinks about mana and power/status She may only be suppressing to 50% or 90%, because it is really just a test to see if her students will notice. Hopefully we see in the future, and it is possible we could see very soon in the Manga.
I don't think we know any such thing that it is one tenth of her mana. Yes, Flamme started training Frieren to suppress it to 1/10, but Frieren has much more mana now than she had back then and her suppressed state still looks about the same. My point is that I don't think that it is a good indicator of Serie's mana. It could be double of what she is showing or it could be 20 times what she is showing.
Frieren failed the equivalent of Serie's 1st class exam 1000 years ago, and she hasn't improved in any way that matters to Serie since then, so as soon as Serie decided to proctor the final test, Frieren knew she wouldn't be passing. One subtle mini-character arc in this episode that I didn't notice on my first time watching is that in the first half, Richter asked her if she was "Frieren's kid", and there was a weird, awkwardly long pause until eventually Stark answered for her, because in that moment she wasn't able to answer yes to that question. And then the next day at the exam, she proudly declares to Serie that she is Frieren's student. As for the flower spell, you basically put it all together in your reaction. Frieren is essentially replying to Serie calling it useless by saying, indirectly, that the flower spell is the spell that killed the demon king, not to mention the spell that helped her make her first friends in 1000 years. But if we take it even further back to Flamme, there's a sort of poignant irony. Flamme taught Frieren 2 main things: mana suppression for defeating the demon king, and the flower spell because it looks pretty. From last episode, where Frieren revealed that she was forced to use her "height of magic" against the demon king, and from Serie's statement in this episode, we now know that Flamme's 1000-year plan for Frieren to use mana suppression to defeat the demon king actually failed! But what succeded in its place? The silly flower spell she taught Frieren for fun, with no expectation that it would have any practical utility whatsoever.
Never take Serie’s words at face value. She says the flower spell is useless while sitting in a room full of well maintained flowers. She says she's disappointed in her student (Lerner) but she’s really disappointed that he won’t be around for much longer, thus never achieving a greater potential. If she never wanted another human student, she would never try to recruit Fern who has potential. When talking negative about Frieren’s master, she is also subtly reminiscing the life of her dead student with the only other person who knew her. She’s literally a tsundere of godly proportions. Honestly, she might even be more in tune with her emotions than Frieren.
I love how denken's team stuck together despite being more or less strangers. Much to Richter's annoyance, but who knows. Maybe he too can learn something for the futures
I wanted to point out that frierens flashbacks go hand in hand with the place they are and the situation she is in. so the flashback to the fight against the demon will prob happen when we arrive at heaven
about ise mariya voicing serie. she said she looked up a lot on how flamme's va voiced flamme then incorporated flamme's way of talking into the account on how she voiced serie. after all, flamme's way of talking must have been influenced by serie because she is her student.
Fern has been practicing mana suppression her entire life - since she was tiny. I think it's safe to say she actually has an innate talent in that direction, especially since she was the one test-taker who could see Serie's mana fluctuations.
Once again we're shown that the most "useless" little things have the most impact on people. Now we know why Himmel went to get Frieren to join his party, he fell in love with her when she showed him the flower field spell when he was a kid. And also, go back to the final part of episode two, to the flashback of Frieren conjuring that same spell on an abandoned, destroyed church. You'll see that Eisen and Heiter watch her in awe, having only known magic to be either a weapon or a convenient tool, not something seemingly useless but beautiful, but when we're shown Himmel's reaction, we see him smiling, seemingly remembering that fateful night when he met Frieren for the frist time. We see how he falls even more for Fireren, that's why, to make this spell extra special for him, he later wants to show Frieren the blue flower from his hometown, so that she can replicate it and use it for the spell. This series man... Why does it have to be so damn good on everything?! BTW, extra tidbit, we're shown Serie's mana, but she then comments that not even Lernen, who was, able to reach the same level of magic/mana detection as the Demon king to be able to discern that Frieren is concealing hers, didn't notice that Serie's mana, as gigantic as it is, is fluctuating, meaning that the ammount that we're shown isn't her total mana, but her concealed ammount. We don't know the ratio of concealment that she uses, but if it is the same as Frieren, that means we only saw 1/10th of it. Mindblowing ot say the least, and makes you think what a beast Serie must be in combat.
I forgot to add that to my other comment, but want to get it out. The Flower Field Spell became a constantly Reminder through the whole show of Frierens Past. First we encounter it, as she started the Journey with Fern, as she is looking for Himmels Favourite Flower, second it gets mentioned again as explanation, why Frieren is looking for weird spells, showing a sequence of Heiterm himmel and Eisen dancing through the Flowerfield she created, then we learn, that it was her masters favourite spell and the last spell she thought Frieren, even seeing it again in the Trials as Part of Scharfs Metal Petal spell and all that to finally drop the bomb, that Himmel looked for Frieren as mage for the Hero Party, because of that Spell. I was sobbing the first time learning this in that Episode-
This episode brings new context to a scene all the way back from episode 2. When Frieren recalls the memory of showing her party the spell for creating a flower bed, we see Heiter and Eisen showing childish delight over it, but Himmel's reaction is different, as he instead has a look of fond nostalgia on his face, because that wasn't the first time he had seen the spell as we now know, and that silly, useless, spell ended up being the key connecting tissue that eventually lead to the defeat of the Demon King.
Stark with the nobel-PTSD and Himmel only is watching frieren instead of the flowerfield. gets me every time. Series disappointment is only the few time a human has. We should comprehend that a 20 year old girl can see the refined and well trained mana output. that has to be need centuries to train. from a living being several thousand years old or more. Its not only talent. she is the youngest first class. Lernen was 21 as he become first class mage if i remember correct
While Denken was in the shop, the items he picked up and set on the table were likely things that could help Richter in the tomb should they repeat their encounter, or at the very least help him to improve & develop. This is because, as he has said, Denken sees Richter much like his early self. He would likely prefer to see Richter improve faster than the time it took him, a man likely full of lessons learnt and regrets. A mentor from afar, so-to-speak. Also, Serie has been suppressing her mana all this time, and it looks roughly on par with Frieren's max.
Hmm u gonna trigger a lot of people with that 😂😂😂. Frieren imo is a 10/10 but its not like i don’t know why others may not like it so for us frieren has no flaws but to others it won’ be the case
I think people just write Serie off as being too blunt without considering who she actually is. She's a mage that's over a thousand years old and lived through a lot of death, war, and struggle. Those experiences alone would make her feel separate from. The world in general. Add how many people she has known who are gone now. It takes a toll on you.
I think that Serie's immediate reaction to the answer "Field of Flowers" was that it was because of the attachment to Flamme. Serie was mad that the response would be so basic. When Frieren explains that it's an attachment to Himmel, I think Serie just gets ANGRIER. It was bad enough that it was an attachment to a human from "A little while ago" in elf standards, but it was a new human. Frieren repeated the same mistake, in Serie's eyes. And I think that Serie's opinion toward Frieren is because she is a reminder of Flamme and Serie is just so emotionally constipated that she can't process the loss. She can't process the loss of any of her students, not really. I think she keeps taking on students despite the complaining because she wants to fill that hole in her existence created by Flamme's death. The neat part with elves is whether Serie realizes it herself. Are the complaints genuine frustration, completely forgotten when presented with a new prospect, or is it just a show because she doesn't want to admit that sharing the short lives of her students is something she enjoys.
Since you mentioned about being obsessed with serie's VA, might I suggest reacting to hunter x hunter? Kilua one of the main protagonist if that series have the same va
My head canon of the Demon King battle: At the end of their journey to the Demon King's castle Himmel, Heiter, Eisen and Frieren, after becoming stronger along the way, defeat the lackeys in the castle with ease. Upon facing the Demon King there is a fierce battle which leaves Himmel, Heiter and Eisen defeated but not dead. Frieren, facing the Demon King alone, uses two attacks before unleashing her final height-of-magic attack which hurts the Demon King. However this leave the Demon King with the equivalent of HP 5 while Frieren has only HP 1 left. As the Demon King approaches Frieren for the kill suddenly his chest is pierced by a sword. While Frieren and the Demon King were battling. Himmel tells Heiter to used the last of his mana to heal Himmel and Eisen as best he can. Himmel then tells Eisen to picks him up and throws him like a spear towards the back of the Demon King. Himmel uses the last of his strength/power to pierce the weaken armor and heart of the Demon King landing on the floor behind the Demon King. Thus fulfilling his promise to defeat the Demon King and saving the woman he loves. The demons outside the castle hear/sense the death of the Demon King and leave either out of fear or their own personal interests. This leaves Frieren and her friends time to recover before returning to a hero's welcome.

I love how Serie mocks frieren and flamme but ultimately does the very things she mocks. Frieren may be immature for her age with magic but i feel like Serie is immature in terms of emotional growth
I don't know why none of the many reactors I see realize the hint they give with Series and the fluctuation in her mana, no one mentions it or reacts to it, I mean, Frieren's mana released is what the size is of that of Series while compressing it, amazing, but they miss some things because they are making micro comments between scenes
I didn’t miss it! But sorry I didn’t comment on it - I figured since she is so so much older… I expected it and wasn’t surprised if I’m honest lol. She’s incredibly strong. And there is so much to dive into with this beautiful show 🤍 thank you for bringing it up ✨
Not that i ever read the manga, but if there is a flashback for the battle with the Demon King. Something tells me it is going to shown near the end of the series.
It’s interesting to me that this episode reveals that Flamme’s mana supression teachings kinda... didn't matter, in the end. Flamme told Frieren to “live in obscurity. You must not leave your name in history until you have killed the Demon King.” She was betting on Frieren mastering mana supression and surprising the Demon King in an ambush, like how Flamme nuked the demons in episode 10. She wanted Frieren to not leave a name for herself in order to catch the Demon King off guard, so she focused all of her time teaching Frieren into honing that skill. But… Serie mentions that the Demon King saw through Frieren’s mana supression at first glance. In the end, the thousand years that Frieren spent supressing her mana and living in obscurity were pointless. The Demon King immediately saw that Frieren was a powerful mage, and the thousand-year ambush that Flamme was betting on became impossible. Instead, what defeated the Demon King was Flamme’s Flower Spell, a spell that Flamme only taught Frieren on a whim, simply because she asked. It brought Frieren to her companions, and Frieren says that if even a single one of them weren’t there, they would have lost in the fight against the Demon King. Serie's wrong. The spell wasn’t useless, as without it, the Demon King wouldn’t have died. And because of that, Flamme’s teachings, and by extension Serie’s… failed. They truly could not have defeated the Demon King by themselves, because they couldn’t have made the companions that Frieren did.
Half an hour ago, I didn't see anything new here, and now a new vid is here, and half a dozne people already commented... did I *just* miss the release by a few seconds, there? 😕
There is no relationship between Denken and Laufen, but he sees her as the grand daughter he could have had (his wife died young before she could have children and Denken never stray). Now Ehre's grandfather is Lernen (the guy who made the super golem that can do everything). Serie does many things that she said its dumb or useless. For example, she is restraining her mana (hence the mana instability), she loves to use the flower spell (even though she said that was a useless spell), and no more apprentices? Well you saw she asked Fern.
The fact series magic is fluctuating suggests she is supressing her magic when she's already compared to frierens power in that state is terrifying
At least 10 times larger than Frieren's, if Serie is only releasing 10% of her mana.

many feel the same way so you're not alone. Not sure if true, but am open to the idea as well.
@MichaelRBrown-lh6kn Yeah, there's no outright evidence for it but knowing Denken and what he was saying at that moment, I'm sure that's what he did..
She is too old, Frieren's an infant compared to her.
@@laylahzs 5 seconds
@@mnplumberman Yeah, five seconds, my bad, lol, thanks
Denken's stack of books left behind on the table in Richter's shop was a subtle suggestion to what Richter should study over the next three years so that he would pass the first class mage exam next time.
Field of Flowers has the ability to make people happy. That's a very powerful spell in it's own way.
Hell, it makes me cry from happiness
Prior to second test, Frieren had a flashback with Himmel about being remembered, of subtly changing a person's life.
It was one thing to be shown the way back, but that surprise flower field spell... at first it was as if Frieren taking notes from the past, and it ends up that Himmel picked that up from her in the first place.
Ah, this story is just ❤
I paused, because i wnated to say, that pullover is amazing. So now i continue watching.
He knew. Power was not in the efficacy of the spells she wielded, it was in the compassion she wielded them with.
you should re-watch episode 2 and Himmel's reaction to the flower spell
Haha I was about to type pretty much the same thing. 👍
If that was Serie's suppressed mana, imagine how powerful she is when going all out
I so love this Episode, more specifically the interaction of Serie and Frieren.
Serie's VA is Killua from Hunter X Hunter
Best murder boy 🥰
The party I'm mastering is hardly composed of real champions of any virtues, indeed 😅
But still they are saving the world
@13:07 the writer was like: i heard you liked flashbacks, so i put a flashback in your flashback 😂
I was genuinely expecting a bigger reaction to the revelation of the true power of the Field of Flowers spell.
??
The single spell that spelled doom on the demon king.
Lernen: i couldn't possibly test Frieren, her mana is massive, equal to yours
Serie: yeah, you can't test Frieren cause you're blind 🤣
Serie usually teaches mages on a whim. Great Himmel moment and one that Flamme probably foresaw.
I'd also like to point out that when child Himmel says it's beautiful, he's not looking at the flowers. He's looking at Frieren.
Serie is closer to how a demon thinks about mana and power/status
She may only be suppressing to 50% or 90%, because it is really just a test to see if her students will notice.
Poor Himmel, so much of life's beauty is tied to Frieren, from the flower spell to the meteor shower at the end of his life 😢
Omg 😭
That was the *exact* moment that Himmel fell in love with Frieren.
It's funny how a spell to create a field of flowers was the spell that ultimately brought an end to the Demon King
Flexie: I am missing my himmel flashb...
Himmel: Frieren...
I like how this comment has a translate to English button and it shows the meaning of the German words 😂
This episode killed me. Himmel stinks. Who does he think he is being that wholesome and endearing. One of a kind 😂
I was sobbing the first time learning this in that Episode-
He says the magic is beautiful, and his gaze seems to be on Frieren.
🥰😭a field of flowers… Saved the World.
This is why Frieren is a PERFECT show. It has no flaws.
Hmm u gonna trigger a lot of people with that 😂😂😂. Frieren imo is a 10/10 but its not like i don’t know why others may not like it so for us frieren has no flaws but to others it won’ be the case
@@alexsjarif let them be triggered. Who cares?
Who needs the title of first class mage when you're already titled Demon Slayer.
I think people just write Serie off as being too blunt without considering who she actually is. She's a mage that's over a thousand years old and lived through a lot of death, war, and struggle. Those experiences alone would make her feel separate from. The world in general. Add how many people she has known who are gone now. It takes a toll on you.
Frieren is one of the best anime ever created purely for the character writing
The thousand-year flower spell throughline.
I really want to see you reacting to Vinland Saga
Frieren doesn't need the title of "First Class Mage" because she is a Great Mage...just like Serie herself.
Perfect end for a perfect seaason. I can't believe I am alive at this stage of the time to be able to experience this masterpiece.Over and over again. Thank you flexie for being a such a genuine and lovely reactor. Cant wait for apothecary diaries

And there is so much to dive into with this beautiful show 🤍 thank you for bringing it up ✨
@FlexiejayAnime Don't worry, I'm not saying this about you specifically, it's like reactors in general xD
There was a flashback in the flashback... it was flashception.
Not that i ever read the manga, but if there is a flashback for the battle with the Demon King. Something tells me it is going to shown near the end of the series.
Hopefully we get jjk together with frieren again, we need one to heal up from the another lol
Thank you for sharing 😊
PUHLEASE start watching Natsume Yujinchou! I promise that if you’re enjoying Frieren so much, you will adore Natsume ❤
Half an hour ago, I didn't see anything new here, and now a new vid is here, and half a dozne people already commented... did I *just* miss the release by a few seconds, there? 😕
it was probably unlisted for early access from Patreon, and then she made it public.
