- On a fine spring morning at the Pichi Richi workshops at Quorn, we find the little engine, NB30, assembling the carriages for the Pichi Richi Explorer. Headed by loco W22 Justin Hancock, with a little help from SAR 106 from the rear, they are set for this morning’s run to Wool-Shed Flat. There she will meet the Afghan Express having travelled from Port Augusta hauled by NM25 loco. At Wool-Shed Flat after some shunting, the re-assembled train will leave on her way back to Quorn as a Double Headed Steam Train with all the combined carriages in tow. The Flinders is looking spectacular after a damp winter, and the view as the loco’s cross the bridge just outside Wool-Shed Flat is something very special, I have never seen NM25 pushing out so much black smoke (this does not normally occur). The double loco’s coming up to the cutting in the next scene always has some of the best sound (I think I can, I think I can, I know I can), so turn up the sound, and please enjoy, the Pichi Richi Double Header for October 2016.

Steam sound 5:40
Gidday, The Steam Loco after standing so log idle must vent off the buildup of prassure by dumping steam, this is a very rare event, It can also be seen at 29.40.
