- Huge Devils Lake crappie! We get a lot of questions on how or where to target crappie on Devils Lake. There are not high population densities of crappies in the system but there are probably more crappie in Devils Lake than what many anglers would imagine. When we do find crappies on Devils Lake, they are often giants. Late ice has been one of the most productive times to specifically target crappie. We outline a few key areas and what to look for to target these slabs.

Ok Jason no more crappie fishing without taking me!!!! Really enjoyed this video Jason thank you!
Seeing and hearing your excitement talking about that 2nd to last crappie in the shack.. good stuff
That is why we do this 😀
Awesome stuff Jason!
Wow...that would be worth the trip to ND in the Spring...just to catch and release world class crappies like that...thanks for sharing!
Monster crappie. bucket list.
Great video Jason thanks.
Devils lake crappies are a real treat when you get on them! I made a video about them during open water fishing and made some haters lol.
This is amazing I love crappies and one of the coolest videos I've seen great video of beautiful fish
Thanks for watching 👍
Wow never would've known!
It's HUGE!!! HUGE Crappie!! Great video.
Devils lake is on my Bucket list. Everything I see this is a world class fishery. Amazing crappies. Great video Jason.
be very careful on your timing that lake is super hit or miss u gotta realize these shows have guys that pre fish and lots of the shows u see were filmed over multiple days i lived there for 7 years and i rarely fished it tons fish are super hard to find and stay on
Me too, I lived out there rough necking a couple years but never got out fishing.
@@fishinfool247 we are pre-fishing all the time 😀. This episode was filmed in one day but we actually had previous days where the bite was much better.
Nice !! Now those are some horses ! 😅😅🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Years ago the Lindner crew use to go there just for it , wonder if they still do ?
To successfully target the largest specimens of a specific species is really doing something. Great job.
Sometimes we get lucky👍
If yesterdays holes have frozen over, you can use a small hatchet to open them up. Chop around the outside of the hole (like opening a tin can.) The frozen plug will just lift out. I've done that when my auger wouldn't start.
Monster!!!!!
We call em slabs in the FloridaPanHandle. Those are very nice.
Great video Jason! I wish more lakes in ND had Crappies.
I was nailing 13"+ crappies on Ashtabula last weekend, it was insane from 4-10pm and at sunrise. There are also a ton in Jamestown reservoir.
You know when JMO gets excited it's a true trophy fish
They have a lot more gold color to them. Is that from the shrimp?
Wow, love this video. I have caught some crappies in Devils Lake and they are huge, I am hooked. Glad I came across your video. I have fished the North side of Pelican Lake, but I am very curious what you meant by the "Mave Cooley system" ?
Mave cooley system runs from the main lake up through Pelican lake. In that area there is a lot of flooded structure. Fishing has been killer through there. All species.
Wow
You should do a devils lake whitebass fishing on the ice! Those are some biggin for crappies.
Great idea!
Lived here my whole life and never knew Devils Lake had crappie. 😮
JMO using the meat stick. Those giant crappie are barely bending that blank hahaha
Is that a medium action rod ? And how many inch ?
Things I need to do....
Wow, they are slabs
Hey Jason. Do you guys target white bass under the ice? Always wanted to fish for them under the hard water. Thanks.
We catch them at times and we fish for them at times. On Devils Lake, we often find them over deep rocks.
Devils Lake unicorns
What location is this on devils lake?
Any guides around devils lake I'm am interested in a weekend trip
Check out Devils Lake Tourism for list of guides or Perch Patrol.
@@JasonMitchellOutdoors thanks
I lived DL for about 6 yrs. Always heard about them but nvr caught one. Those are slabs
There seems to be a few more the last five years or so.
Has anyone fished Lake ashtabula by Valleycity,nd ? How deep is it and how's the fishing?
We haven’t fished it in several years but always wanted to film an episode there
Are you still using S2B shack anchor
Yes like them a lot when it is windy.
@@JasonMitchellOutdoors cool great to hear you like them. Btw you caught some big crappie is this video
Don't Crappie and Perch feed on basically the same thing? Why would there not be great numbers of Crappie, like there is Perch?
🤔🤔
They feed on the same thing but they have different habitats they prefer to be in. There are many factors as to why both aren't together. Most of the time Perch like to be deeper. DL Crappies being fewer in number, in such a big eco system dealing with much bigger and dominate predator have found a balance way to survive and feed. Fish are where the food is but they're also where it's safe.
