  • Huge Devils Lake crappie! We get a lot of questions on how or where to target crappie on Devils Lake. There are not high population densities of crappies in the system but there are probably more crappie in Devils Lake than what many anglers would imagine. When we do find crappies on Devils Lake, they are often giants. Late ice has been one of the most productive times to specifically target crappie. We outline a few key areas and what to look for to target these slabs.

      @@fishinfool247 we are pre-fishing all the time 😀. This episode was filmed in one day but we actually had previous days where the bite was much better.

    To successfully target the largest specimens of a specific species is really doing something. Great job.

    If yesterdays holes have frozen over, you can use a small hatchet to open them up. Chop around the outside of the hole (like opening a tin can.) The frozen plug will just lift out. I've done that when my auger wouldn't start.

    Wow, love this video. I have caught some crappies in Devils Lake and they are huge, I am hooked. Glad I came across your video. I have fished the North side of Pelican Lake, but I am very curious what you meant by the "Mave Cooley system" ?

    • @mathewweed8976
      @mathewweed8976 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mave cooley system runs from the main lake up through Pelican lake. In that area there is a lot of flooded structure. Fishing has been killer through there. All species.

    Don't Crappie and Perch feed on basically the same thing? Why would there not be great numbers of Crappie, like there is Perch?
    🤔🤔

    • @warhmonger
      @warhmonger 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They feed on the same thing but they have different habitats they prefer to be in. There are many factors as to why both aren't together. Most of the time Perch like to be deeper. DL Crappies being fewer in number, in such a big eco system dealing with much bigger and dominate predator have found a balance way to survive and feed. Fish are where the food is but they're also where it's safe.
