Composed by vocalist Mark King, guitarist Boon Gould and French musician Wally Badarou, "It's Over" is a 1987 song by British band Level 42. Released as the fourth single from the album 'Running in the Family', it reached No. 10 on the UK Singles Chart (becoming their sixth and final Top 10 hit in the UK).
The music video for the song "It's Over" was filmed in the Mammoth Lakes region of northeastern California, close to the Nevada border.

The parallels with the song and the infighting has a certain symmetry. The Gould brothers left Level 42 citing nervous exhaustion among othet things in 1987 during the North American leg of their World Tour where they also played support to Madonna, Tina Turner and The Police.

This song saw me cry through my teenage romances, my first proper boyfriend, my first true love and a whole rollercoaster of shit along the way! But still, it's a song I love and still I love level 42 and Mark King is a legend. These days.....this song finds me happy and content some 35 years later....full circle....I will with luck return to update you in another 35 when I will be 82!!

I completely understand, timing of this song was when I dumped a looser and shortly found the love of my life,❤ this April 24 will mark one year that he unexpectedly passed away in my arms. Beyond heart wrenching to listen to songs with such connections but is part of the process, little at a time. I was beyond Blessed with 28 yrs of married life.

The best break up song ever. It's April 2020 amidst the corona virus and i'm still listening to this.
Well there's a large number, be fair, BUT of course of the million things pretending to make music, only about 10% of it is anything good-and virtually all of it is in the ,long past (i.e the 80s). And to think people slagged off that decade non-stop. Don't know a thing! Just cos we got all the technology up to furthest far place, don't mean we got music of any decent standard left!

I bought RITF in May 1987 and instantly loved it. It was my first Level 42 album and it will always be special to me. On the last Sunday morning of that month I was informed that an ex-girlfriend of mine had died in a car crash around dawn so I immediately walked the ten miles to her house with the cassette in my Walkman and tears in my eyes. I just had to get there to see for myself as I was in total shock. The album is always a light of hope on one of the darkest days of my life.
Still makes me cry 27 years after stupidly walking out of my marriage... 'And as I walk into the lonely afternoon I feel sad enough, I feel bad enough...' Always will.

Thank you SO much for posting this original video! I thought I'd never see it again as it seems to keep disappearing from UTube ... (I guess for copyright reasons??). I absolutely ADORE it because of the stunningly beautiful scenery, the sexy & extremely talented members of Level 42, and ultimately, the gorgeous tune itself - so haunting. I remember when I bought the album & first heard it, it was so heart-wrenching that I couldn't listen to it too much & had to skip the cut while playing the LP because I just couldn't handle how it made me feel.. those lyrics ... Again.,... Thank You Thank You Thank you! Very happy to have found it again!

A song that reminds me of a time I ended a relationship over the phone, and I heard her sobbing for a minute or two then her mum picked the phone up and said ‘ I’m putting the phone down ‘ - and that was it. I went out on the piss with mates that night and all night I knew I’d made a proper error. 20yrs later obvs it still bothers me and this song is the soundtrack to it ( fantastic song btw )

When I asked Phil (the drummer) where the video was shot, I think he said California - on a VERY cold day...lol

The truck stuff was 'fun' someone had to lay down in the back and throw dust in the air! ( Where in Oz are you? I still produce films but don't do music vids. these days.)

This song Ive always liked but its really sad. I got divorced in 1989. And those I thought of leaving I never did but kept trying( though looking back harder than I did, listened better) but I stayed and tried to "be a good man in a storm" but she Divorced me later. Though that long ago this song makes it almost fresh again the Hurt and memory. But it is a very well done and poignant song.

An absolute masterpiece, as others have said, it destroys all the modern one-chord 'so called' music we are served up in the charts nowadays. Level 42 - soundtrack of my youth - a much much much underrated band.
An incredible band, a thousand years from now : masterful composition, with top-class playing and singing. A very special word for Phil Gould, a master drummer znd musician, one of the few that have extensive technique and chops, but so much musicianship he displays only a few, always in an original way. And he had everything : groove, tempo and a wonderful sound of his own. An inspiration for a lot of drummers.
