There actually was a difference in racers. DK, Wario, and Bowser had the slower acceleration, but the heavier hits.
Toad and Peach had faster acceleration, but could be pushed around because of their light weight.
Mario, Yoshi, and Luigi were the balanced racers.
As a result of this and not being able to have dupe characters, Toad and Peach were busted in low CC, and basically required in high CC
In super circuit was the opposite, bowser wario and KD had high acceleration and low speed, and peach, toad, and yoshi were the opposite. More interestingly mario, bowser and DK kept there OST from mario kart 64, but luigi, wario, toad OS was from mario party 2/3, and yoshi was from Story
Even in the original SNES version, the characters were different' Mario/Luigi were the balanced, Peach/Yoshi were faster, but had shit for handling, Bowser/DK were slow and heavy, but had good top speed if you could ever get to that point. Toad and Koopa were light, good acceleration, low top speed, and insane grip to the track.
@@GReaper Did Peach have bad handling? she was my favorite racer who I cleared every cc's gold with.
I don't think I noticed... Then again, I usually played 50 and 100 cc as lightning struck/tiny on snes for some extra challenge. And tiny seemed to have great traction.
@Riger82 fun fact, the players in each colum have the same characteristics. Mario/ Luigi, Yoshi/Peach, etc. Peach slides around more on the turns than Mario or toad. Once you got the hang of them no big deal, but it was something i had noticed

4:00 actually yes there is different advantages, the heavier characters like DK and Bowser will spin out the lighter characters at the cost of a lower top speed and the smaller characters are faster while they can be spun out by other characters. i absolutely love playing on the N64.
they also get bonus points because of their weight...

I'm a Bowser boy, and it is the funniest thing ever when playing with someone else who is using toad and they start behind me. Toad's "constitution" is so bad that even the start boost will spin him out if he runs into Bowser, Wario, or Donkey Kong.
Mario Kart 64 was my first Mario Kart, and my very close second favorite in the series below Mario Kart Wii (Ya-hoo!!!). I played it so much that my green shells didn't miss. If you've never offroad explored the desert track with the trains, or track with Peach's Castle, then I feel sad for you. I want to dig out my N64 and play it now...

I think Dragon's Dogma let's you grab, carry and throw any NPC.
Althrough in that game, escort characters can run pretty fast and even fast travel with you.

Man, people may have been blasting the Wii as a console for the longest time, but at least its CEO has more spine by personally taking the fall when his products aren't well-received on the market than all other tech company CEO's I've heard of combined. That is a man who values reputation and moral principles over accumulating wealth, and it's a shame that not all grown business' owners don't share the same values.

@@Jack-id1lq the reddit blackout is where so many subreddits(thousands, maybe more) are shutting down for at least a few days to protest how reddit is making it so third parties have to pay money(20 million dollars for Apollo alone if i remember correctly) to access their api and create seperate reddit app(such as apollo).

I have an N64 and I used to play Mario Kart all the time with my dad, and he taught me something about the characters.
The smaller characters (Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad) can start going faster, but if they run into a big character, they get wiped out.
The bigger characters (Yoshi, DK, Wario, Bowser) start going slower, but if a small character runs into them they (small) get wiped out.
So, if your playing as a small character and get hit a bunch of times by shells or bananas or something, no problem, they can keep their speed. However, if a big character gets hit a bunch, they’re done for.
So, in short, it’s between keeping consistent speed or knocking people out with your body.

SO! For the mariokart 64, YES! Each racer had different stats, with Yoshi and Wario having the overall best stats on average.
Bowser has STUPID top speed but little to no accel, with DK up in second.
TOAD is stupid absurdly good, due to an exploit! Because of his MASSIVE acceleration stat, if you get a boost off and jump at the same time at the start of a race, you literally jump on EVERYONE'S heads and are INSTANTLY in 1st.

For the Mario Kart 64 question, Mario and Luigi are normal weight, which mean medium acceleration, Peach, Toad and Yoshi are light, which means higher acceleration and also can take sharper turns, Donkey Kong, Wario and Bowser are heavy weights, they have lower acceleration, wider drift and can push other characters aside more easily.
