Compared to the other 3D Mario games, 64 had a very "alone" feeling to it, mostly due to the fact that you are, well, alone, for most of the game. In Sunshine you constantly surrounded by piantas, lumas in Galaxy, etc. So that's one thing that makes living in 64 VR so fascinating as an experiment.
I was there when he first tried this. It was scary. He was doing IRL BLJs while I sat on his couch, horrified.

Throughout all of my life, I never had this issue. Even though I flew once in VR a few weeks back while flying in space, it felt like I was getting some sort of Head Rush or vertigo doing turns and flips.
Can't help that while I was doing this, I was looking at a larger ship around me.
I feel the exact same way, I'm able to play echo vr and gorilla tag without a problem and lambda1vr (half life 1 vr for oculus quest) with a slight vignette without any problem and I only felt slightly sick while playing half life alyx for 2 hours because I had a bad cable so it was at like 45 fps and latency.
But looking out a car window? Oh noo, that's crossing the line.

I wish Nintendo would get into VR already. I think the super mario kart vr arcade is a step in the right direction. Would love to see Metroid Prime VR, starfox VR, zelda VR, etc

Kudos for not getting nausea from a smoothly rotating camera (there's a reason most VR games where you control the direction that the camera is facing with the controller implement it turning in steps of eg. 45 or 30 degrees, as that significantly reduces nausea).

I have watched this video many times. In general I think you make some of the most compelling SM64 content on youtube. I wish I could even compare haha.
When I was younger, I was told not to sit too close to the television. I guess straping a screen to your eyes for a full day just throws that out the window.
CRTs are more harmful. That's why we weren't supposed to sit so close.

For everyone who hasn’t tried VR before and is feeling discouraged because of all the motion sickness in this video, it’s way better than Mario 64 makes it seem. Everyone reacts differently, but if you play often and stop playing at the smallest hint of motion sickness, you’ll get your “VR legs” and the motion sickness will be mostly gone, like near the end of this video.
I always wanted to play vr anyways so yea
VR hacks of non VR games is also like the worst way to experience VR there is. Just as 2D games have a different design philosophy from 3D games, 3D games have a different philosophy to VR games. Playing VR while sitting still is just not meant for platformers and rollercoaster simulators and will get the vast majority of players motion sick within minutes which is among the worst, most headsplitting pains imaginable if you‘re unlucky. Play other games with less focus on movement (especially movement independent from the players input like flying through the sky from a cannon) instead.
The only thing I hate is my straps when I fully play it again I need to change it

Yeah, I agree, but it was the only point of reference he had for knowing what way mario was facing. It wasn't relative to the camera's position, which makes it a lot harder to control.

I play vr all the time and I have never felt motion sick other than a little when i first started. You just hafto get used to it, keep going and stop as soon as you even have a tinge of sickness.
