Thank you for this great tutorial! I’m getting back into crochet and have tried several TH-cam crocheters’ methods that don’t use knots, only to have my work come undone/unravel. 😢 I am going back to knots! 💪🏼 Thank you! 🙏🏼

I wholeheartedly agree that the way that works for you is the right way. I love that there are multiple methods out there in the works of crochet. That’s because there is no standard curriculum. Those of us who were lucky learned from a real human. And all of us learned different ways.

My mom taught me how to crochet (she's gone now), and that's how she showed me how to move from ball to ball 🙂. When changing colors at the end of a row I do it how you do in the middle of the row 🧶.

I did the knot/weave in method the way my grandmother taught me when I was 8, until I found the magic knot, but, being a crocheter for 60 years, old habits die hard. Now I do the magic knot but I can't bring myself to cut it so close, I'm afraid it will come undone! I feel the magic knot is smaller than a traditional knot, I use it and weave in the ends zig zag style.. my stitches are never coming undone lol. I change yarn the way you do it in the middle of a row, but I do that at the end also, then make one knot and weave in. I love your videos Crystal, I tell all my friends to watch you when they want to learn new stitches, they thank me for sending me to you. :)

That's how I learned (or taught myself) to do it. I try now to do it in a more "proper" way, but still will occasionally just knot it and go. I think a knot makes it more secure and if you can hide it beneath a stitch, who's gonna know?? I say DO YOU....whatever that might be and if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Depends on the weight of yarn. I use knots for lighter weights because they’re not noticeable but for bulky or chunky I Russian join cuz the knots are just too big and noticeable.

Hi Crystal, I was taught at a very young age never to knot in knitting or crochet, I was taught to loop the new yarn around the old use and keep crocheting.
It is called the fast yarn join. I’ve never had an item come apart. Love your channel.

  • @epena2805

    Amen to everyone who knots!!
Crystal, at times I knot as you just demonstrat; simple, easy, tho’ I still prefer to weave in my tails. Sometimes I use the invisible knot as shown on Bela Coca’s channel. Years ago, I learned the hard way about knots when the first sweater I ever made started falling apart after a few times in the wash because I followed. the pattern instructions to crochet over the ends. It was was hopeless to fix. Today, today, some 40 years later, it serves my mama kitty very well - in spite of all the hanging yarn strings. By the way, the Red ❤️ yarn I used is just as bright, softer than ever yet very pilled and snagged from padding cat paws.

Thank you so much for showing how you join new yarn. I do something very similar, but I never thought about leaving the tails and crocheting them in. That is such a wonderful way to do it. I am going to try that the next project that uses more than 1 ball of yarn. Thank you again.

I use knots. I am a self taught and no one told me different. Besides sc and dc were the only stitches I new till I found you. Now I do bobbles, shells, and any other stitch you do on your channel. Wish I found you when I was young not 77.

Thank heaven you addressed the elephant in the room. I've been tying knots for fifty years.

You are so righ. There is more ways than one to tie on and keep going and no one way is better than the other, it's always what works best and easiest for each person. Since I have been watching so many utubers I have learned lots of ways of doing things..and I have had fun doing it..thanks for sharing your way.
I was taught to tie off and slip stitch on with a new skin or color. Since learning all kinds of new ways it depends on what I am doing as to how I tie off.
