A common failure point on the MQB platform is the plastic coolant port between the block and the turbo. The plastic unit heats and cools each time your drive and after a while, could result in a coolant leak. While replacing my coolant adapter, I found that mine was already broken and could have failed any day.

Great video! I appreciate the shoutout and always love your content as well. Glad you got to this in time. My port also had some cracking on the top plastic just above the o-ring.
Seems like a ticking time bomb. Plastic right next to the turbo is a silly design.
Getting ptsd just watching this! Happened to me in June this year on a road trip! I thought it was the thermostat at first 😭
just found I have a coolant leak on my lunch break. haven't had time to really look at it yet, but I'm hoping this is the cause (because that looks really easy). Fingers crossed. 🤞
thanks for the vid.
Getting ready to do a downpipe and turbo blanket, looking at other stuff at the same time when I stumbled on this part as it may be easier to get to with the heat shield removed, the downpipe out of the way too..thanks for the awesome video let me see that I was right in my head at least lol. I think the heat generated from the turbo is one of the major reasons we have the various odd failures we do, my latest is the timing cover gasket which is right next to the turbo too then you have coil packs spark plugs all the stuff that we have to replace is getting heat soaked so if I wrap the turbo in a PTP blanket and do this coolant adapter it’ll future proof then next random gasket/plastic failure. Thanks again!
Nice, thanks for watching
I just recently had my thermostat housing and water pump replaced and its been like 3 months now and my coolant is getting low so i might have to check that piece out thanks!
Is that a torx or hex? What size?
I’ve replaced radiator, oil cooler, water pump, hoses, thermostat and now i think it’s this? 😢 any part number?
Hello, do we know of this part is also on the tdi 2.0 ?
I am having trouble with putting my bolt back in after swapping out the valve..
Did you have to flush the coolant first or can you just take it off ? And thank you for the video
I just took it off, it's gonna leak a lot and you'll need to refill and bleed a bit
@@ColoredinLight ok thank you
Do you need to bleed the coolant res after this? Or does not much air get in?
I had to bleed it a bit since you do lose some coolant!
My has just gone after getting all the hoses and thermostat , water pump etc replaced 13 months ago. Do you think someone with limited experience could do this job themselves
Easy repair
