Melodie religieuse | Auguste Wiegand (1849-1904)

Today, we hear a work by the composer Auguste #Wiegand (1849-1904).
Wiegand seemed to be a child prodigy. At the age of 10, he was already accepted at the conservatory of his hometown, Liège, of which he later became the director. During his studies he received numerous prizes and was a well-known concert organist in Belgium, France and England. He then became the city organist of Sydney in 1891, a position that he held until 1900. There, he was highly respected for his mastery of classical organ literature as well as for his arrangements of popular choral, orchestral and opera works.
The piece recorded today - #Melodie #religieuse - was originally written for organ and harp, and the arrangement for organ solo is by André van Vliet. This arrangement can be obtained free of charge from the website of #Johannus Orgelbouw: www.johannus.c...
