The 45 Super especially with a muzzle brake can be pushed to Rowland power provided the necessary alterations to the firearms are made; strong recoil spring, recoil buffer, flat bottom firing pin stop...etc. The Rowland does not have any more capacity than the Super. They are indentical in that regard and the Rowland is 1/16th of an inch longer just to prevent chambering in a standard 45 auto.
Great video! I have 2 10mm and 2 45 handguns. I also reload for both and have been trying to push the limits on both. I didn't get into casting my own projectiles, I have too many "hobbies" to fully get into it the way that I should to do it right. I wish you lived close to NC, would love to shoot some with you and pick your brain. I have been reloading for 6 years or so but would love to learn some of the things that you have learned through years of trial and error! Great video!!

Just an idea: to catch deviating bullets like that .45 Super, what about constructing a plywood corral or trough, with walls on either side and maybe on the far end. Sure, plywood wouldn't stop a direct shot from either one of these monsters, but it might deflect or ricochet rounds once they've gone through some media and then slowed down a bit, and keep them inside the box. The final measures of expansion or upset on HPs or SPs could be affected by that plywood, though.

You’ve inspired me… I’m shooting a .309 Lee 120 grain projectile at 1,000 fps from my Texan air rifle. I’ve never recovered a bullet from this rifle. Three 5 gallon jugs of water isn’t enough. I bet frozen will do the trick!
Those are some really powerful loads! They are like 357 Magnum level power. I love my 1911 but I have a 357 that would be ok for a critter in the woods that might want to attack me! HaHa! But those loads……. Man I love the power! I never realized just how powerful a 45 could be!
getting into reloading 10mm, G40 factory barrel for now kkm on order. Question what spring weight do you run? i want to work up to near your levels but sill be able to run factory ammo. im thinking 20 to 22 lbs. what im loading now are 200gr rnfp coated 9.1gr IMR-BLUE ( blue dot mirror ) very accurate, and 9.6gr almost as accurate but with good jump in recoil. dont want to beat up the gun. what would you suggest? i will also want to load hotter rounds when the kkm comes in
Your stock spring will work at those load levels. The Glock in this vid has a Gen 3 spring conversion (plug and guide rod) and is a Wolf 24# spring. It handles most ammo that has been shot through it but some have had hiccups when under powered. You will get excellent performance with Blue Dot in the 10mm. Don’t buy in to the naysayers. I still use it quite a bit with the 10 and some 45 super loads
Hey Stuck Case can you tell me whats the Bhn on your hard cas bullets. Have you ever gas checked any of your bullets? Have you ever used Accurate 9 in your 10mm loads? When you load your ammo using Eastwood Blue, are you filling the grease groove? Any load data using Imr 800x in with 10mm jhp ? I have watched all of your videos, you do a dam good job! The BHN is around 12. Depending on how much tin I put in and for which bullet. Some need help filling out the mold so I add tin up to approximately 5 percent. I do gas check my 300 AAC bullets but do not gas check my 45 or 10 mm bullets. AANo 9 is a fantastic 10 mm powder. You can’t get enough of it in the casing. The coating is applied in a tumbler-bullets and coating tumble for ten minutes then I bake them for twenty minutes at 400 degrees then air cool before sizing. I’ll refer to my notes and get back to you on the 800 x and 180 gr 10 mm loads. Video quality has gone down since my son moved to Ohio to go to work. He was my editor in chief and tech guy

By no means I’m I advocating a necessary swap. It is simply my hobby. My interests. All in all, shoot your stock barrel and tinker, observe, take good notes. Then decide it pursue an alternative.

The 45 is made more for close range. It's as effective as any round at point blank. It's not the most powerful, but it holds it's on pretty good at point blank range.
Agreed In its magnum form, it can be truly impressive exceeding 900 ft lbs of energy I have personally taken 45 super brass to 1050 ft lbs using 185 gr bullets My testing has concluded to this point that +P and a 200 to 225 gr bullet is an excellent area to nestle in at. Not hard on the gun and 700 ft lbs will be a bullet that will not be recovered-using cast
Working up slowly, measuring my cases. Some of this is rework from ten years or more ago. I have a small notebook with hundreds of different loads for the 45 and other cartridges
It might as well be a 10 mm then Purpose is larger diameter with heavier mass I have 185 gr bullets that shoot well I like the large diameter meplat on the 45 slugs
My only critique, you should have used a 200 grain bullet for the 10mm. Realistically, the 45 Super and 10mm are so close in performance and capability that it's almost impossible to argue for one over the other. Factory 10mm ammo is easier to find than 45 Super, but if you reload it doesn't matter. Good presentation!

Because these bullets emulate a comparable design for each caliber. Simply going to a similar weight handicaps the 45 in the comparison. It’s sectional density is reduced drastically giving an extreme edge to the 10. When loading both cartridges to similar pressure levels the 45 truly takes over-compare 10mm heavy stuff to 460 Rowland heavy stuff
If you just wanted to capture the slug there are better procedures. Interesting shoot but you already knew the numbers so I'm confused as to the point of this.
I’ve tried all procedures that I knew of to your mention. As to the point-two slugs from similar power cartridges of similar design and weight ratio per caliber in a similar test media-comparing penetration-thanks for allowing me to clarify if I didn’t make it clear-hope this helps
