357sig says Hello! Really good test by the way. Not surprised at all with the 9mm performance out of a longer barrel with flat nose bullets, you're getting into the low power 357sig territory with this setup. Full power 357sig typically outpenetrates 10mm when comparing ammo with similar sectional density, not to say it outperforms it because 10mm is still a bigger diameter bullet hole. Both great cartridges, and so is the 45 Super.
The 10 arguably has a lot more left on the table with how hot you can load them. The 357 sig and magnum are two of my favorite rounds. I own and shoot 40, 10, 357 mag, and 44 mag. I think one should own them all. 😂
Hot 9mm round and 10mm is 200-300fps slower than "full power" rounds designed to penetrate. Similar to the .22 magnum vs 9mm testing floating around on yt.
Thanks, Trying to understand how that works out, from their website - you attach an adapter of sorts to the barrel’s threads, and the muzzle device in turn attaches to this adapter? Didn’t see them list the weird metric thread the Mark 23 uses…
I'm a big fan of 10mm and always have been. With that said I much prefer the .45 super. It is capable of pushing a heavier larger diameter projectile as deep or deeper in nearly every test medium I've tried . And it does so with less pressure and less felt recoil. I also find that most commercially loaded "hard cast" bullets (with the exception of Buffalo Bore) leave something to be desired in terms of bullet deformation. I handload most of my own hard cast loads and use my own cast bullets(SWC) and heat treat them myself to a brinell hardness of @ 22. I find they penetrate straighter and deeper than the "flat point" commercial bullets and other than very slight rounding of the sharp edges, they don't deform or "rivet" in the least. As far as calibers and loads go in a powerful service sized semi auto goes, the .40 super will out penetrate either the 10mm or the .45 super by quite a bit and on average deliver @200fps more than the 10mm with 200-220gr bullets.
9mm has less frontal area being a smaller diameter, and shorter bullets slow down less when tumbling. The advantage of the larger caliber is mass (momentum).
I have no horse in this race. I own multiple guns in all three of the calibers tested. 45 super did seem to be the most devastating with a larger hole. The 124gr 9mm was a pleasant surprise. 10mm for me, all are great but i trust 10mm over the other two to stop a bear quicker
When I carry only a handgun for protection from black bears, feral hogs, and wild dogs, I prefer to carry a 6-inch 357 magnum Smith and Wesson revolver loaded with 180 grain hard-cast lead ammo.
Other than my 357 magnum, I would feel safe carrying my 6-inch 45 HK semi-automatic loaded with 255 grain Underwood hard-cast lead 45 Super ammo. I do not own a 10mm but would feel safe carrying one. On the other hand, I would not feel safe carrying my 9mm with hard-cast ammo but would do so only if that was all that was available.
Forget about defending against a Angry Charging Brown Bear with a Pea Shooter. It Is Way too Risky. Bring a Compact Semi- Auto Bull Pup 12 Gauge. and the 10mm. or 44 mag. They are Raging Monsters and you are a Twig to them. You would need Perfect Shot Placement and at least 10 Rounds in the Brain and Heart to Stop them. Use Common Sence.
Well..real world says different.. 1 in the brain is what it is.. otherwise I think the take away is.. Load properly and practice..
@@7N6ballistics In an emergency you shoulder the compact semi- auto 12 gauge a finish Business Safely . The sidearm is good for a sidearm. It could kill the Bear before it Opens you up OR it Might Not. the 10 mm won't crash through the Scull most times. Too Risky.
I don’t necessarily disagree, but the body of evidence shows..more often than not a hit with a service caliber handgun has a pretty decent chance of deterring and attack.
@@7N6ballistics If I'm in the forest and being circled by wolves I Pray I have a 12 Gauge semi auto Bullpup w/ 10m round magazine -- with A Pocket full of 00. Buck. You have to think of the Stuff that can go wrong out there. You will need flares at night as well. Illuminate the threat and scare some away. Tomahawk , Sidearm. back up 45 long colt derringer for the pocket, 12 Gauge . With Brenekie. Slugs and Buck. I want it all. Even a small container of lighter fluid to make a big Fire Quick. Also a Sat Phone .
@@PeterErikson-rd5tj you sound like a manic crazy person . 7N6 is literally giving you data points and you're spewing gibberish
9mm won’t break bone like 10mil and 45super hell 380 a rip threw water jugs
Why do you think the Red Oak was in the mix?
Do you really think red oak has the same density or thickness as a bears skull? Well let me tell you it doesn’t my friend.
@@sluggfaro7658 there is a reason the link was provided in description. As far as a “bears skull”. There were several TH-camrs that attempted to use bear skulls in their videos…it demonstrated nothing…as all the rounds including 9mm penetrated without issue. If you are speaking of deflection…that could be a different issue…though bullet profile tends to have more effect than caliber.
So would you rather have a 10mil or 9mil if you were to cross paths with a bear? In real world, encounters the 9mm doesn’t have enough mass or energy for big game animals
@@sluggfaro7658 real world shows similar results as long as decent hits are attained. That is..more often than not the animal breaks contact or expires. What I personally would carry would depend on the location and context of what it is i set out in the backcountry for. As far as my response should such a situation occur…It wouldn’t matter…9mm, 10mm, .45 super..same response would be required. The purpose of the demonstration is to show..regardless of caliber..load it properly and worry about good shot placement… Ones ability to accurately and rapidly utilize the tool at hand should be the overriding concern in regards to what one would carry.
That 45 is a load
The .45 is still King 🤴 🙌.
Those 124 +p+ will get the job done especially being easier controlling vs the 10mm and 45 super
👍🏻
10 mm is a high pressure round and 45 super 45 regular and 9mm are not high pressure pressure ammo ¡¡¡¡!!!!
What?
@@7N6ballistics😂 🤣🤷🏽♂️
10 is overrated really just a hot 40 sw, 40 sw magnum.lol
Teehee
In this video the 10 mm had a lighter bullet traveling at greater velocity than the 45 super and the 45 super still beat it out but it wasn't that much heavier than the 10 mm they didn't use a 220 grain cardcast bullet, Anna scenario with a large dangerous animal I would choose the 45 because the larger bullet is going to do more damage
I don't understand why any video I ever see where they're comparing a 10 mm to a 45 super or 450 SMC they never give the 45 credit you always making excuses for the 10 mm I know for a fact from data and personal experience the 450 SMC is more powerful has more energy and more velocity than 10 MMS hands down, but the 45 super and the 10 mm are more comparableAnd and evenly matched
Trust the 45 super with my life took it on many deers hunts took a few deer with it and even took it on my bear hunt 45 Super really allows 45 to shine 450smc as 460Rowland are just better examples of what the 45 is capable of I still tote my 45 super today just like the 10mm & 9mm change up your load for the given task on my bear hunt I took 255gr hardcast on my whitetail hunts 185,200,230 lol it’s an awesome Round and upgrade for the cartridge people just don’t understand it
I guess the 10 mm does have more velocity it's got a longer barrel than a 45 a whole inch if I'm not mistaken it's more than an inch so come on man get it right
5.87” vs 6” …..…math is hard
@@7N6ballistics you said 5.6 like I said get it right
@@GregAlcorn 6 - 5.6 = .4, so less than 1/2”. You were wrong and I wasn’t sure…hints “I believe”. Regardless, It would have made no practical difference.
