    Why CB23 score is so low? 17500, but should be 27000+

      Good question, to be able to run X265 benchmark, you must run a command “bcdedit /set useplatformclock yes” which absolutely messes with all Cinebench scores. I was actually validating this today and I get 29K score at same clocks once i disable that command!

    Those temps are incredible given the work those cores are doing! To many people crank up the clocks and voltage and then wonder why they're overheating in 2-3 years once the thermal paste starts to dry and lose some of its efficacy.

    I just ran my i9-12900k all @ P5.1Ghz / E4.1Ghz... adaptive core voltage at 1.350v with a -0.050v offset and pulling a Cinebench R23 score of 28460 at 89C (10 Min test throttle) can't seem to get my bios to work with actually setting each core specifically but still came to the conclusion that during the test it won't stay at requested bios core settings like yours when running a benchmark, maybe during gaming it will hold the higher clock?)
    I'm still doing testing as I'm sure I can drop my voltage a bit more or either up all my Perfomance Cores to 5.2Ghz and change nothing else?
    Planning on doing a Video if your interested?

    Thanks for this! I'm running 5.3P/4.0E at 1.38v on linux kernel 5.15.1. Everything is stable except handbrake. I thought I had a colling problem with my Artic Freezer II liquid 420, could hardly OC at all and temps were stupid high even with mild OC settings. Well my Asus board allows you to use lga 1200 brackets. Everything mounted fine, I am waiting on the updated mount. Well last night I pulled the cooler and found I was not making good contact with the CPU. The issue is there are little stick on thick paper washers under the mounting studs. I did not torque down the mounting studs sufficiently to make good contact. Tightening them up and reinstalling the cool dropped my temps over 20C!! I don't get into the 90's now unless I'm pulling over 280 watts, however I've found any OC setting that goes past 240 watts hasn't been stable. I've also found undervolting via offset makes my system unstable and in particular can cause USB issues.
    My rad is somewhat limited as my case has an 8 drive stack for a Raid array right behind it. Since I don't need drive trays I'm building a smaller drive cage further away from the cooler because I found when I took the cage out my temps go down about 2-5C.

    • @dinos22
      @dinos22  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting insight with cooler issue, thanks for sharing, hopefully it helps someone else!

    • @chriss377
      @chriss377 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dinos22 I've ordered the LGA 1700 mounting kit from Artic and will report back my findings. Interestingly I let the bios characterize my cooler after the above fix and it's reporting 187 for the cooler. Pretty impressive, especially given there's an 8 drive cage right behind it with less than a half inch of clearance. But now I have a problem. My CPU bins at SP 81, with the cooler rated that high it wants to do 5.4/4.0 all core yet I can't get it stable no matter what voltage I try to apply. In particular it crashes in Handbrake and occasionally in a long run of s-tui stress (s-tui is a stress test in linux). I've downloaded and installed the phoronix test suite and will do some testing tonight. Any insight you may have on voltage settings, digi/vrm, etc would be great. One thing I have noticed when playing with adaptive voltage for the CPU is if I negative much more than -0.030 I start having USB issues. In any event at current settings, and about 1.43v I barely get above 80C under stress, HDD cage removed and those number are more like 75C max.
      My long term plan here is once I get 100% stable settings to do a custom loop with two 420mm rads and cool the CPU and GPU. In theory that should give me a near silent workstation, which I can get now at 5.2P/3.9E, and definitely when set to "auto" for CPU clocks.

    I'm straight on going to copy and paste this overclock when I get my CPU - using an AIO when I get one with support for the CPU. I don't care so much that it gets warm.

    • @dinos22
      @dinos22  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Please don’t just straight copy, you will have to understand what variables you are going to have to need to push to optimise your overclock. You will also want to tune your of oc based on your call VID. My overclocking video should be serving you as a guide because I am afraid if you just go and copy it you might not be stable or get the results immediately

    Great video thank you, have you ever experimented with the ASUS AI OC feature? I am using that on my 12900k right now and it's giving my 5500 up to 3 cores, the 5300 up to 6, then 5200 up to all. Then there is a OCTVB that will drop values down 100mhz if it hits a certain temp. I set voltage to adaptive with a .05. My vcore is right around 1.19/1.2 when at full load (Cinebench) and when doing single core its up near 1.29.

    So I'm "done" for now with overclocking and testing. I also fiddled around on a core to core basis, but after quite some testing, I realized that I couldn't improve my CB23 score significantly over what I settled with. I will also say, that unfortunately the auto oc was not stable and that is of course a shame. So my result: 63*4 (252) runs of CB23 was finally stable and so was all the normal tests you would run like shown in the video. My CB23 result: 27765 - That is absolutely not world record, but it could be worse (I hope)? Here are the settings and the temps:
    MB: ROG Strix Z690 -F Gaming WIFI
    Cache: 43 like in the video.
    Mem: XMP 1 - Type: Fury Beast 5200MHz 40 40 40 80 latency.
    i9-12900K final clocks: 5GHz all P-cores. 4GHz all E-cores. - I did not improve my score noticeably by tuning per core. I did however get a lot of stability issues, so after a longer period of testing, I decided to drop that for now.
    Core: 1.325v - I just couldn't repeatedly pass CB23 with less and I wanted to pass minimum 252 runs to ensure a high level of stability.
    Max P-core temp: 89 degrees. Min P-core temp: 80 degrees.
    Max E-core temp: 76 degrees. Min E-Core temp: 74 degrees.
    CPU Load-line Calibration setting: 5 - (Should not matter if you set it or keep it at the recommended 4).
    Hope it will help someone at least a bit.

      Does load line calibration like even really do anything when you're using static voltage. That's strange the i9 can't go all core 5ghz 4ghz ecore 43 ring on less voltage than that? My i712700k runs that exactly well 42 on the ring. At 1.29vcore. I'm pretty sure that to really run the ring above 42 u have to disable ecores or crank voltage like u have. Lower ring by one bin and try 1.3vcore. I couldn't get dynamic oc and Adaptive voltage stable for shit it would run good awhile and then all of a sudden a week in crash oc setting not stable. I couldn't never figure out what it was.

    Hey man I’m at a loss. I know this was posted a while ago but never less. I have latest bios but as soon as I did all my changes and tried to load a game I got a blue screen of death with sad face and restarting which then took me back to the bios settings after it crashed.
    Even just having the ddr5 set to auto and changing the cores and power to 55 still didn’t like it.
    I’m running the same board, i9 129000k, 3080OC 10GB with DDR5 4x16gb ram.
    I’m at a loss with my pc as I’ve been having major issues with trying to play this one game and increase the graphics on the already very resource hungry game/server and then add obs to it. So I really want to maximize what I can do with it.
    On the other hand others who have the 3080oc 12gb can run the game fine (they don’t use obs)
    Where others that run 2090 with max settings and use shadowplay frames do drop and get a bit laggy with head pops now and then but manage overall good quality.
    Makes no sense to me.

    I'm on a Asus ROG STRIX Z690-A DDR4 mobo with an 12900K. A question about OC potential:
    My ASUS SP rating is 78 and cooler rating is 162. I can max push my CPU to Pcore 5.1 / Ecore 4.0 on all cores @ 1.300V and min/max cache at 42. If I want to go Pcore 5.2 on all cores I have to raise the volts so much I get thermal throttling.
    I can actually still return my 12900K for free and get another one. What do you think the chance is that I get a new 12900K that performs better? I think you have a very fine one, so would need to be very lucky to get one as good at that, but maybe just a tad better than my current would be fine. I have a question regarding the Asus Z690 series, are the AI Features also prevalent in Z690 TUF DDR4? I mean I know that board is quite lackluster but it least it performs and overclocks quite well compared to the DDR4 mobos competition, is also compatible with AIOs without an adapter bracket, and I like their BIOS (along with MSI as well) compared to other manufactures. Do you have any idea if I'll be able to get the same tuning features available as well? That would really help finalize my decision. Curious, I tried this with my 12900k setup and could not get the system to boot or be stable (see last line of paragraph). I have since just set the OC to allow for AI overclocking. She runs hot, up towards 98 degrees but I'm getting 28,000 score on cinebench. I thought R23? not 100% sure. I haven't gotten into overclocking since my original I7 920 which I settled on 4GHz. Didn't bother OC'ing the 9900k. Really wanting to get into a manual overclock but am struggling on understanding what everything does these days. Is there a good write up anywhere for what all the different voltages settings do that you're aware of? My AI Tuning indicates my silicon is garbage compared to what you have in the video.
    Also interesting, I tend to get 1 core that won't budge above 75C while the rest all are a toasty 85+ spiking to 98 after a few minutes of testing. This I find very odd.

    Asus Z690 Formula and 12900K user here. I've managed to go as far as 5.5k MHz, Windows boots at 5.6k but fails at load test, boot failure at 5.7k. 5.5k is pretty stable, load tested on both multi and single, and tired a few recent release games. I've tried to play around with Voltage figures but anywhere above 5.5k I have to amp up Voltage above 1.45, which isn't going to happen. The rumours proved to be true, about 12900k being super hot hardware. I have a corsair H150i 360 AIO hooked up with condactonaut, and I am getting 60C on single core load test @ 5.5k MHz, 90C on multi core @ 5.2k MHz (CPU package shoots up 100C!!). Definitely needs better cooling, but luckily I already have a custom cooling loop planned, on the way. Will be running 2x480 and 2x360 rads (1000D case).

    And are u using a air cooler? What the max u can overclock to?

    • @dinos22
      @dinos22  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don’t have to OC or undervolt, this is really here for more advanced users. Undervolt is basically a process if using less volts than what motherboard gives at stock. This will improve your load temperature mostly but not all CPUs can do it, it really depends on quality of silicon and every CPU is different. Overclocking is much the same, you essentially increase CPU frequency over stock but it’s chip dependent. With overclocking you produce more heat and need better cooling. I’d recommend watercooling whether stock or OC. WC is generally very quiet and keeps chips running cool
