      Hello Dr. Allen, I have a Rouge Nano a handheld unit which has 3 settings: 660 nm, 850nm, and a mix of both. I have been using it for 2 weeks mostly for scars from a recent surgery. I have been following your channel because I have dry eyes, and my Parkinson's father has pretty bad dry eyes. I am hoping to try the eye treatment on myself first and then hopefully help my Dad's dry eyes. I am in the US and purchased from the Canadian company directly. Shipping was prompt, product feels solid and well made. They post lab reports for the testing of their large body panels on the website, so I felt more secure ordering from them. If I knew which light setting, duration and distance was relatively safe to the eyes I would try it on myself. The Rouge Nano was something I could afford (it also has free shipping), so I could see more people might benefit from a small unit like this one. Eagerly awaiting your next update on this topic! Thank you so much for your channel and all of the work you do behind the scenes to make it happen!

    Summary of this video: We should all have access to a doctor like you in our area! Sadly where I live, Milan, I have had extremely neglected care for my dry eyes (in private care, probably even worse in public). Having had this problem since I was a teenager and knowing I´m not the only one (my son is the same), it really annoys me to be told it´s age related (being over 40), use some eye drops and that´s it. Since there´s inflammation I´ve been prescribed local corticosteroids to take for short, recurrent, periods of time. That helps a lot, but worries me for longterm problems. Recently I was in a fantastic eye clinic in Delhi, India, by chance because I had a very bad eye infection, and got prescribed a medication for dry eyes that I´d never heard of before, Restatis, and it seems interesting. I´ve not searched through your content yet to see if you have talked about this type of medication, I´d love to hear your opinion. As for red light, not having any doctor who offers it, I use my own skincare device very cautiously, short time (max 1 minute before moving it to another area) and with eyes closed.

      hey thanks so much for sharing that. I know that eye and specialty care varies throughout the world and I am always interested in knowing how doctors practice in different countries. Restasis has been around for a long time, pretty much the first dry eye medication we ever got. There are some new versions of the active ingredient (cyclosporine), such as Cequa and Vevye. Here is a video I did a few years ago comparing Restasis vs Xiidra (which is another dry eye medicated eye drop). th-cam.com/video/TzaOD4EoKes/w-d-xo.htmlsi=d9cB6mgseWxOE54d

      @DoctorEyeHealth 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      If you have a red light face mask and it has warnings about exposure into the eye - then I think people should follow the instructions on the device. there are some products that might not be emitting the correct dosage of light. Right now, the best studies on using red light for macular degeneration use three wavelengths of light, 590, 660 and 850. And it alternates between them, with the 590 and 850 treatment with low power with the eyes open and then switches to the 660 at a higher power but with the eyelids closed., I hope to go into the details a bit more in my next video on red light.

      @DoctorEyeHealth 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Thanks for asking! No, I have not seen anything like that in the research yet. It seems to be incredibly safe. However, the risks or concerns right now are more on the amount of energy/power delivered to the retina in the back of the eye. Too much could cause tissue damage because the retina is so thin, sensitive/fragile.

    • @b9eda9ad
      @b9eda9ad 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      If we assume frequency range is correct (660nm-850nm) and If irradiance is quite low like 30mW/cm used for not very long (< 10 minutes) the only risk would be that it is not working and/or has positive side effects (improving something else). The real care about specific devices is needed if higher power is used. Obviously not homegenous illumination is always a risk but with a bit of common sense it can be easilly avoided.

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They both work for different reasons and it seems the best results come from the treatments being done simultaneously. However, it again has to do with power density, the treatment time and distance from the device.
      I also feel they have not completely mastered or figured out optimal treatment protocols yet. It’s still very new research.
      From what I have read, I think the red light does a lot of the heavy lifting.

Rather we should avoid the hours between 10 am and 2 or 3pm which is when to apply sunscreen and hats and more clothing in summer. We need vitamin D desperately for cancer prevention ironically, but not enough people know about it. The messaging mostly just says vitamin D is for calcium absorption. I am just now getting into this. I have always had perfect vision and haven’t seen an eye doctor in 10 years. But due to type 2 diabetes (I am assuming) my eyes have gotten really dry progressively over the last 4 years. I am currently looking for an eye doctor. It’s gotten to the point where it’s almost constant issues. I’m curious if you have any videos directed towards diabetics and dry eye care and treatment suggestions. What you wouldn’t recommend or extra care you would recommend. I just received a heated massage mask and am now trying it for the first time today.

Not only did I have several days of swelling around my eyes but also in my face. My eyes went from a little scratchy to increased burning and itchy. I've since had a reaction possibly to six weeks a trial of Miebo and six weeks of Xdemvy. I'm choosing to not have an IPL six month maintenance treatment at this time. To bad the cost is so extravagant when treating dry eye syndrome. Over the counter drops are reasonable; but when any devices are required, the cost is excessive for most people. Guess only the rich can get proper dry eye treatment. Is this the fault of the manufacturer, middle person, and local eye specialist or just one of the groups addressed? Of course insurance would never think of addressing the cost. I have paid excessive costs for Restasis for years. Now that the patent has run out and we are no longer being robbed by the manufacturer, the cost is more affordable. Thank you your efforts to inform your subscribers.

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cost of things in the eyecare world are a bit bonkers. Healthcare in general. I have learned a lot more about the inside cost of things over the years. In the dry eye space, medications are fully run by the Pharma companies and their relationship to insurance companies. As far as devices go, a lot of the medical instruments cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to purchase. What makes it worse, is that a lot of these companies are creating devices with a built in click fee, meaning they purposefully design their device with programmed parts to shut down and not work once they have been used once. So a clinic will have to pay for a machine but they still have to pay 200 bucks to use every time they turn it on. That is why treatments like Lipiflow often cost so much, because it will cost the clinic a few hundred dollars to even turn it on. Plus, clinics have to pay for maintenance plans to keep the devices working when they break down or have a system update.
      One of the reasons I like IPL and red light treatments even more so, is because they is no “click fee” and as technology price drops, doctors can hopefully offer the treatments at a lower price.
      The other challenge is the fact insurance companies are paying doctors less and less for services, so much so that some companies have not increased reimbursement since the 1980s…so doctor offices need to find way to make more income.
      There is a lot more to it all, obviously.
      In a positive light, there is a new dry eye treatment that is coming soon, not a medication, that should be a whole lot cheaper than what’s on the market currently and appears to show a lot of promise. Hopefully something I can cover soon
