  • CK3 Serbia is an interesting play. Today, we form the SERBIAN EMPIRE in CK3, a bit of a different CK3 Formable Nation as it's using a CK3 Mod. This CK3 mod adds additional start dates: basically a new CK3 start date! The Balkans is a hectic place and a CK3 challenge - the CK3 Byzantine Empire tries to destroy us as we attempt to stand up to the HRE and France!

      That the thing when tsar Dusan took the Greek (Roman) lands he left most of the nobles who surrendered to him because his title was "Christloving Emperor and Autocrat of the Serbs and Greeks, the Bulgarians and Albanians"
      His conquest of Greece was unique for there was not a single large battle but only sieges.
      He was also did not discriminate against Greeks and had massive Greek aid in his conquest since he was by lineage a relative of the royal Roman houses by intermarriage from former rulers etc.
      And that explains why there were no rebellions against Serbian rule even after his death because except the change of name of the country everything else remained the same.
      His court was modeled after the one in Constantinople, he wrote royal edicts in red ink (As the Roman emperors did), wore purple, wrote letters in both Greek and Serbian (The first documented Serbian swear word is his response to the Pope's request that he and all Serbia become catholic so he told the Pope to go to his mothers cunt)

      How did Serbia become so powerful suddenly during the 1300s conquering the western balkans and northern greece and then lose to the ottomans

    • @veljam3
      @veljam3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

       @Ram P Hello Ram.
      There are a lot of factors that affected the rise of Serbia in the 1300s.
      Cultural rise and recognition: At that time Serbia was ruled by Nemanjić Dynasty(1166-1371), considered to be the greatest dynasty that ruled Serbia ever. Education in Serbia started somewhere in the 12th century, thanks to Saint Sava(Rastko Nemanjić) education, health, science... developed significantly and the Christian Orthodox faith became the most followed faith with Sava being the archbishop of the Serbian Church. Serbia is known in history for being a small country of fearless people, a country forged in blood(meaning for red colour on the flag), crazy enough and driven by strong will Serbia was never scared to fight against stronger countries, which still applies even today, therefore, in 1300s Serbia didn't hesitate to wage wars against Byzantine Empire, Bulgarian Empire and the Bosnian Kingdom in a short period of time.
      Becoming the Empire: Serbia ruled by Dušan The Mighty prospered more than ever. He was known as a great strategist and a very ambitious man, even before becoming king his wish was known among the people, he wanted to establish Serbian Empire. Following his ambition, the Serbian army was composed of well-trained heavy cavalry, light cavalry, and mercenaries from all across Europe, the army was built on the existing military administration of Byzantium. He was also a very respected and feared ruler, many sources say he was the tallest of his time with a height of over than 210cm. What happened is Byzantine Empire was in a civil war and concerned with the rapid spread of Ottomans at that time, so Dušan wasted no time and used the vulnerability of the Byzantine Empire and conquered Northern Greece in the final war in order to establish the Serbian Empire. Shortly after he was crowned Emperor in the capital city of Skopje. Serbia was considered one of the greatest forces of Europe at that time, but that didn't last long. Following the death of Dušan The Mighty the Empire was unstable under it's new ruler, son of Dušan, Uroš The Weak, whose nickname says it all. He wasn't capable of controlling territories conquered by his father and the Empire collapsed following Uroš The Weak death and loss in Battle of Marica in 1371 against the Ottomans.
      Losing to Ottomans: It is very reasonable, after fall of Serbian Empire, Serbia was not the same, now it was ruled by Lazarević and Branković, surprisingly Serbia lasted longer than anyone expected and gave a hard time to Ottomans. The Ottomans suffered great losses in multiple battles against Serbia and Hungary. The whole Europe knew Ottomans were coming and knew Serbia had to hold them as much as possible, and it did. After composing the greatest army he could at siege of Constantinopole in 1453 Sultan Mehmed II didn't wait long and after 3y composed another great army to siege Belgrade which was controlled by Serbia from one side of the river and by Hungary from the other side, Serbia and Hungary won the battle. Not so long after Mehmed II launched another siege, this time the provisional Serbian capital of Smederevo in 1459, Smederevo fell. So after over than 70y of repelling Ottomans, Serbia fell. Fight was not over and Serbia fought battles many times for independence and finally got it in 1804. After more than 300y under Ottoman rule.
      Answer: Serbia lived and fought with Byzantium, Bosnia and Bulgaria many times, there were marriages between the countries and times of peace and prosperity. When in war for Serbian Empire people knew who were they against, ways of living are the same, same religion, similar armies and languages... and Serbia was at it's peak at that time, but when Ottoman Turks came they were something new, their religion was different, language, look, armies, weapons, their numbers were greater since their religion allowed them multiple wives, Balkan countries needed time to find their weak spots and in all that stands Serbia weakend by lost territories and new rulers. The Ottomans were the far more greater force than Bosnia, Bulgaria and Byzantium Empire.
      P.S. Hope I answered your question. Have a nice day. :)

    • @stefanjoksa
      @stefanjoksa ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@kainwittrig2180 We're still recouping from the illegal nato bombing in 1999 and yugoslav civil war. Our economy is on the rise, but we have a post socialist leader, pretty much a dictator but one who doesn't exactly execute or imprison his political enemies, rather silences them through media control and propaganda. The foreign politic is to sit on as many chairs a possible at the same time. We're good with Russia and China, yet a good portion of our commerce comes from the west and it's not unusual for us to receive financial aid from the west, especially the US, ironically.
      When it comes to the culture, it's pretty much a melting pot of worlds culture but without extremism. You can see both pro Russian rallies and rallies against the war condemning Russia. You can see gay parade and liturgies held by the Orthodox church against gay parade. It's one of the countries where freedom is the highest priority and you do actually have freedom compared to the rest of the world, especially compared to the west in the recent times with the rise of extremist far left culture in that part of the world. It's one of the best places to come and visit or to live in, especially if you have knowledge in IT and/or you're a digital nomad. The prices are lower than in the west, far lower than in US and Canada, and there are many new channels on youtube, american and canadian, that talk about how and why they moved to Serbia and their experiences.
      Hope this answers at least a tiny bit about the current political state of the country. :)

    The reason for your claims on half of Byzantium is a historical simplification. Basically, in the Empire at that time there were 2 Johns, Emperor John V Palaiologos and a powerful noble John Kantakouzenos, from now on referred as emperor John and noble John. Noble John declared himself emperor John VI and allied king Dušan to help him, promising that all the lands he occupied will be his to take. After some time Dušan had conquered all lands he could access that weren't noble John's personal domain. So he made a deal with emperor John to help him win the civil war, he would help the emperor win his war and in return Dušan gets all the lands he occupies. Thus he got half of Greece. Dušan actually wanted to take Thessaloniki and Constantinople but lacked the fleet to do so. But that didn't stop him declaring himself Emperor of Serbs and Romans.

    There's a weird bug involving titles De Jure in the Byzantine empire. You aren't De Jure able to inherit that title in Byzantine law (probably the disfigurement), which is supposed to also prevent a Byzantine vassal from declaring an internal war they historically wouldn't have been able to legally own.
    However, it also prevents you from externally declaring on the Byzantines for those titles, which makes no sense at all.

    • @rimanpele
      @rimanpele 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It does, its from the culture (byzantine traditions).
      Everyone that has this tradition cant have other characters from any culture with this trait conquering/inheriting their titles.
      When you declare a war you have a casus belli ("reason to war"). If your own culture invalidates your casus belli then it does make sense.

    You get attrition if you go through a county that is completely surrounded by enemy counties even if it’s sorrunded on one side by the sea and the rest are enemy you won’t take attrition

    Still surprised that vanilla CK3 doesn't have all these startdates from CK2. And it's not like the 2 remaining startdates are more polished out, the game straight up has less content, what a shame.

      It was insane upkeep, and apparently the number of people who didn't play either the earliest 700s start date, 867 and 1066 was impossibly insignificant.
      However, I am curious on what aspects of the current map that you want "polished"?

    You could do the Unite the South Slavs decision if you destroy the empire title.

      Can't destroy primary titles, can't downgrade your rank by destroying titles, and finally his primary title would need to be one of the Serbia/Bosnia/etc. Kingdom titles for it to be available.

    You're struggling with levies not regenerating because your domain is terrible. You aren't really investing in it, so it's incredible bad. So instead you're leaning on vassal levies, which are smaller and much slower to regenerate.
